This has been a massive hit in Northern Ireland and across the UK, I seem to be the only one who finds it contrived, badly acted and very cringeworthy.

What am I missing with this programme?

Chill people, I would be considered a grumpy old man these days but I loved it the acting could be a bit OTT in certain scenes but overall just enjoy it for what it is, 30 minutes of well written comedy
I am trying, honest very trying according to my dear OH

I agree with the over acting but have to say I've enjoyed it.
There are some really funny moments which CANNOT be said for Mrs Brown or The Hole in the Wall Gang. Now those are 2 shows which really are embarrassing and cringe worthy!
The one with the house party was very funny as was the one with the "wee RA man" in the boot.

I'm not 100% convinced by it, but I'd watch it over Mrs Brown's Boys any day.

I love Derry Girls - maybe it's the 90s nostalgia I dunno, but I can look past the cringey acting. Plus, it gets a bit better as it goes along and it doesn't focus on the main girl as much and focuses more on the other characters. Tommy Tiernan is great and I love the nun at the school - and the girl with brown hair is fantastic! So funny.

The season finale was a real sucker punch. I love how they've dealt with the troubles being a backdrop of their lives but not the main plot of the show. I think it's quite an accurate way of showing things. The girls are just trying to have normal lives and go through normal teenage stuff. The last episode was haunting with the juxtaposition of the kids being kids but then the horrific news breaking.

    I can't wait for season 2!

Best episode was number 5 - the "punt purse" etc.

Like a lot of programmes on TV now, far too much unnecessary bad language for my liking. Very uncouth

Well summarised from a review on IMDB - "London Irish centres on the daily drinking habits of four Northern Irish housemates living in London, inspired by the writer's own experiences. Although aspects of the four characters' daily lives enter in to the show every now and again (i.e. going to work), the show is driven almost exclusively by the group's pre-drinking shenanigans and post-drinking headaches. The comedy relies predominantly on the characters playing off each other's wildly different personalities. For instance, Conor's mind-bending lunacy acts as the perfect foil to his sister's, Bronagh's, inexhaustible aggression. Alternatively, Niamh's attitudes towards sex and men, which would be viewed as inexcusably sinister had they been expressed by a male character, are rendered comically creepy by the fact that they are delivered by an extremely petite, sweet-looking girl. While the actor playing Packy seems to have been cast mainly as eye-candy, he is also the most relatable of the characters, being the one who most often attempts to explain Conor or Niamh's idiocy to them. Although the show plays on Irish and English stereotypes quite considerably, the show parodies a drinking culture that most UK viewers will be familiar with. Foul-language and politically incorrect statements are commonplace, so any viewers anticipating the restrained, frustrated, socially awkward comedy of Father Ted (broadly implied by casting Ardal O'Hanlon) will be in for a shock. Altogether the show has many laugh-out-loud-moments and is just generally good fun."
