Here we go again for another month. As usual this initial post has been shamelessly copied from the many previous months. A big thank you to sstevo19 for starting us off last month.

Welcome all newbies and regulars to this very friendly and chatty thread where we give lots of lovely tips on how to use up your stash and lots of support and encouragement if you need them.

Keep up the pampering and keep down the spending: let!!!8217;s make the naughty step an empty and lonely place this month (rather than one so long that it can be seen from space)! Will this be the month when the "usual suspects" rein it in a bit? Let's see..... (but I doubt it!)

Remember - those products do nothing for you while they are stashed in drawers, boxes and cupboards!

We are eternally grateful to Katie Clampet who set up this fab challenge in January 2010. Here's her original challenge post:

"No buying any new toiletries, cosmetics, perfume etc... until I have used up ALL the ones I already have. I got a huge amount of (really nice) stuff for Christmas but I am going to resist the urge to browse Boots, Asda, Superdrug etc, and pop another tub of cream, face scrub, shampoo or conditioner into my basket. I reckon the stuff I have will last me until possibly June. I have decided that the money I save I will put into my special holiday account. Anyone else?"

Lots of us have taken part in the challenge over the past few months (and some of us even years!!) and are making great progress in reducing our stashes and unnecessary/excessive spending.

Regulars can ignore this, but a quick resume is always helpful for newbies:

Why not add the challenge to your signature as a reminder?

How about taking a bit of time to do a stock-take and see if there are any gaps in your stash that you might need to spend on this month? Some of us set a budget for the month for essential purchases or to help with withdrawal symptoms, others like to go cold-turkey!! Other ideas which some people find useful: Listing everything out so you can cross things off as used to increase the sense of achievement, and putting a sum of money in a pot each time you use up an item to save for something you really want, or simply to assist in making future essential purchases "cash neutral".

Remember the challenge is about making the most of your money, enjoying your products, finding which products really suit you best and are worth buying, giving yourself a well-deserved pampering and breaking the habit of buying for the sake of buying. In money-saving tradition, it should also be about making your products l-a-s-t as long as possible (although the temptation of using an unloved shower gel extravagantly to finish it off is sometimes too much to bear!).

Brand new products (or opened perfume) sell well on eBay.

Unsuitable products can be repurposed and used for other jobs (shower gel/shampoo as handwash etc).

Some items can be returned to certain stores for exchange (for essential items or gifts!!) without a receipt.

Unwanted items can be recycled as gifts or for gift hampers (saving the money you'd have spent on gifts).

Unsuitable items can be donated to charity or a local women's refuge as mentioned earlier

It helps to avoid the places where temptation lurks for you; be it QVC, Boots, Body Shop, email newsletter, the supermarket toiletries aisles, Grabbit board, online toiletries browsing, seductive department store beauty counter offers etc. Remember retailers are making offers and promotions all the time, so there will always be another deal! Honest!

Good luck all for February 2018 and indeed the coming months, and remember to keep your stash lists updated, keep popping in for inspiration and support and to report your UU's and IN's, especially any sales bargains - we want a nosy!

Welcome to all newbies - the more the merrier. Please introduce yourselves so we can welcome you properly! Do de-lurk if you are lurking, this is one of the friendliest threads on MSE.

Oh - and anyone thinking "OMG my stash is FAR bigger than all of theirs, I cant possibly join" - believe you me, we have been doing this challenge for well over a year some of us - you wont scare us, and I can almost guarantee that someone somewhere will have had more and survived.... we are very supportive (and protective - so don't be scared!!) oh - and did we mention that are nosy??!!

    Useful abbreviations and jargon!

