    O/S Daily Thursday 8th February 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x JackieO hope you have a lovely day being spoilt yesterday x

Still dark, very cold and very frosty.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he has college today.

Dinner last night was a delicious chicken in country sauce, with HM egg and veg fried rice, clean plates all round. Not that sure what we'll be having tonight but will sort that later. First thing this morning I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society then onto mum and dad's to sit with mum so dad can go and do some jobs in town and do some food shopping. There's a couple of people coming to mum's today, 1 x morning and 1 x later in the day to assess her needs/therapy etc, so I'll be making sure they get a true idea of how she is and not let dad tell them it's alright and he can manage, (in the nicest way of course).

Yesterday work was pretty manic again, so was shattered when I got home last night, pleased to be on days' off now until Monday.

Had text from boiler people yesterday to ask if they could come on Saturday not Friday - it doesn't really make any difference to me but just means on Friday I can make sure all the washing, drying and ironing is done up to date and I can do my normal Friday jobs on Friday.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It still feels bitterly cold but forecast to reach the dizzy heights of 5 deg later! Wow!

Just having a peaceful coffee before wakening the DGDs then let the fun begin! Starting with "cafe" breakfast where they all want different! By 8.15 when they are getting bundled in the car I am a frazzled wreck. They are back again tonight after swimming & diving and of course it's the usual Pasta Bolognese Bake. I could make it in my sleep but they never tire of it and woe betide me if I made something else!

I got my hair cut yesterday at last and feel so much better for it. Plus it's easier to manage. The snow episode wasn't mentioned by either of us although I was really annoyed with her at the time as some of you may remember!

The Thursday shop to do later. Just Aldi I think as determined to eat from the freezers and keep the shopping bills down. Just F & V and dairy stuff needed I think.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all who need them. Take care all xx ps welcome to the new addition to the family DUMPLING! JACKIE glad you had a lovely birthday.

    Morning everyone

Another frosty icy start to the day here, the temperature is currently -1, so cold enough for me, but not as bad as some of you are experiencing.

It's good that you are pleased with your hair cut TA. It was worth going back to her to get your hair done by someone you know does it how you want it. Although not turning up that day was not acceptable.

Enjoy the new family member dumpling, it sounds really exciting, Iím sure that Bobby will quickly settle in with you all.

Nelski itís good that you had a better day with your mum and have found a way of dealing with her. Re the sleeping, I donít really function on such little sleep. Iím walking around like a zombie most of the time.

I did manage to get out for a while yesterday, and have a wander around the park. It warmed up enough for the paths to become safe by mid-morning. Iím glad I went out yesterday because it is forecast to be really cold all day today.

Today I will make some sausage rolls and quiches ready for a tea that I have promised to make for my brotherís birthday tea next week. The more I can get done and in the freezer ahead of time the better.

Stay warm everyone and have a good day whatever you are doing.

Very sharp frost here this morning it almost looks like snow but no such luck !

Off to work for me but I can see the weekend peeping around the corner.

Something and chips for dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this I think there are some fishcakes in there.

Need to put a wash on tonight and will have a sweep through and general tidy.

Dumpling I meant to say I am so excited for your new arrival have fun and enjoy him.

Right better get on have good days all xx

Morning, and thanks Nmlc. Dry and cold here, but it's not as cold as yesterday, it was bitter.

NMlc, it's good that you'll be able to talk to the professionals coming to your Mum's - you'll be able to give them a clearer picture, your Dad is in the middle of the situation and won't see it as clearly.

TA, glad you managed a haircut, it's a nice feeling.

Yesterday seemed to slip away from me, I didn't get any sewing done. I went to the shops because I'd bought a dressing gown in M and Co's sale but when I tried it on at home it was a strange shape - tight round the upper body, and a bit too voluminous in the lower body. Mind ,I know I'm not exactly shaped like Miss World but even so....anyway I changed for a nice top,
Spoke to Ds in Oz last night, it was Thursday morning there of course. Their temperatures are in the 30's at the moment, I just can't imagine it.

