To use Guineapigsqueaks/my own wording, "A new thread for declutterbugs in 2015 2016 2017 2018!"

I'm going to aim to get rid of 2018 items in 2018.
There are some lovely tips on the KonMari thread here, set up by the talented Slinky: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5681824

Of particular note is post 4 of where you can get rid of unwanted items:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=69806488&postcount=4

Welcome one and all and happy decluttering!

    Hi fellow declutterers

Saver-upper, way to go I finally did a bit of arithmetic - 6 items a day will see the 2,018 items gone then I thought I bet someone already worked that out & they had on the 31st December seems the information went in one eye & out the other bypassing the brain huge congratulations - you are ahead of target

It is another gloriously sunny & hot day here

DSis & DH are off on their travels 13th Tip trip with a carload (mostly already listed) but

    F861 - F862 More crates of books

Then they are off to bank cheques, see insurance people & visit cs re organising a collection early next week.

I am sitting in the sunshine drinking fizzy water just waiting for the hordes or even the couple of people who have reserved 3 items between them Got all excited earlier - car with trailer pulled up & two people got out - quick tour but the only things they wanted were earmarked for DB Disappointed again

Oh well - off to do a bit of tidying keeping an ear out for the missing hordes

Would love to hear from some of the original posters - puhleeze

    To a clutter free 2018

I had a day off today after rest of family went back to school/work after the long weekend.
As part of another online decluttering challenge I am doing at the moment, today I concentrated on decluttering the front room.It doesn't actually look too bad,but I knew there was alot of stuff lurking in the cupboard that needed sorting through. There is permanently a bundle in the corner to be sorted for donation, and bundles of papers/kids drawings/letters etc to be sorted through, sitting around the room.
    So,out of the house today:

    Donated to a friend:
799-845:47 DVD's that my kids (ages 9-16) have grown out of.Some of them were from when my 16yo was a pre-schooler .I was initially going to donate them with everything else tothe charity shop.Instead I decided to offer them to a friend of mine who would not be able to afford DVDs for her kids.I told her to keep what she would like, any others either keep/donate/fundraise for an overseas charity she is involved with. She was thrilled ,so I am glad I did that.

    Donated to school:
846-861:16 pairs socks to use as spares
    862-874:13 pairs underpants

    Donated to Charity shop:
    875:photo pen
    876:magic sword illusion toy
    877-879:Top Trumps card games (Bin Weavils,MoshieMonsters1,Moshie Monsters2)
    880:Lego Create The World cards
    881:pro-thumb wrestling stickers kit
882:Minecraft Blockopedia-I really wanted to sell this-it cost me £15 new one Christmas, and has hardly been used. But then I dicided I really wanted it out of the house more-the space means more to me.And I hate the time needed to sell stuff- photograph, list, field enquiries, arrange a time to have a person collect,be let down and re-schedule,be asked at the doorstep if I would take less £ than agreed.........
    883:purse
    884:jewellery box
    885:pug-shaped novelty pencil sharpener
    886:Ecology Science kit,never used
    887:bouncy smiley ball
    888:plastic walking toy
889:sweatshirt with labels still on (unwanted gift to me)

    Out for recycling
890-891:2 boxes that had been held onto since September.
Day to day recycling,I don't count in this challenge, but we got these boxes in September last year. Each one contained a budgerigar for my son's birthday. Why we held onto them after transferring birds to their cage,I do not know-they have grown so much they would never fit in them again if they were being transferred somewhere......
892:bundle of scrap paper out of cupboard I had been sorting.
    893:mail sitting around,sorted through,out for recycling

I have just been having a look through the decluttering 2017 thread,so I could see where I am this year compared to the same time last year.
I wasn't actually posting in May last year, but when my mojo came back,by 24th June I had decluttered 774 items. It was 3rd July last year when I reached where I got today (893 items.)By the end of last year's challenge,I had decluttered 4300-odd items from the house.
I am happy with how the house looks at the moment-lots of open spaces, lots of empty surfaces and cupboard space. But I know my loft is still a nightmare, and there is still too much paper hanging around.......

