Munchinís debt free diary (the final one!!!) 1st Feb 18 at 4:00 PM
    Hi all,

After a few bumps along the road I finally became debt free on 29 January 2018 .

I paid off about £26,000 in my last 3 diaries over the course of 10 years. I started my first diary to clear 1 lot of debt and then once it was gone...I took on more debt . So the purpose of this new diary is to start afresh with no debt (just love saying that) and to put down my savings goals and plans for the year ahead. I will do an SOA in the next post.

A little bit about myself I live in N Ireland with my OH and my fur-baby (dog).

During the coming year I want to focus on my savings and the main things are Ė

    - An Emergency fund for a rainy day Ė hopefully £2000 by Dec and the second goal will be £10,000 and the final goal is £30,000.

    - Holiday 2018 Ė weíre planning on going away for a week in Sept so will aim for £600.

    - Finally a dream trip to the Maldives in 2019 Ė approx. £3000.

As I said in last diary in the months ahead my diary will continue to be about penny pinchingÖ.probably giving off to myself about frittering and mainly about getting my budgets funded.

Edit: Oct 2018 - debt created but a new bathroom to show for it)

    MM Day 11 & 12

    Morning

Well I thought I was over my bug yesterday but I guess I wasnt.

I went for a run but felt sluggish and then went to beauticians and hairdressers and when I got home I felt ill and was so poorly. Had to dig out the hot water bottle as I was so cold. I slept for a few hours and then went to bed about 8. I missed the party last night and suggested to OH we go and show our faces but he looked at me like Iíd lost the plot. Self care involved a very early night. Feel better today but not 100%.

    Todayís plans involve -
    • Prepping for interview
    • Small grocery shop
    • Lunch prep for tmw
    • Get clothes ready for tmw.

    MM Day 13

Thanks Lilith - havenít been properly ill in so long so I was probably due something. Feeling much better this morning so at least it will be gone by interview. Fingers crossed.

Interview prep was half hearted this weekend due to sickness but I had all my notes prepared so just need to get them into my head and I still have 2 days left (that made the butterflies flap in belly).

Money mindfulness is going really well but you should see my Amazon wish list. Nearly everything that goes into the wish list stays there and gets deleted later so that says it all reallly. I know Iím not even half way through the month but I have more money in my account at this time of month than normal.

I have my breakfast and lunch prepped today and I canít see me needing to spend any money. .

    MM Day 14

    Afternoon,

Wow another NSD today and yesterday.

I have my interview tomorrow and I might spend another hour tonight on my notes but I think I'm as well prepared as I could be. My friend threw a couple of questions at me this evening and my mind went blank but hopefully that will not happen tomorrow.

Tonight I'm out for an hour or so and then 1 hour of interview prep, quick shower and early night. I will probably toss and turn for a few hours but that is to be expected.

I've arranged to go out for lunch tomorrow with an ex colleague who has helped me prepare for the interview and that will be my way of thanking her.

Ok almost home time and I will be glad to have this interview over with. I said after my last promotion I will never go for an interview again and look at me now, I have an interview tomorrow and a test for a general promotion in Sept... Ok after this I will never do an interview again.....

    MM Day 15

    Morning ,

I woke up at 4.30 but my normal waking is 5.30, so that isnít too bad. Staggered out of bed at 5 and have brewed a large coffee , let pup out for his business and just sat down to go over notes again. My plan is to read them to about 7 and then take pup for a run. I should be back in house, showered by 9ish. I want to pop into chapel to light a candle (Mum always lights candles for us ..no matter our age when we had exams and results but now she has widened the field to all events). Itís just trying to make my morning go in until I leave for interview at 11.

After interview I will meet my friend for lunch & then after that super analyse everything I said/should have said/didnít say. Yes Iím like this at all interviews and scary events and Iím not going to change.

No plans this evening except to relax with a glass of wine.

Iím noticing more things Iím getting low on but trying not to buy this month (would not have given 2 thoughts to before being more money minded) are -
    • Double wear foundation
    • Moisturiser (getting really low)
Will add to list but keeping tabs on much I can stretch the shopping.

Hi Lilith - I would say it was awful & I embarrassed myself but to be honest that is how I feel after any interview . I donít know, there were 14 interviews and they donít finish until next Tuesday. I expect to hear on the grapevine Wed or Thurs next week. Hopefully by tomorrow I will not feel as bad .

