We are going to be renovating our bathroom and currently get quotes in from three plumbers. Does anyone have any good tips on how we can get the best quote or how to reduce the costs?

Reducing wise can you do any work yourself stripping off old tiles? Ripping up old vinyl, getting rid of waste?

When I did this I got a bathroom in the B+Q sale and kept it until I was ready to proceed. Chipped the old tiles off myself, painted the walls myself and put panelling on the walls round the bath and got lino laid on the floor to cut costs. However this was not in a "forever" home so I didn't mind a cheaper job!

Get it done properly and don!!!8217;t use cheap fittings or you!!!8217;ll be redoing it all again before you want to.

What are your quotes and what are they for? How do we know how to reduce them if we don!!!8217;t know what is specified?

Do as much of it yourself as you can.
Know the person doing the work (mates rates)

There are drawbacks of these option too.

Just tile where it's needed, specify a two-piece toilet, do the tear-down work yourself, buy the fittings on-line, specify plastic piping on a roll to save time making joints, use tile-effect vinyl on floor (cheaper & warmer!)
