Wireless connecting second tv to Sky box, how? 4th Mar 18 at 2:45 PM
Can anyone advise me what gadget/gizmo do I need to connect a second tv to my Sky Box wirelessly? Cheapest possible.

I have a old-style big box tv with a Sky box (used for Freesat) in one room (which is cold!) and want to watch tv on my old-style combi tv/video player in another room (which is warm!). I know I can do this with a cable but the run is awkward and means the door won't shut. What's the best way of doing this wirelessly? The cable from the dish comes in through the cold room's window frame. I have 2ft thick stone walls, including internal ones, but could position second tv at a thinner part if necessary, maybe nearer the door. May not be necessary however, as wifi seems to get through ok.

There's only one of me and I won't want to watch both tvs at once, I also don't mind popping to the other room to change channel but would love to sit through a film, or Sunday night's MASH marathon, in a warm room.

    Thanks for any advice.

Note that the Tv in the other room will require an AV input socket - scart, phono sockets or 3.5mm 4 pole plug which accepts composite video. Note also that operational success of these is highly dependant on the construction of your house - they will not work with thick stone walls or modern aluminium foil backed plasterboard walls.

Otherwise, you won't be able connect anything wirelessly with your current set up. You could "upgrade" your Sky subscription to SkyQ to achieve a wireless connection but I think you'd also need to replace your current TVs and VCR (!!)

Alternatively, a Sky Magic Eye could be a cheaper solution if you can surmount the need to connect wirelessly.

Thank you very much indeed, a most comprehensive response - even if I get the slight feeling you might be mocking my vcr set up. It's fab I'll have you know! If I only had a remote for it I'd feel very modern, but nowt wrong with getting off my behind to adjust the set!

I don't think I'd really need the magic eye as I could just extend the cable from cold room window into the warm room and put the sky box in there. Or alternatively run cable from back of sky box to warm room tv. But I'd rather not do that.

But this wireless sender thingie sounds like it might do the trick, will need to check the tvs have the right connectors, both have scarts though - or maybe adaptors, to make this work. I can move the tv/vcr so it only has a closed wooden door between it and the sky box so could work.

Thanks again, bit of googling coming up!

To operate the sky box it needs to be able to "repeat" the sky remote between the 2 rooms , look for one that mentions it transmit remote's

Will investigate wireless connectors a bit further, yes I know financially it's wrong but probably best overall.

    Thanks all