I frittered a bit today - £1.39 on coffee as I didnít sleep much much last night.

Feel better now and changed sheets on my bed to have a good nights sleep.

    MM Day 17 & 18

Thanks Lilith - I just have to hope for the best & for them to understand I was just very nervous.

Money front - Bit spendy yesterday as I bought new foundation as the old bottle was a lot emptier than I thought. The good news was that they accepted my post office gift card so I got £20 off. I wear Estee Lauder doublewear which is a bit expensive but is the best for me. It will be spendy tonight. Iím going out with friends and I wonít be drinking much but we have a taxi booked as well. I know it will be a great night but as usual I feel I donít have anything nice to wear. I will just have to have a good root into my wardrobe.

    Plans today
    • Find something to wear
    • Run
    • Take mums car to garage for minor query
    • Iron
    • Tidy up

    Afternoon,

I had a lovely night with my friends and spent £34 which wasnít bad for taxi & a nightclub. Only downside is that knee is playing up this morning after dancing last night.

Iíve been to mass to get all the coach details for our trip to see the pope next weekend.

Not much to say today - tired but happy from last night.

Seen my first Xmas gifts yesterday .

    MM Day 20

Today has been an NSD . I'm heading to my volunteer thing tonight and have 3 months of travel to claim so I should get £40 back.

We got tickets for the pope (free) which I printed this morning. I was a bit suspicious as they were practically on the stage. A new email came out this pm to say Sorry and our correct tickets are attached and we are at the back. I think a lot of ones have been issued the wrong tickets and if they don't pick up the 2nd email there is going to be a lot of confusion.

Final interview for the post I want will be tomorrow. Officially I should not hear anything until maybe Thurs at the earliest but I'm pretty sure the grapevine will be in gear tomorrow afternoon and if the grapevine doesn't let me know then I think I don't have the job. Yes I'm overthinking it but it would be such a relief to be back where I enjoyed and very little travel.

Ok time to pack up and head home while avoiding those pesky shops.

    MM Day 21

Oh dear MSE halo slipped today. I am waiting for word about this job and ok I may not hear today but nerves are shot worrying. I popped out at lunchtime to Boots and bought a lipstick and lip pencil. Did I need either of them...nope..but £18 spent on No7 and I got a free palette. I then spent £3 on stew as I couldn't face food this morning. So £21 frittered because I'm nervous...

Not beating myself up as I got a letter in post from the investment people I'm with and they have added an extra £52 to money I got in December which appeared in my bank today .

Still no word............ I might even have to get on with the day job soon..

    MM Day 22

    Morning

So another day of waiting...... I've had lots of texts and emails from my old work checking if I've heard anything about the job but nothing yet. I expect to hear today... .

I have lunch prepped and packed so hopefully I'm back on the money mindful bandwagon today. I was doing a 50/30/20 check on my finances where 50% of my wages should go on needs, 30% wants and 20% savings. I actually have 50% of my wages going on savings and part of that is debt repayment. I was very happy with that. I think my main issue is that I can't seem to get my emergency pot up to a nice level without raiding it. To be fair I've raided it recently for necessities eg car turbo and some sort of valve dying. I'm happy with my savings plan and once I have the credit card paid off then that money will go towards my emergency fund.

Last night was yoga night and it was so good but I was incredibly hot and bothered by the end. I had to have a shower when I got home and then straight to bed for a lovely long sleep.

    MM Day 23

Still waiting... I know today is only day 2 since the final interview so I wouldn't normally expect to hear anything.. I'm on leave tomorrow and then it's a bank holiday on Monday so at least my head will not be pickled waiting for an email from HR.

Not feeling 100% today.. I just feel bloated an horrible but maybe my head is just exhausted from worrying and it's affecting all of me.

Money front - I spent £5 today on pups pet licence. If the council didn't send reminders it wouldn't get done.

I'm going to do some of my volunteer thing tomorrow and pop round to see my brother. I'm looking forward to not having to get up super early but I will still wake up early. I will take pup for a walk, clean the house, do some ironing and dig out rucksack for our trip down to Dublin on Sunday.

I would like to join the clear my debt challenge but I will leave it until the 2019 thread because I bowed out at the beginning of the year as I was debt free and feel embarrassed heading back to it .

Is it too early to be excited that the Xmas countdown started on Instagram yesterday....124 days to go
