Cutting Down Alcohol Thread (Part 15) 30th Jan 18 at 2:46 PM
    Hi Guys,

Sadly we lost our thread and I don't personally keep a private record of others AFDs so all data on the old thread is gone.

I've decided I'm going to bow out for a while as I'm actually pretty busy here in RL. And my life is about to get really hectic as I'm moving home....Also it will be hard to have challenges if data is getting lost. Sorry guys.

....It's been great...maybe I'll be back in a few months...

    Ta Ta For Now.

Welcome. Here we are again, time for a new thread, new starts and new challenges.

Let's take a trip down memory lane and remind ourselves of In Search Of Me's (ISOM) original post in Part 1:

    24th February 2008

    Quote:
In Search Of Me "There are a few of us who want to give up/cut down & I thought it would be good to widen the net to support each other along the way!
For me alch & feeling good for the time I'm drinking & then rubbish after go hand in hand. A bit like drinking & smoking & drinking & getting the munchies! Last year I gave up alch & fags for 10 months & then "slipped" towards Christmas until by Jan I was doing both with alarming regularity. I dread to think how much both cost me financially and I know physically that I've felt rubbish. My lungs hurt, have put on weight & literally none of my clothes fit so I will have to buy more - which means a dent in my budget that I can ill afford. My skin is also yukky & much nicer when I dont drink/smoke!
I had my last ciggies the night before last & last wine on Tues. I know I will feel 100% better when I crack it but also know it will be hard. One disadvantage here is that all too often DFW "parties" tend to involve alcohol so I'm also hoping that this can possibly be a safe haven for those of us who want, or need, to abstain, for now at least!
Anway - I hope that this can be a place of real support for people who are sturggling. I do wonder whether there is a link between debt & drinking as from the Jan thread it was obvious that so many struggle to give up! Plus I know for me that I feel much hapier and in control when I dont drink (or drink in moderation) - which of course begs the question "why do I do it?"! Anyway, I do but will now try not t ad hope some of you wil join in. Some days I know I wil fail, just as I do with my debt free journey and I am more than happy to be given a swift (but nice!) kicking when I do! Hugs all and dare I say... but this time with water!!

Here is a post from back on thread 1 or 2.

    Quote:
Springwatch Girl Well, week 5 of no alcohol and I see a different person in the mirror. My eyes no longer look dull and vacant, they actually have a little sparkle and my skin doesn't look like uncooked pastry anymore. I feel that I have won a battle but not yet the war. Hope everyone else is at the point they want to be, I never want to be that person I was, I have been tempted but I just think back to what I had become. The sun is shining at the moment and I feel good and want to continue to have the sun in my life"

    Good Luck Everyone!

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Hi Honeybear,

I think your post was more relevant strongly felt views than ranting, thank you for your post.

Fatrab so sorry to hear about your rib. Congratulations on losing 8.5lbs. I hope it wasnít due to them taking out a couple of poorly ribs!

I was seriously tempted tonight but stayed strong so 3/10 and 3 Homers for me please Shaggy. Sorry to hear about your little visitors. My Mum went round to borrow a cat while we were away on holiday when I was little. I think the neighbours of the holiday place thought she was mad! I hope the little critters leave your home peacefully soon.

I am not sure I can commit this weekend but hope it goes well. Iíll sneak another day or two in if I can.

Cathybird, thanks for offering to do the annual targets for next year, thatís very kind.

    11/25 for me please

Staying off the booze even when socialising - I do need to have an 'adult' alcohol free drink so usually go for plain tonic which I love, or AF beer.

Hope the ribs heal soon FatRab.

I've read similar things elsewhere. It would be very good news if it were true. My dad has diabetes and I didn't think this was possible.

Thanks for the well wishes - it was my entirely own stupidity though!

    4/5 School nights
    12/26 AFDs
    13/26 TAFDs

On the take-away front, I bought the SW "Fake-aways" recipe book and I have to say it's pretty decent. Good recipes but also inspires some creativity, I had a go at some home made onion bhaji's last night (syn free) and they're pretty good.

Mrs fatrab was told that she was borderline gestational diabetes when pregnant, straight away the hospital wanted to put her on pills. She asked about controlling it by diet and they didn't have a clue. 5 minutes chat with a dietician and went through her remaining term without any drugs. We're both overweight and have a fair bit to lose, so want to take action now before either of us do end up with a weight related health issue.
You can have results or excuses, but not both.

    Good morning everyone

10 for me please Shaggy and 4 for the SNC

Monthly total aside, I'm actually really pleased with my SNC this week. I'd gotten into the habit during the school hols of a glass of wine or two every night so its good to know it is just a habit and I can live without it!

An easier one for me last night so 4/10 and 4 Homers please Shaggy. I donít know why but day 3 often seems to be an obstacle for me.

Weekend plans are flexible but Iím planning another 4 days for the SNC next week Monday - Thursday.

I remember someone recently saying a while ago that they were feeling bad about 4 days AF. After only 2 for me last month Iím feeling pretty chuffed with myself about getting to 4. I am hoping to really build on last week now and get back into a much more sensible habit of not drinking as much.

To get my 150 days for 2018 is going to give me a maximum of 14 more drinking days this year. I would feel very impressed with myself if I can do that.

    Happy Friday everyone!

    Hi Guys

I've had a rubbish week. A friend brought around a bottle of wine Wednesday and I finished it off last night with a G & T. So I drank 4 nights in a row....

....But I'm still going to try for an AF weekend....

In other news, the builders are nearly gone.....just 3 things left to do....
