    2018 Benbenandme's Next Battle 29th Dec 17 at 5:01 PM
Hello It's that time of year for another new diary ... I'm not a newbie, I've been around these parts for years, never quite knowing whether I should be on here or the Mortgage Free boards, but after much consideration I have decided to return here for my next diary installment.

I have previous chapters of my journey on here, but a brief history of my last ten years is as follows: I am a single parent to a 14 year old boy with ASD. I love him to bits, he is my whole world, but causes me a great deal of stress and worry too We have been living in a flat for the last 10 years and I have worked hard to clear my mortgage on it. In March this year we finally moved into a small house, which is lovely, and near my Mum. My brother lent me 30k to help get the house which is my 'debt' that I am paying back. The monthly budgets are stupidly tight, partly as I want to get it paid asap even though he is in no hurry for it back.

Looking further ahead ds is in year ten so only has 18 months until his GCSE's. After this he wants to do an apprenticeship which, from a financial point of view, means my child benefit, tax credits and child maintenance will stop , meaning a drop in total income from approx 1900 to approx 1200 So, this year could potentially be my last one with this extra income, so I need to maximise the potential ...

My next post will list my SOA and my plans for 2018, please stick around for the ride, all help, support and thoughts are appreciated and very much welcome

So this morning I've enquired about having a pitch at a couple of small local events, one is a fund day at a caravan park, (pitch is 5), the other is an open afternoon fun day at a care home (free pitch). I'll see if either come back as a yes and then will need to order more stock I know I said I wasn't going to go down this route but I was doing yet more thinking last night and my money situation will change quite drastically next summer so perhaps this could be a way of plugging that gap. If I view it as a longer-term thing and plan to build up contacts etc over the next year then hopefully it will generate some income from then on? Lets see

    It's just a pity that the P & P is so high.
Good idea to test out venturing further afield.
THe care home would be a good one I think.

The care home have come back to say they already have another seller selling the same thing so can't offer me a pitch (but I may go along and get to know her anyway ), I haven't heard back yet from the caravan park but I also found another event at a localish school and they are happy for me to have a pitch. There isn't a fee for pitches but they request a donation for Autism Wessex. I'm happy to do that, they are a local charity that I have a lot of time for

So, looks like I need to start thinking about doing some ordering

This morning I've been shopping as ds didn't have any trousers for holiday (need them for the evening). I've got a couple of pairs and he can choose which ones he prefers. I also got myself a pair of jeans (reduced to 12.99) and another pair of balck jeans in M&S reduced to 2.99 They could well go straight on ebay if they don't fit

My starter pack is due for delivery tomorrow That means I can go through it and see what is in there before I order extra stock for events. I am very excited about it all, tonight I want to sit down and crunch some figures so I have a goal in mind to aim for.

So today my starter pack arrived (30 cards) and the Christmas stock is available to order (not yet available to the public online). So i have been sat going through my list and now have got it down to:
    • 97 birthday / occasion cards
    • 6 x boxes of Christmas cards
    • 4 x packs of notecards
    • 3 x advent calendars
    • 5 x advent calendar cards
    • Various other xmas items (bunting / money wallets etc)

In total this will all come to approx 170 with another 30 for a handheld card payment device. So, with my original 45 starter pack this takes me up to roughly 250 outlay However I have filled in and returned the form and paid for my stall at the event that confirmed for August 25th. So once I'm back from holiday I need to get this all sorted out and get some more events booked in

We're home, we had the most amazing time, and are now absolutely shattered I will tell you all about it later

I've had my bath, got my pj's on and am heading for a nap on the sofa now as I'm struggling to stay awake.

Morning all, an early night last night has meant an early morning today for me. It's peeing down here so I've stuck on some old clothes and am planning on cleaning the house top to bottom today. I'll stick some music on and get stuck in and have a good clearout at the same time

The holiday was superb - we only got off the boat once, at Gijon, and that was a lovely little town, a proper Spanish town rather than a street full of places selling tat souvenirs and English breakfasts.

On the boat there was so much to do, I was worried about seasickness but you literally couldn't tell the boat was moving unless you looked at the sea, it was incredible. The staff were amazing, I honestly couldn't fault anything about the holiday whatsoever, just that it wasn't long enough

It was too early to make noise, not fair on next door, so I've spent an hour clearing surveys from my inbox (most had already closed), and am now going to do housework and potter until lunchtime, then have some lunch and enjoy an afternoon of footie on the telly with maybe a nap thrown in