    WBA - Will Buy Again
    UU - Use Ups
IN - Self explanatory - stuff you've gained into your stash - warning: lines may be given out for unnecessary purchases or you may be sent to the naughty step!
NBI - A non-bought item such as a present, gift with purchase or free sample
WNBA - Will Not Buy Again!
Glitch - when a shop/online store make a pricing mistake so you end up paying less or even get freebies!
PYN(M/T/W/Th/F/Sa/Su) DELETE AS APPROPRIATE! - Paint Your Nails Monday/Tuesday...... it allows everyone to try and finish those dastardly nail varnishes with group support! You can never be too groomed for this thread. Also see PY(T)N... - for toenails!
Splutterer - the stage where an item is nearing the end of it's life and spluttering - also the most annoying and seemingly never ending stage!
GWP - Gift With Purchase - a sample or mini sized item
HG - Holy Grail - this is the product you would go back for time and time again, it does the job brilliantly, and is either economical, or so fantastic price becomes no object!
NPI - Near Purchasing Incident (OMG we all have those!)
LHJ - Long Haul Job - for those products - love 'em or hate 'em - that never seem to end no matter how often you use them
PRCP - Pink Rose Candle Philosophy inspired by Erma Bombeck who said: 'If I had my life to live over again I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose that melted in storage'. Don't keep things 'for best' or 'for a special occasion'. That day never arrives. Give the best to yourself now and enjoy it. (Thanks to McCulloch29 for introducing this thought provoking sentiment to us)
GA - for an out that was given away to charity, as a present, or "just because" rather than binned or UU
TA - for an out that was thrown away due to going off (generally as it has been lurking at the back of a stash since time immemorial) or for any other reason such as a broken container or spillage
PP - Project Pan: a list of specific items targeted to be used up

If anyone can think of any more we can add to the list so newbies won't be intimidated by our jargon!

Here is a list of our lovely, fragrant ladies who have polished and pampered their way through their products and managed to get their toiletries stash under control. Ladies - congratulations, you are an inspiration to the rest of us, xx . Thanks also to InaPickle who suggested we start the Graduate list. To join the list of graduates let us know by posting that you are graduating in big colourful letters, that way the OP can easily spot you and add you to the list, or better still - PM the OP as the thread can move really quickly! You may also wish to add how many products you have used up during the challenge. Good luck ladies! xx

    In myself, of course.
Very little going on with UUs, as I seem to have large sizes of everything, at the moment.

GA. An Ultimate Blends Green Tea shampoo and conditioner, (1 bottle of each) sent to review a while back. Both were okay, but not wow, I'd used them twice, I think. My lovely cleaner has two adult daughters living at home who are really heavy on toiletries, so she got them.

I knew I would need to buy deodorant this year but as many of you know I am trying to go natural/low waste so I have been looking around for an alternative to the conventional ones. I have half a can of Sure and half a Mitchum roll on left but decided to buy a crystal stick with just a string and a tiny hessian bag as packaging. It was 4.99 and should last over a year, it came on Saturday and I have tried it out everyday since and it is really good, I walk, run and cycle a lot and sometimes have too many layers on, I still got a bit tacky as is always the case regardless of what I use but absolutely no odour at all not even after running. 645744650&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649.

This is the one I got.

I had another makeup declutter yesterday, I think about 17 nail polishes are going to the charity shop although DD did take a couple, I also gave her a nail strengthener and top coat. DD also took an Avon matte red lipstick and The Balm Nudetude palette.

From memory I got rid of the following:

Dior Black Eyeliner - very hard pencil type plus I prefer brown.
    BarryM Natural Palette
Urban Decay Smoked Palette - I love the look of this but find it hard to get the looks I want as the colours are so dark.
    Estee Lauder GWP quad
    Bourjois Silvery metallic cream shadow
    Lancome Juicy Tube mini
Lancome Gloss in Love in Peach colour
    No7 Glittery Black Eyeliner Pencil
    Clinique GWP Quad
Benefit Cha Cha Tint - had this way too long and don't love it although I have used quite a lot.

I'm sure there was more. I hate waste but the damage was done a long time ago and I have to make my peace with that and make better decisions going forward which I am really trying to do.

I'm back again. Will be writing my PP later. But my new target is now 46 items. I know it isn't alot but I really want a 1 out 1 In rule. This has now been the case for shampoo, toothpaste, cotton pads, handwash yay. Lots more to go but my bathroom stash baskets are looking alot emptier. Just got to work on getting my other half to use up most of his stuff that has just been sitting there for months lol.

    good luck everyone

PP List and Finish 5 by Spring
Thanks for the new thread And,

I have two items left over from my PP list in Jan which I'll roll over to Feb:-

    Botanics eye cream
    Jessica Phenomenon Oil mini

The eye cream is in a tube and I'm at the point where I am folding it concertina style to put pressure on the top and squeeze product out so it won't last much longer. I have used half the oil.