Today it's the usual stuff, and might pop down to Dd's.

Take care folks, and keep warm

Morning all and Blimey it is a cold morning! It is getting light now. Overcast and gloomy, I am just waiting for the spring now. I do have bulbs outside that are coming up nicely and some indoors on the kitchen windowsill so I look at those each day and think springy thoughts.

I'm glad you had such a great day JackieO, you are truly blessed with your loving family.

Dumpling, lucky you to have another little dog joining your family, I hope Becky has a better day today.

Today I'm working, paperwork this morning (at hone) and then I need to travel to see someone in a nearby town. We have a piece of work to do together and then that's the end of my working week. Yesterday's work went well, good outcomes for children, which is what I aim for.

I have slept quite well but somehow seem permanently tired. I hope it is just this winteriness which seems oddly neverending.

My DS is off to the States tomorrow to spend three weeks with his lady, he spent a lot of yesterday afternoon packing stuff with his dad's help. He's not a natural packer, the look on DH's face was er interesting. I'm not quite sure why our bed was the natural place for doing packing but hey ho.

I think I'll have some toast now, then get on with the day.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

    Good morning folks.

After the heavy frost yesterday today is much milder.

Last night I managed to clear the decks of my non-work related paperwork which comes in every month. Think I was motivated by sitting next to the stove, even went to bed so much later than Iíve been used to this winter.

My plans for today are simple - drive down to Glasgow.

I hope everyone has a really happy Thursday.

    Morning all.

Trust me to be different. Weather wise its as cold here as it was yesterday.. Sky is just dull and overcast. Yesterday was sunny and bright.

Youngest didnt come home last night....well he came home for his tea and cleared off again. I think a woman was involved cause he didnt come back. The house was so quiet without him. Hes pretty quiet anyway but I hear him tip tapping away at the keyboard.

Not sure what im doing today but I might start on a few windows. We will see.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc, hope that there is positive news from the visits to your parents today.

Cold and bright here too, we are off out to Bury St Edmunds this morning to take a few bits to the dump and then on to the SM for a weekly shop, the fridge is reassuringly empty so the meal planning is obviously on target.
The meal out with pals was lovely if a tad expensive but it was my friend's choice and she is going through tough times coping with brain cancer. We sat at the table until nearly 4 so made the most of our time there anyway.

Glad you are happy with your hair TA they don't call it a woman's crowning glory for nothing, if your hair feels good so do you.

Have a good day folks x

Lets try again....... Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

    Bad night 3am again.......

Chiropodist coming this morning, I have having first dibs as I need to go to Aldi and Morrison.

OH managed to do a round walk instead of going so far and then turning back, he is getting stronger, just wish he would eat a bit more.

We saw C in our neighbours garden, she came round to us when she had finished and OH directed operations putting the manure on the deep beds, she also did a bit of weeding. The garden is starting to wake up from its winter sleep.

Its fine no frost we are forecast a high of 9c today........can we cope I ask myself!!

    Morning lovelies

Weather not really doing anything yet just greyish. don't think its as cold but haven't ventured out yet.

Heading up to the hospital this morning to attend an education session on the hip replacement. Could do without it as i remember all the rules and must dos from the last one but as its a different hospital then I guess they could do things a different way. Its a couple of hours so that will be a fiver for parking

Looking forward to lunch though off to a Miller and Carter with a friend for what will no doubt be a long lazy lunch and a good gossip

Not much else planned for the day and no food needed although I may grab a cheeky teacake at the wrvs which somehow always taste better than when I do them myself

Have a lovely day all xx

    Morning all

Grey here but not so cold today.

Up with the lark as DH is taking DD to get a new car seat for DGD as he is nearly 4. Mothercare are having a sale.