Weather is miserable, we are miserable & we have sold an egg basket but that is it

F886 Wire egg basket - SOLD
F887 - F891 Large black bin bag of rubbish in wheelie bin, bag of books to mini library, box of safe toys to drs surgery, bag of glass to Bottle Bank, small bin bag of general toot to Tip

We are getting a bit desperate now as still have so much stuff & are dependent on other people for various things - someone rehoming cats, cs to visit & decide what they want, DB turning up with van, DNeph being home so we can deliver his furniture & boxes of stuff, people collecting the items that have been reserved etc ad nauseam

Currently in a state of limbo & have completely lost our collective mojo & the poor weather doesnít help I will struggle for OS pleasures for another thread I post to

Lovely to see so much good work going on here on this thread!
I!!!8217;ve been too busy to write everything down, but estimate a good 50 items have gone out since I last posted !!!8211; everything from a violin to books, furniture, old blurry photos to using up those random bits and bobs in the kitchen cupboard such as a splash of vanilla essence that!!!8217;s been sitting there for more than 10 years and weird items in the shed like old drain unblocker and parts for a car we don!!!8217;t have anymore!

    Thanks everyone for your motivation!

I'm sure more will be fine tomorrow and you have got rid of 5 bin bags worth today.

Back again Feeling a bit better as the weather has perked up a bit in that it is now reasonably warm even though still overcast + while DSis was out running errands, my DH & I stripped & remade our bed (the bed is too short for my DH so the covers get messed up ) + we sorted out our packing & made decisions on travelling clothes & clothes for next 10 days - a quick win from our POV as we didnít have to involve my DSis at all

Prior to DSis running errands, she & my DH started sorting the main kitchen so

F892 - F897 Two large bin bags of ood food, bottles of oil & spices galore into wheelie bins, another bag of glass for bottle bank & another bag of recycling emptied into recycling wheelie bin, small bag of toot from our bedroom, my old tracksuit bottoms binned

    F898 A lint roller - SOLD for 50 cents

    Nearly 900

The whole experience has made me even more determined to be absolutely brutal when I return to MY home (donít know if there is a Ďgrim determinationí smilie ) & I have already started a comprehensive list of things to do & the order in which to do them If we should ever move house I want to be sure that no boxes of toot will move with us & that I wouldnít have too much to dispose of before we moved. I read somewhere on one of the threads that the first round of decluttering & tidying is only the start As you get tidier & less cluttered you want to get rid of more & more & I would like to be able to clean swiftly plus I love looking at clear surfaces & empty cupboards & shelves not that I am odd or anything

    Onwards & upwards

    More has been done
634 a tub that had contained bird good which I had been keeping even though it was broken.
635 a mini Easter egg thrown away. I found it in a tree in the garden from an Easter egg hunt last year!
636 half eaten sachet of weed killer that I found in the shed.
637 battered packaging from netting. It's easier to store netting without the box.
638 a couple of sheets of sandpaper that had been used.
639-640 couple of plastic pots binned.
641 a broken plastic plate binned

I think that's all for now.

    Hi all!

Just a flying visit, having caught up with the thread. Well done all. Glad you found your mojo amongst the clutter Mrs SD. Probably hidden behind the boar's head. Saver-upper and villagelife (love the Easter Egg!), you're really powering ahead there. poorbutrich this thread does inspire, doesn't it? I found some car keys for a car we haven't had for years - but that's not in the same league as actual parts!

Posted a fair-sized post just before going to bed on Sunday and lost the lot! Tired and cheesed off, I went to bed. Since then things have been a bit of a blur.

Monday - drove to Glasgow, picked up DD and her remaining stuff, came back, unloaded car and deposited her at her dad's (where there's a bed!). Did an extremely small declutter and went to bed.

Tuesday - saw the full extent of the contents of her flat and nearly burst into tears. All decluttered spaces reclutter plus some. Sorely tempted to report 126lbs of DD permanently decluttered and I wasn't telling where the body was hidden! Fortunately, sense of humour reasserted itself, I thought "nuts to this, clutter will be here when the sun isn't - especially in Scotland! " and we went for a drive.

Wednesday - mojo back. Much of DD's stuff, plus a bit extra moved. She's not really up to helping at the mo, which is upsetting her, but it can't be helped. Anyway, most of her stuff's being stored. I'm counting it this time, because it's clutter but I won't count it again when she takes it with her.

