Scottish Friendly - Can only pay by cheque! 6th Feb 18 at 4:51 PM
I just called to make a payment to my S&S ISA, as I've been told previously by Scottish Friendly I could do.

The person I spoke to said that was impossible, I would have to post them a cheque. I queried this, saying I had been previously told I could do this and it was one of the reasons I chose them. She then admitted I should be able to, but their system was down. Further questions eventually revealed that this had been the case for many days and they had no idea when it would be fixed, it could be weeks or even months.

I said I wasn't really happy to send a cheque as, given their relaxed attitude to timing, it could take weeks before they actually made the payment. She said it would not take weeks, they aimed to do it within 5 working days. I pointed out that this was a week, plus the time in posting etc, so more like weeks. Got absolutely nowhere.

Am I alone in thinking that a major financial provider should be able to receive payments by means other than the antiquated cheque in the post? The only other option given was postal orders!

They appear to offer an on line system but presumably it is down?
