Finding an Investment left in Trust in a will? 6th Sep 17 at 11:12 AM
    Hi All

First time post for me so I hope someone might be able to help and point me in the right direction.

My husbands Great Aunt died in 1979 and recently her will came to light when a local solicitor was trying to find him as they had found some National Savings certificates in their safe which were due to mature when he reached 21 (this was in 1988!). This has all been sorted and he has received the money, £100 invested in 1979 returned £433, not life changing but a nice surprise. Anyway, the solicitor sent a copy of her will which proved very interesting reading.

The lowdown of the will was when his Great Aunt died, she left his Grandmother and the Solicitor as trustees. Her residual estate was to be sold up and the money invested, My Husbands mother would receive an income on the investment and then on her death and my husband (and his sister) reaching 21, they would receive the remaining capital from the investment.

Now, quite a lot of time has passed since 1979, his Grandmother (joint Trustee) has died, his mother has also died (1985 left no will - his father has also died 2007) and he is definitely over 21!

I am trying to locate what would have happened to the investment and more precisely who's name it would have been invested in. The solicitor who was joint trustee is still with us but cannot remember anything and the solicitors who dealt with the estate tell me that the Administration File has been destroyed.

I am trying through but nothing is showing up are going to try the UAR but in whos name would it be invested?

Any ideas anyone as the £9000 invested could potentially be worth £35k+ on the same basis as the £100 returned and its a bit to much not to try and find.

    Many thanks