Anyway, I have been keeping a daily record of the totals, so here they are:

Way to go basketcase Take it you still havenít found a motorbike but I did smile at the DD comment but I would fatten her up a bit or a lot & Then add her to your declutter total I hope she recovers quickly & you both enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

Today a reserved item was picked up & paid for Does anyone remember the old radiograms? This one was brought over from England over 25 years ago & DSis eventually stripped out the innards years ago & it made rather a handsome cabinet.

    F899 Radiogram - SOLD

Then another bit of good news - the English chap who had bought a chair & a high chair (at his wifeís insistence for a potential future grandchild ) finally came back & paid for the items
His wife had been tempted by a cot on the previous visit but had talked herself out of it
However she had reconsidered & sent her DH with instructions to buy + he wanted to buy a petrol mower for his friend. Negotiations ensued & finally a deal was struck so

    F900 - F901 Cot & petrol mower - SOLD
F902 Another bag of glass to Bottle Bank

    900 barrier broken

Well done everyone - keep on decluttering & enjoying the sunshine
Final thought - if you are cleaning your windows THAT is decluttering dirt

    Hi again

A poster on another thread has reminded me that we Ďminimisedí the house/gite/land/pool/outbuildings which I FORGOT to include on this thread because I reckon that is a MAJOR declutter & I am currently sitting here deciding on a number ....

I will start with number of rooms incl. bathrooms etc + number of outbuildings incl. wood storage + acres of land + the pool + the attic + the two extra long hallways + the very large Understairs Cupboard so here goes

    F903 - F921 Rooms in house = 15 + attic + 2 hallways + Understairs Cupboard
    F922 - F933 Rooms in gite = 11 + pool
    F934 - F941 Outbuildings = 8
    F942 - F946 Three acres of land & a small wooded area & a front garden

F947 Bag of ancient paperwork/receipts put in Recycling Wheelie bin
F948 Crate of in date over the counter medicines & medical supplies packed - to England ( yes you did read that correctly - crate )
The sad thing is that probably a third of it is stuff I paid good money to buy & post to my DSis - we found it all over the place as she opened her care packages & just left things where she opened them.
The only items that ever got put away in the appropriate place were boxes of Yorkshire teabags & her Take a Break magazines when they first arrived My local Post Office loved me as I was sending parcels every couple of weeks

Re the TaB mags - they ended up all over the house - we must have recycled over a hundred in the last four weeks

Anyway I shall love you & leave you

I thought of waiting till she'd put a bit of weight on too! She doesn't put weight on, though. (Well, she doesn't get that from me! ) I think it's going to be a long pull until she's really better, but she's getting there. Actually, I think the decluttering will help her recovery. TBH, it's what keeps me going when I feel liking stopping and having a good cry...

It sounds as if she's got a lot - well she has! - but once you divide them into 'for hot countries' 'to cover up in countries demanding modesty' 'really cold countries/skiing stuff' 'winter' and 'summer' It isn't unreasonable. She's travelled an awful lot and hopes to travel more, so ditching isn't really an option. Anyway, the stuff to be stored will be vacuum packed and put away. We brought various ornaments and breakables wrapped in the clothing, so I'll have to be careful.

Also, it'll weigh a fair bit. I'm still debating whether this is good cos it ups my total or bad because the amount of stuff is embarrassing! Let's go with good...

    Here's yesterday's haul and totals.
Radio Times (cancellation of subscription). I call this a preemptive strike sort of decluttering in advance for the rest of 2018 , 13.5lbs
MORE of DDís STUFF TO STORAGE
    Massage Balls, 0.75lbs
    Radio, 1.5lbs
    Trifle Bowl, 1.75lbs
    Electric Kettle, 2lbs
    Complete Set of Cutlery, 9.5lbs
    Plastic Ties, 0.25lbs
    3 Books, 2.75lbs

MOTORBIKE 0lbs (Sorry, Mrs SD. Still, Iím not quite at the back of the Bugs Bunny Cupboard yet...)

    Totals
    Dayís total 32lbs
    Running total 558lbs

Think I'll hoover the clothing it's a quick win and clears a lot of floor! Happy decluttering, all.

I chucked a ton of my old school/work books away that I haven't used since I finished school. I always have a sentimental attachment to my old work but really it's all crap that I'll never use again. I photographed important work and stored it on my phone if in case I ever need it again.

I also chucked out a bunch of old blankets. I'm a sucker for winter blankets and snuggling up and have over-accumulated these last years.