So the rest of my list:-

ABC Tea Tree skin wash 1000ml
Batiste Blush - the large can
Happy Days (or whatever it is called now) conditioner (cut open)
    A body oil from Haiti
Aussie Shampoo - decanted into pump bottle
Laura Geller Spackle - may need to cut this open soon as there is a lot of air in there and it's difficult to squeeze.
L'Occitane Immortelle oil make up remover
    Caudalie Serum
No 7 Beautiful Skin face wipes
Bath & Body Works Pumpkin hand wash

Of those items above I won't need to repurchase these as I have stash:-
    ABC Skinwah
    Body oil
    Hand wash
Eye cream (sample only and maybe use serum instead - see below).

I have only my L'occitane shampoo in stock but I use this once a week so need one as an alternative.

It may be an expensive month as I want to repurchase the L'Occitane oil make up remover. I really think I need an eye cream as my eyes are looking dry and crepey but not sure if I can get away with applying the Bare Minerals serum there. I won't repurchase the Botanics one as it's clearly not working. I have a sample of BM eye cream to try. My Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser may run out this month as I have about a quarter left of the 400ml bottle.

    5 by Spring:-

    Benefit Dallas blush - UU

Eyeshadow from Smashbox Full Exposure palette - S5.

Sephora by OPI JUST A Little Dangerous
    Laura Geller Balance N Brighten
    L'Occitane Amber and Santal fragrance
Laura Mercier Grey Pearl Caviar stick

Rest of the list are still ongoing although I have a drop of the fragrance left and the Balance N Brighten will be finished at the weekend. I have been frustrated by this pot. I was using sellotape to remove hard pan for ages and then when I saw pan I resorted to using scissors to scrape the layer off which resulted in the product getting darker. I have another in my stash but want to use up two other powders first.

Repainted my nails last night and am wearing OPI Sending you Holiday Hugs.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

(From Jan thread) Nice INs there sstevo19!

    Last UU for the month,

    Two more from my PP-
Elemis skin bliss capsules x 14 WMBA- these were nice to use especially the pink ones as they smelt of turkish delight! Perfect dosage size and ideal for travel. Have another pack of 14 in the stash.

I did purchase some necessary INs today that came with a free gift, I'll declare those when they arrive.

GA - Garnier Ultimate Blends Papaya Split Ends Conditioner. This is one of the 6 I got sent, five have now left home. I can't remember if I posted my opinion on this or not, but I wasn't that impressed. If I still had split ends, I don't think it would have worked that well. Those split-end days are long past. I treat my hair far more carefully now.
No female visitors to my house were allowed to leave without taking home a bottle of this. I can be incredibly persuasive.

    Two UUs tonight:

Avon Chocolate & Orange Bubble Bath 500ml WPNBA. This was nice but I won't buy it. I received it as a Christmas present. It got a bit sickly sweet towards the end.

Avon Foot Works Red Currant Exfoliating Scrub 75ml WPNBA. It was nice but I don't really go for foot scrubs. I didn't know how much of this was left until it finished when I was using it. It felt like it went on forever.

That's two items off my PP list

VALM - I'm almost finished with a tube of Botanics Eye Cream, not sure if it's the same as yours, I find it basic but OK. I only use it at night and in the morning when I apply my normal moisturiser after rubbing it in I just take my fingers across my eye area with what is left on them, so I don't actually apply moisturiser there but they get a tiny bit. Going forward I am going to just try doing that rather than buying another eye cream.

redglitters/Kadison - I've used quite a few pots of the Elemis Skin Bliss capsules in the past and have noticed no benefits from them whatsoever, I agree they smell nice but for me that was it and I expect more for the price. I like MOA Aphrodite Oil as a face oil, cheaper, very pleasant to use and no gimmicks.

And - I don't think the Ulitmate Blends shampoos are much to write home about from what I can gather from people on here and other reviews.

    I have my first uu

Philosophy Pure Grace Shower Gel 500ml - used the last bit as bubble bath last night, I love Philosophy shower gel in general but especially the Grace scents but they aren't cruelty free I don't think so WNBA unless that changes, however I do have more stashed.

L'occitane Ultra Rich Shea Body Lotion 250ml - I bought this as a cheaper alternative to the cream they do which is insanely priced, this smells gorgeous, goes on beautifully and leaves skin soft but as I mentioned last month the packaging is ridiculous so WNBA.