So I have stripped the bed and put a load of other washing in. DH will re make the bed later.

Don't know what's for tea, I may make a bean chilli. There is a portion of steak and mushroom pie left from yesterday for DH's lunch.

Holly H glad you could get out for a nice walk yesterday. JackieO sounds like you had a great birthday,

Well hugs and spoons all round. Have a nice day and keep warm. I can hear a mug of coffee calling.

    Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

It's cold here, the cut was frozen when I left the boat at 8 this morning, I sorted out the stove, topped it up and cleared the kitchen before I left.
I'm at DD2's and have been since 9, she went for an interview earlier in the week, got the job and is training today, tomorrow and all next week. So I am providing childcare for dgd3 nd dgd10 who is off sick and has been all week.
She is finally on the mend as she ate for the first time in a week last night.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning, dry and fairly bright here so far, if there was frost it had cleared early.

Got to get my (casual) glad rags on we are off to an early birthday buffet lunch at a friend's house to anticipate his birthday soon, will be 94 and is still fit and cycling! A very mixed, but fun and interesting collection of people normally, so looking forward to it. I am packing some GF oatcakes as it is help yourself to fillings and make your own rolls for lunch.

Thank you for the new thread nmlc, hope that you have productive meetings regarding your mum. Hugs and spoons to all.

    Hello all
Sorry I didn't post yesterday but I didn't feel up to it . ( haven't even had the energy to get dressed for 3 days ! ). This cough took a hold and wouldn't let go. Mr Fix It said I was as white as a Geisha girl, I felt like I was on my way out ! Anyway this morning my dry cough has broken, so I should be on the mend now. However I still have a chesty cough and very little voice. DGD was coming for a sleepover tomorrow but I will have to ask DD to change to the following week if possible. I don't like disappointing DGD but I would be unable to play without coughing and that's not good.
I have put the WM on just to wash my sweaty Pjs etc and later I will supervise Mr Fix It, from the distance of the sofa, who has decided to make a beef casserole for tea.
I have been reading along but the only bit of information that I can recall is that Dumpling is having a Westie. That's because I had one for passing my 11+, he was called Snowy.
Hope everyone has a good Thursday, stay safe and warm. Hugs

    Hi everyone

Nannywindow hope you feel better soon.
It's not as cold here and its raining now.DGS had a good sleep last night and woke just after 7.He was really excited because his Nursery class were doing an assembly this morning for their grown ups so no problem getting him dressed today.
Luckily DS was able to leave the job they are on leaving DH to hold the fort. The theme was nursery rhymes & we could look at their 'learning journals' after too.The staff had organised coffee and cakes so it was a lovely social occasion. His Mummy (DS ex ) and other Grandad were there too and DGS wanted Mummy & Daddy to sit together .Luckily we all get on with each other (,they just weren't very good at living together ) so DGS was thrilled to see us all sat there He's back here to stay overnight tomorrow..

I keep trying to tidy the house as our friends are coming up on Sat night.Currently sweeping up all the beads and buttons the DGC used in their craft session last night,oh and I must clean the windows as they seem rather gluey this morning Not quite sure how that got there.!
I'm making chunky beef soup for tea, nice and warming in this weather.
Wrap up and take care x

LW can't Mr LW sleep on the sofa if he's causing your loss of sleep? xx

So I am 100% certain that if he slept on the sofa, he'd be on the floor before the night was out. I am used to sleeping on about 6 inches of bed, right at the edge, so it is no problem for me to use the sofa.

Anyways, I didn't do it last night - he seemed a tad out of sorts, so I didn't want to do something I knew would upset him. But as a consequence of course, I got less than 2 hours sleep again. So tonight, I think I may well have to resort to the sofa, as I really think I am seriously sleep-deprived now.

But would he hurt himself if he fell out of sofa? And I worry about whether a sofa is suitable for you sleep on, regardless of whether you are used to being in a small bit of bed xx
