Debt Free by Xmas 2018! 3rd Oct 17 at 2:03 PM
I've decided I need to start a diary, at the minute I keep posting on so many different threads that I can't even keep up with myself! So here I'll have a central point for all those DFW challenges I'm taking part in and all the big (and little!) DFW things I do! I have a DFD target of Christmas next year, which I think is really doable! Let's smash this!!

    Today is October NSD 2/15.

My aim is to make an extra 500 in October, my total currently stands at 12.74. Dismal but it's only from my first eBay sale!

So today I have sent off F&F offer letters to Moorcroft & Lowell. Offered Moorcroft 400 on a 1400 balance and Lowell 80 on a 300 balance. That's left me some room for counter offers from them both.

I'm still to'ing and fro'ing with Halifax over the charges that I'm trying to reclaim. Originally asked for all 2100+ charges back, I was being optimistic I think, but to get a counter offer of 80 I think was taking the mick a bit!! I've written back stating I'll take 1500, 1200 of which I'll use to pay my overdraft off, so really they're only "giving" me 300. Hoping I'll be taken a bit more seriously now, if the orignal 80 sticks, it's off to the FOS I go. I'm sure I've got a very strong case for a reclaim.

It's currently week 3 in my journey to claiming back interest from my payday loans. I'm ashamed looking back at just how much I borrowed, and appalled at all the interest I paid!! I'm hoping for nearly 10k back from QQ, Wonga & SafetyNet Credit, from loans over the last 5 years! That's an average of 2000 a year I've been paying in interest to these companies that have allowed me to keep borrowing more and more every month! Honestly I'm blaming it on the fact that I was young and had a really silly relationship with money, I took out my first payday loan when I was 19, I'm 24 now and took out my last one in August. I've promised myself I will take no more out ever!

All 3 companies have acknowledged my complaint, and said they will be in touch within an 8 week time frame, honestly I'm not keeping my hopes up, I've seen that more often than not these things go to the FOS and take quite a while to be resolved. I've worked out exactly how much interest I paid to every company, and set myself a figure that I would be happy with being offered.

Good luck with your journey, I definitely find it more helpful having my own diary as I feel a little more responsible for my pennies. My DFD target is also Dec 18.

Responsibility is exactly what I need, I can post on boards left, right and centre but no one can read 100% of what I am doing. I'm making myself accountable - for the good, the bad AND the ugly! (The first ugly being that I've just had to borrow from hubby to pay the council tax, which is something I'm supposed to be in charge of paying - the bright side though is that I didn't borrow from anyone who is going to charge me interest!!) I was 500 down on my wage before I even got it this month due to paying back my final payday loan, onwards and upwards though!

    Weekend check-in!

    Totals so far:
    October NSDs 4/15
    10 a day challenge 19.75/500

I have an unpaid item on eBay which is annoying. Hopefully I should have a few more little pay days this week.

Honestly, they say these things are sent to test us, but I'm really being tested now!

We had a text late last night (not impressed!) from our landlord saying that he is giving us notice! No explanation or reason (I know he doesn't have to give us one, but it would be nice I think!) We've been in the house over 2 years, and this has just come out of the blue. So we need to move before Christmas!

The plus side is me & hubby are taking this opportunity to move to a cheaper house, we're hopefully going to be saving 150pm on rent & 80pm on council tax! So as much as there will be no over payments on debts for the next couple of months, after that there will be lots of spare cash that will be available.

    On the debt busting side!

    Totals so far this month:

    October NSDs 5/15
    10 a day challenge 28.55/500

I still have an unpaid item on eBay, and now will have lots more to add from the house move - the plus side of downsizing!

I've received a letter from Halifax today stating that they uphold the 80, so I've just referred to the FOS. i have to say the process was very simple! Now we wait...

Nothing more on the PDL complains, not that I expected anything.

    Updated totals for the month:

    10/15 NSDs
    169.75/500 Make 10 a day in October
    248.37/2500 1 debt vs 100 days

I'm not sure I'm going to meet my 500 October target, but I will try! (Toddles off to list some things on eBay!)

I've had a letter back from Lowell regarding my F&F offer, they requested an I&E form which I've sent off today. I'm expecting them to come back with a higher offer considering I only offered 30% of the total owed.

I've had emails mid last week from Wonga & QQ saying they're still looking into my complaint. No update from SafetyNet Credit.

My job is safe (for now) and we have (hopefully) found the perfect house for the next couple of years! Things are starting to look up again!

I've today accepted a refund of 1041.44 from QQ. I maybe could have got slightly more if I referred to FOS, but I'm already preparing to take Wonga to the FOS, I believe they owe me more and my QQ fight isn't worth the extra time and effort right now. Getting the money now will mean I can pay off a big chunk of my debts, either lowering the amount of interest I will pay or being able to offer f&f's to all my debt collection companies. I plan to keep a little in the bank just in case too.

Good news at just the right time!

Another refund offer from Wonga today - 994.27 AND records removed from my credit file! This is exactly what I had hoped for!
So in less than a week I have had 2k refunded to me. I'm completely speechless and this is making such a massive difference!

Just doing a few calculations this morning. If all my F&Fs come through at 50% or less my DFD will move forward to August 2018!

Considering this time last year I was robbing Peter to pay Paul I'm proud of myself for putting on my big girl pants and taking responsibility for my debt before it got too out of control.

Some more payday loan complaints will be getting sent out tomorrow, so my DFD might even be moving forward even more!

I've realised I've not been updating this diary like I promised myself I would (virtual smack on the hand!)

I currently have a few PDL complaints with the FOS, 2 of which are about to be passed to adjudicators. I also have a complaint with Experian for unfair charges, and a complaint with Capital One for unfair lending. I will be sending off complaints to a couple of catalogue accounts that I had on the basis of unfair lending too. I vividly remember at the time applying thinking I had no chance of getting credit, and being extremely surprised when I did!

I will be calling up in the next couple of days to (hopefully - if I've calculated right!) pay off my logbook loan, and rather than the 2095.56 interest that would have been due had the loan ran it's full term, I'll hopefully only be paying around 500. That will be an extra weight off my mind!

Then it's on to paying off my debt collection accounts. Watch this space!

So this morning so far I have sent off my catalogue complaints, chased up my Capital One complaint, and sent an email to FOS with some supporting information that they requested. So unless I have a response from any of the companies that is all until the new year!

Capital One came back as not upholding my complaint - so I sent it to FOS. They can't tell me that lending to me when I had defaults in the first place, Then upping my credit limit when I drew out my full limit in the first month and had paid back no more than 5pm since was responsible?? To be honest if they come back with nothing but removing the default I'll be ok with that. I will push for a refund but if not then at least my credit file will look a bit healthier. Here's to a debt free 2018!

Have i read that right Capitol One increased your limit after all you did was pay back the minimum after you had took out the full balance of the C.C?

    What was the default for?

To them it is responsible yes, if you have kept the payments upto date and if you have stayed within the card limit it is responsible. I dont understand your argument, if they have increased your limit you can decline the limit increase and request its took back to the original amount.

That's not the full story no - they irresponsibly lent to me when I could not afford to make repayments in the first place. They then increased my limit making it even harder to make these payments. Of they had looked at both my credit file and my account management they should not have 1. Given me an account or 2. Increased my limit.
