Unbelievably my very long running diary of 5 years seems to have been deleted Not happy about this to say the least

Not sure what to do about it. Need my diary to keep me sane and on track.

Had to swiftly come up with a new title, had been meaning to start a new diary but not this way.

Anyway, in brief for those who don't know, my life changed drastically 5 years ago when my OH got Lymphoma in his brain, nearly lost his life but miraculously survived, although he has permanent brain damage and is disabled. So we lost his wage and I'm now the sole breadwinner. At its highest debt was around £5k but paid off thankfully.

I try to keep as normal a life as I can.

Still really angry my old diary has gone

    It will WF

Got loads done today - sorted my holiday toiletries, cleaned the house, did finances, made soup for work lunches (old favourite spicy red lentil and carrot), finished reading my book, mashed some celeriac and carrot for my veggie cottage pie tomorrow. Would've rather been lazing in the sun though.

All monies come in starting tomorrow, need to be super careful with what's left of the pension money now, no willy-nilly spends. Still have vet bills and living room decoration to cover. DD offered to pick cat up from vets but I'll have to do it as I'll have to settle the bill. Going to book it in for after holiday when I'm free for the whole day just in case I have to collect her early.

Right - off to bed now as early start tomorrow - 5am boo

13 more work get ups to holiday - and counting.

    Morning folks. Happy August

A week since I last posted :eek

    Time is just flying by!

Well August is here and the new budget is already one week in. Finances are ok, still have enough left from the pension money to pay for the cat's dental work, decorate the living room and buy a new TV.

VSP £376.59 - this is my Christmas pot, usually higher at this point of the year, I fund it with oddments from wages, etc, the oddment amounts seem to have gone down this year.

Debt £2240 - only paid off £60 this month but once my two holidays are over I will be concentrating on paying this off before the 0% ends in March.

Emergency fund £4000 - plan to add to this after the debt has been paid off. In theory I should be easily able to save £500 a month.

We've had a pay rise at work - not a huge amount but anything is better than nothing. It will be back dated to June and in this month's pay

In very MSE news - I earned £80 in cashback during July from Quidco, going through them for dog insurance, holiday insurance and booked Lanzarote via them. I'll add this to my VSP when it becomes available.

Mr SA is still having problems with his incontinence - I caught him weeing in the flower bed yesterday morning - I was in the shower and he couldn't wait - unfortunately there was a trail of wee all the way from the bedroom to outside Yet again I had to douse everywhere in disinfectant and get the steam cleaner out. I keep getting a whiff of wee every so often and it's driving me mad. He's also had two falls but that was his new sandals not being tight enough more than anything. His knees are a right mess though.

Had a lovely day on Friday with work friends. Lots of gin, prosecco and laughs. I need days like this just to take me out of reality for a few hours Likewise with the holidays - people think I'm always on holiday, it's actually 3 weeks a year and they are worth every penny for my sanity, just to have a break from work, cleaning, cooking, looking after Mr SA, medical appointments, etc. As long as I can afford to keep taking us away I will.

Don't plan to do too much today: tidy up the garden a bit, do the meal plan, relax in the sunshine. Did the cleaning yesterday. We've been going to Lidl every day and picking up 2 bags of wood bark on Mr SA's scooter for the garden and it's starting to look a lot better. It's slow progress though as Mr SA can only do a tiny bit a day but he's getting there. Still looking for ideas for what to do with it though - it's such a huge garden, trying to make it low maintenance. Luckily at the moment the grass isn't growing but I'm expecting the lawn mower pester to start up again at some point.

One more full week to do at work - down to 9 work get ups now.

    Have a lovely Sunday everyone

I had a client who I met last year who hadnt really left her housemuch in 4 years due to incontinence, she had accidents all the time and was too embarassed to go out.

With a lot of persusaion from me (and a charity grant for proper incontinence pads) she saw her GP and finally told him the issue, referral to hospital to see specialist, few months later she saw consultant and was started on some medication which worked almost immediately, she cannot believe the difference.

She had issues with urgency, so she never got the feeling she needed to pee until it was about to come out so she stayed right by the loo all day - now she gets the feeling and there is not so much urgency, she said sometimes she can wait 5 mins to go

So what I'm trying to say is that it may be embarassing but sometimes just 1 tablet a day can help so much (I appreciate Mr SA has issues with the other as well but once he's at the GP hopefully he can talk about it)

Thanks for that EE. He's seen the incontinence nurse who gave him some pads which he threw away and some urinal bottles which he uses. Never thought of tablets though.

Just dropping by SA , good to hear you had a night out and your holiday is not far away. I love the idea that the cat gets his teeth done from your pension money.

I bet you are enjoying the sun. Have a good week.

    That's Monday done

    8 more working days

Yesterday ended up being NSD1 of August. Won't be many this month to be honest.

So today I've paid my yearly work gym membership £60, paid £10 deposit for a wine tasting evening, been to the gym at lunchtime, sorted out Mr SA's special assistance at the airport for both Ibiza and Lanzarote and registered the household for the electoral register that they seem to send out more often than once a year.

Looked for a lightweight travel wheelchair for Mr SA to take to Ibiza. eBay seem to have the best prices. Can't believe Mr SA started being picky about the colour and wheels! It's only to get him around the airports and just in case he needs it in resort. We'll be taking taxis or walking just a very short distance. Scooter not suitable for where we're going as it's very rocky and he struggled to find somewhere to charge it last year - plus most places were only about 20 metres away.

Will shortly be putting my feet up for a bit with an alcohol free beer

I don't blame you gettting away as much as you can - you need something to look forward to and a relaxing time is more than deserved as you are taking on all household responsibilities, work full time and look afte Mr Sa. Not many could do what you do SA.

    That's Tuesday done

Low spend day today £4.49 in Sainsburys and £2.20 bus fare home from work as I just couldn't face trekking 3 miles uphill in that heat with a heavy bag.

Mr SA has been doing bits to the garden but his ideas are a bit random to say the least!! Found some great pictures online though which have given me a few ideas.

I've been shattered today, the dog woke me up at 3am wanting to go outside, been really busy at work and at home, not stopped. Got my feet up with an alcohol free beer again but will be off to bed shortly - yawn.

Sometimes you just have to take the bus.

I'm assuming if Mr SA gets a bus he'd get free travel. My dh did when he couldn't drive and I mentioned it to a lady at work who can't drive as she had brain surgery last year and she didn't know she could claim free transport....just checking you knew about it.

    Hope you slept well

    Happy Friday

Milann - Mr SA has a free bus pass which includes me as a carer but we rarely use it as the problem is getting him to the bus stop and then when we get off the bus. So if we go anywhere he's on the scooter and I have to walk.

4 more work get ups to holiday

Mr SA has been a bit off today - very slurred speech and his legs weren't working. He rang the doctors for some cream for his (to be blunt) jock rot and the doctor couldn't understand him. Anyway the upshot is it's his compromised immune system causing the problem and he now has the cream.

Plans for weekend are DS and the GKs coming tomorrow, weather forecast for Sunday isn't great so will sort out suitcase and holiday clothes.

Horrendous storm here today at lunchtime - thunder, lightening, torrential rain. So my lunch break was spent in the work gym rather than spend in the shops

Mr SA's travel wheelchair purchased and will arrive Monday. He's still fussing about the colour! If he thinks I'm pushing him about in it on holiday he's got another think coming - it's for the airport and emergencies only!!
