    Quaker Oats comp!

Quaker Oats comp! 2nd Feb 18 at 1:38 PM
Anyone here entered it? You buy the Oats tart it up and post your picture and you could win £10,000.

For me i like Oats but would not add the stuff in the winning pictures. It seems they have gone for professional photographers with the latest winner (taken from a post) "Professional in digital marketing and photography. Lots of her stuff is paid that's been commissioned by large food brands"

It seems this competition is not for every day folk like myself that might have one or 2 toppings, But for people that spend £1.50 on oats and £10 on topping and 2 hours making there breakfast!

For me its about the taste of the oats not the amount of stuff you can add to it to take the taste away!

Seems to be going for the best dressed photos so seems fixed to me.
May Wins: £25 cash, Nordgreen watch, £20 L2S,
The Ice King on DVD, Bose headphones.

Don't bedgrudge the winners as any fair entry is a deserving winner imo. Do think Quaker have run it poorly though. The TV ads make it look like anyone with a bowl of porridge and a phone or camera could win. Which certainly doesn't seem to be the case. A lot of people could end up disillusioned with the brand rather than being more positively brand aware.
Also, if Quaker use all the Pro quality images they will just look like yet another professional ad, which personally I find my brain pretty much filters out. I saw an entry on facebook where someone had put a freddy the frog in a bowl of porridge, and hey their kid loved it. Hardly food blogger quality, but guess what it's the one stuck in the brain of most people who saw it. And it's the stuff I see that I think, yeah I could do that, quite easily that inspires me. I'm not going to go out and buy fresh figs and a honeycomb for my brekky in all honesty...

It's funny because I remember the frog photo too and thinking
"Oh that will be lovely when the chocolate melts into the porridge kids will love that"

Just proving it is the simple ones that stick in your mind.

I couldn't even tell you what was in the ones that have won so far

While Quaker Oats may have chosen to overlook ********!!!8217;s controversial win, it has also decided to extend the competition by another week to give another participant the chance to bag an additional £10,000 prize.

Well it was a publicity campaign and they are getting plenty of coverage. Perhaps they are taking the view that any publicity is a good thing and the exposure well worth the extra £10k - which also makes them look like they are doing the right thing!

    Quaker have put on their facebook page that the competition is closed and the Independant article now reads;

"While Quaker Oats may have chosen to overlook O'Connell's controversial win, the firm has decided to select another winner from the entries submitted to that week's competition when she submitted her entry.
"We've received thousands of entries to our promotion, and have been thrilled to give away more than £50,000 to individuals and families across the UK," a Quaker Oats spokesperson told The Independent.
"The competition was open to everyone. However, in light of some of the feedback we've had, we've decided to choose an additional £10,000 winner."

No mention of extending the competition for a further week. Choosing another winner from the O'Connell week now.

Looks like the latest winner did the same sort of thing as the last one - the photo has been entered into competition by a different person with the same surname (family member?), who happens to be a food blogger @jenjen_recipes, now she's deleted it, but google remembers https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Quinoa%20Figgy%20Porridge&client=firefox-b&dcr=0&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi0-_e_5-7ZAhWkLsAKHQYwAs4Q_AUICygC&biw=1138&bih=545#imgrc= Mg2skf8E7u-OdM:

very badly run competition in my opinion, in no way does it reflect the media promotion. You would have thought the judges would have avoided figs given the controversy over the previous 'winner'.

More entries by @jenjen_recipes that have been deleted - wonder if they were also entered by Anna Potts...
