    Leaving Virgin

Leaving Virgin 8th Feb 18 at 4:41 PM
My contract is up, I'd like some advice on next move please.
I only make 2-3 local calls per week, hardly ever use internet but need some data to send photos, texting perhaps 2-3 times daily.
I really am in the dark, do I ask Virgin for my PAC number? as I've read on here, do I need Sim only, which provider?
    Any advice appreciated, thank you.

Others can advise on a suitable cheap sim only or PAYG deal. Persoanlly, I'd do my own legwork on that.

As for the basic premise, your contract isn't "up" unless and until you either give 30 days' notice or request the PAC and move your number to a different network.

yes SIM only would be a good move.

    ~5/month.

    Investigate plusnet and virgin.

Both use the EE network and will work if your phone is locked to virgin

It's not always the case the other way round.

A cheap sim only deal or O2 PAYG / 3 PAYG would work out too.

I doubt you need more than a PAYG like three's 3-2-1 or O2's equivalent; not sure you'd be spending more than 5 per month at that rate.

1pmobile would need 10 every 4 months and you could renew it more frequently as needed.

Vectone's 5 sim-only bundle would be more than you need.

I would rather spend 5 else where.

I did like Vectone's 1 month deal years ago

For the OPs needs, the 5 deal is way OTT. It's like the joke where where the genie grants the wisher a bottle of beer, but it's infinite so it never runs out and he foolishly asks for two more of them.
Of course if s/he wants a 2-country SIM etc. they're back in the game.

It's difficult to see a sweet spot, but it might just be an ultra-cheap PAYG like 1pmobile with a 30 pa commitment, plus the option to bring forward the additional credit by a few days/weeks.

    The main points are:

    1) Anywhere you move will be cheaper than paying 30 a month, so hopefully there are not too many wrong options!

    2) Remember the phone is locked to virgin, so you should get it unlocked first, and not point thinking of O2 or 3 before you do. (plus you don't know if the signal s good where you are for these providers)

    3) Personally I do like plusnet's sim only as they are one of the few to only have a 30 day contract these days, and it's good to get their deal while you can. There was a small risk of loosing your number when they first started

    4) Vectone customer service is far from great. So would only consider the 1/month option from them, or PAYG
