    Weekly Flylady Thread 12th February 2018 11th Feb 18 at 8:55 PM
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Valli for last week's thread

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please donít stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Morning all, yesterday didn;t go to plan mum home from hospital but has completely lost the plot, its like she is delirious, acting child like, screaming out for help but not remembering, screaming her finger was trapped in the iron (she was sitting on the sofa), singing songs at the top of her voice, apparently this could be her sodium levels dipping again, so I wouldnt be surprised if she is back in hospital later today, very comical but extremely worrying

Got a very busy day today DS to soccer camp, mum-sitting 9-11, babysitting niece 11-2, pick DS and his friend up from soccer camp at 3 and then friend coming back for playdate

hope those with babies are enjoying half term and wish all a very productive happy day xxx

    good morning

Is everyone still in bed? I don't blame you - it looks Baltic out there this morning!

Slinky challenge - put a pound on this week Not surprised as I ate too much bread .... and a pizza..... and fish'n'chips And I enjoyed every mouth full - but these things need to be an occasional thing, not twice weekly. That was the way the week went - sparkly line being drawn, step over and start another week To lose 56 lbs in 2018 I need to lose 14 lbs every three months - so I'm still on target to lose that first stone by Easter. PMA

Flying: bed is made and I'm about to put out the rubbish and recycling, and feed the birds. That last 5% of Mr T's delivery can be put away before I trolley off to work - half term here so less traffic on the road = can leave a tad later

Have a good day every one.

Oh - and I'm giving up facebook for Lent. I decided this morning.

And Ionafan, that malarky with the keyboard and the bookcases and and and is the story of my life. I've recently realised once and for all it's because I have too much stuff. That helped with the manic decluttering when I got rid of 10 boxes of stuff. I need to do that every month to create space in this house.

When OH spots a space I've created he has a tendency to think he can put stuff on or in it, but he's recently discovered to his cost that the empty space is MINE FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER.

Dusting will be happening here today.

Slinky challenge: I've put 1/2 lb on and am 1/2 lb under target range, so had to pay today I can be fairly sure that I shall put on again next week, but at least that will put me back in target range for my next weigh-in on 27th, so that I stop paying again

My supervisor is coming to see me at 12.00 so I have
    - S&S'd kitchen
    - S&S'd ensuite including floor
    - hoovered hard floors downstairs
    - steam mopped kitchen floor

I have been up since 4.00 worrying about this essay, which is hardly writing itself, so suspect that I will be good for nothing in tonight's lectures

Well, I have spectacularly lost my cool and raised my voice at OHs mother.. gossipping about my private business.. I am utterly livid.. I know I have PMT today and that makes me ultra sensitive and I have been trying but i just lost it.. I despise gossip!! It is nasty, usually untrue or unfounded and causes so much trouble and unhappiness...

I haven't got enough money in my account to get a train home or I would be there by now.. I am NOT going out for dinner.. and his mother said she isn't going too so I shall go sit either outside in the car or just go to the pub around the corner and nurse a pint of lemonade for 3 hours.. I can do that well enough.. unless there are any Fly minions round here who need a somewhat irritable visitor this evening?.. I can get OH to pick me up on the way back.

THIS is precisely why I don't tell anyone aything.. people are not nice, disrespectful and it pee's me off...

Added to the situation.. OH found a wrapped from a single use syringe in the loft and the lid from a JD bottle.. we are rather hoping it belonged to the guy they had stay over christmas using steroids because the alternative makes for a sad future.

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with DD1.I broke her dog by talking to him over the phone... I've not seen him for 3 months so as soon as he heard my voice he was rolling on his back grunting to himself. I inspired pancakes with banana and ice cream for lunch lol..

I just want to go home.. and cancel life.

    Congratulations, kazwookie x

So far I have written about 500 words of a 2,500 word essay. That means an awful lot more has to be done tomorrow!
But I have also spent an hour talking to my supervisor, cooked lunch (including pancakes) and taken Rosie for an hour's walk. I am going in to college an hour later than usual, in time for tea and lectures. I had reserved two more books, which I have just discovered are ready for collection: now I have to decide which two to take back before I can take the reservations out. Decision, decisions...

Pathetically little done today besides work. I did manage to change the bed and get dinner on the table. I think that's about it. I have a day off tomorrow, but DD wants to go shopping, so the day is already disappearing fast.

for goodness sakes.. I had to reset password to the one it already was for the second time.. old password is the same as the new one which is the same as the one I have had since registering here.. it's so stupid.. I LIKE my password.

    Home tomorrow..

Boog has biadetes appt at 5.. and his googly eye appt Thursday.. HV threatened to come at some point so I need to maybe cancel her interference.. actually.. I might need to speak to her now I've said that.. She sent the 20 month questionaire thingy for Twinkle and she is so late with everything.. why do they want to rush them to grow up? Why can they not just be babies longer? I don't need her to be 15, she is a baby.

Congratulations on the arrival of your grandchild Kaz. How exciting! Hope everything went well x

Pigpen - I hate gossip too. I found myself involved in it last week (accidentally and unexpectedly) and had to say I thought it was sad that people needed to discuss other people's private affairs. Several faces looked at me like I was an alien, but it stopped the whispers.

Day three of the holidays. I'm broke, tired and grumpy. DH is back to work today, thank goodness, and the boys have a softplay date with their cousins this afternoon, so I can get a cuppa and a catch up with their mum. DSS and GF are out for lunch as it's Valentine's day. I stuffed a card into hubby's lunch bag just before he left. Romantic? Nah.

Zero flying yesterday, so I'd better make an effort today

No progress here yesterday as long day at work, but did make bed, washing up all done or in DW, dirty washing made it to the laundry basket so no floordrobe. Kitchen still clear. Couple of errands done in town.
Full day at work again today but not a late finish so hope to pop into supermarket for a few bits on the way home and then put hoover around the lounge.
Not got much time at home this week so flying target is to keep on top of everything that is good. Next week I am home most of Monday and all of Friday at the moment plus the weekend and nothing planned so might get on.

    Don't forget to smile.
    xx
