Mummytogirls - taking the scenic route 29th Jan 18 at 8:49 PM
    Evening Diary,

Well there seems to be so many diaries being deleted at the moment I have decided to start a new one to try and preserve my history on here.

My first diary can be found here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2311479&page=265

So I started in March 2010 and it hasn't always been an easy route but weve managed to pay off quite a bit of our debt and we stand at 6069.37 today. We probably could have paid the debt off my now but we are enjoying our life (taking the scenic route) with our two girls (now aged 11 and 9). They are growing up too fast before my eyes, wish time would slow down a bit.

So feel free to join my ramblings... usually about my MSE ways, what I eat and the all important pegging out in the summer .

Thanks WF, SA and Beanie. I can't remember which make it was but my mum complained to boots and they confirmed it was a dodgy batch . Usually I don't feel guilty about getting my hair done etc using my own spending money but we have had so much to extra to budget in recently its getting out of hand.

Just made 51p on 3mee... every little helps .

Ooo gotta love a snow day! I've had Thursday and Friday as snow days. My school is only 2.5 miles from me but it's like another world up there. The school is in a tiny village and the roads to it are awful. In the past I've parked up and walked a mile to get there.

Just think in the 5!s -how fab is that!

    Afternoon Diary,

Feeling in a better mood today , although I shouldn't really since I haven't managed to claw much back on todays shopping. DD2 and I went to Mr Al's this morning, we needed everything since the local shops had sold out of bread, milk etc. Our local Al's came good though, the manager had ordered extra and because we got there early there was lots on the shelves. It was getting busy as we left so not sure what the shelves will look like now mind!! We spent 60 but this included mothers day cards which I will take out of the mothers day budget. Also bought washing powder, dishwasher tablets, bin bags. All these things usually come from Mr T's but as much as I could have done without buying them today it will save me in the long run.

    Food:
Breakfast - porridge with nutella and banana
Lunch - toast, beans, scrambled egg, mushrooms and tomatoes - made by DH
Tea - Curry which is being made by DD1, rice and naan bread

So I've just cut up the chicken and marinated it for DD as she's making the hot or not curry which is on the recipe cards in Mr T's. I don't trust her to not poison us with the raw chicken which is why I've dealt with it

    Positives:
    * just made flapjacks using stores for next few days
    * made it out of the village for the first time since Tuesday

Think thats about all, hope all ok xx

Thanks guys the curry was delicious! Both DDs got involved and I've said they can cook 1 meal a month from now on
Thats one thing I will never stop them from doing is being involved with cooking as so many people claim they can't cook and I won't have that from one of mine!

Haven't done anything this afternoon until tea time. Made yorkshire puddings for tomorrows tea as DH will be cooking and they always seem to go wrong for him. Also sorted out mine and DD's lunch for tomorrow as were at a competition tomorrow.

    Happy Saturday xx

One of mine likes cooking, the other doesn't which is a shame. When I left home I could burn sausages and make braising steak which wasn't very helpful as a student. I didn't actually learn how to cook 'properly' until I was 30 and was on mat leave with DS1.

It doesn't have to be expensive either. What about tinned chick peas - hummus, falfafel, etc? DS1 makes pizza with tedious regularity which is cheap enough.

    Evening Diary,

Just a fleeting visit, back to work today after the snow last week and the parents have been on one!!! So draining. Anyway I've had quite a good day and been to the gym which is always positive!!

We are having trouble with trying to get DD1 motivated with her school work. We have confiscated her iPad and box controller tonight until she pulls her finger out!! Ive invited her into the living room to watch Corrie with me but she's got her hood up and isn't engaging . Any tips for motivating 11 year olds welcome.

    Food:
Breakfast - porridge with nutella and banana
Lunch - Nannas magic soup, wholemeal bread, actimel, quavers and apple
Tea - chicken milanese with roasted new potatoes, carrots and broccoli
Snacks - kitkat and slice of toast before the gym
Gym - spinning (hated it but enjoyed it in equal measures ha!)

    Positive:
    * NSD2 of 10

Think thats about all. Hope all ok xx

Great news about DD getting into her first choice of school . I think you've done the right thing re the homework, and if that doesn't work she'll get into trouble at school as EE says.

I'm glad you're not trapped in your village any more .

    Evening Diary,

Wow Wednesday already! Had training after work today so didn't get in until 5.15 which is late for me!! Have only just sat down after sorting tonight and tomorrow nights tea.

EE and HHOD, thank you for your replies. The current school doesnt give detentions for things like that but I agree she is going to have to learn the hard way. Like I've told her if she doesnt get up on time the bus isn't going to sit there waiting for her!! The problem we have we her is that she isn't even trying and she is totally capable. If we let her get away with it she would sit infront of a screen all evening.

    Food:
Breakfast - porridge with nutella and banana
Lunch - jacket potato with cheese, actimel and apple
Tea - hot beef baguette, chips and peas
    Snacks - biscuit and quavers

    Positives:
    * NSD3 of 10
    * DD seems in a better mood

    Hope all ok xx
