Taking it slowly, but doing it well. 13th Jul 17 at 7:39 PM
    Good evening all,

I'm rejoining this thread and you lovely people after a break of a few years.

I've got a new user name, but only because I can't get back into my old account. (My old diary was called 'Today is not a NSD'

I've kept the start of my username the same, so it's still a big wave hello from me, Wish.

A quick (I promise) update from me.

I'm about to turn 35 (still wish I was 25)

I now have a 1 year old little boy - Pickle

I'm currently on extended maternity leave/career break/unemployed (I took the statutory maternity pay from my high pressured, long hours, no social life job, handed my notice in whilst on mat leave and , because I didn't take any occupational maternity pay, I didn't have to repay any money. )

Husband is still a freelance audio visual engineer in the entertainments industry

Still in our 2 bed Victorian terrace, which we still love.

We still want to be mortgage free, but it's going to take a little longer than we thought when I was last here.

    So, why am I back?
I need some motivation and some accountability, need to get back on the no spend days. Need to curb some bad financial habits that have crept back in.
Need to lose some weight - nsd will help by no cake shop stops or treats from the discount supermarket at the end of the road.

I'm at the end of my maternity savings.

When I found out I was pregnant I stopped overpaying the mortgage and diverted all that cash into a maternity leave 'fund' to that I added my statutory maternity pay as it came in, 5k from an inheritance and a 5k gift from my parents.
The total of those savings have allowed us to live as we were for 15.5 months without hubby having to contribute anymore to our household expenses than he had previously.

I am very pleased with what we have achieved. But, that 'half month' is August and then the money is gone, I have no income and we will have to manage on hubby's self employment earnings.

I am meant to be applying for agency work, in my field, for 3 days a week from September. It's not happened yet due to hubby being run off his feet with work. I'm not worried about this, I will sort it when I can.

We have no debts, other than our mortgage (which currently stands at just less than 37k and has 12years 3 months left to run)

We receive child benefit, but nothing else (previous warnings have been too high to receive tax credits or anything else)
We have no family living nearby, so will need to pay out for childcare come September for 3 days a week, as I'll be agency and hubby is self employed we can't get childcare vouchers, but should be able to open one of the new tax free childcare accounts saving us 20% on childcare costs, which will be around 120 a week.

This is what I already do:

YNAB all my accounts - this is how I've managed to have 15 months off work
Use ynab to save for all annual bills, overpaying each section so I have a little bonus when it comes to paying the bill

Meal plan & cook from scratch

Try not to spend too much on things for Pickle, and try to sell on things he has finished with (this has had mixed success)

I'd love to have your support as I attempt to pay off the mortge earlier than planned. I'm aiming, from August, to overpay the same amount as the interest added to the account. This isn't much, but it's a realistic challenge given out current circumstances.

    Thank you for reading

    Wish.

A nsd today woo hoo, had to happen sometime, Pickle and I made wrap pizzas from the left over BBQ veggies and cheese from yesterday. I'm feeli pretty rotten, glands the size of golf balls an an incredibly sore throat. So my plan for this evening is to do my end of the month financial round ups, go in the bath for a relax and the. An early night. Sod the chores! (Need to meal plan, can I do that in the bath?)

Following up my conversation/post earlier, I've decided to ditch the 'extra' from the mop pot Andrea put it into my 13 step plan (step 3- wage storage buffer) so that target is now achieved. I'll round up my monthly spends in the next post.

Had a lovely evening one and all.
    Wish.

Well to the 0th May, not a nsd.

Supermarket shop today was 15 of household goods (including nappies) not too bad. And 75 of groceries - ouch! But this does include most of the food for a weekend away for 12 people for hubby's big birthday. I will have to pull the horns I'm going forward, especially as it's a 5 week month.

Sling money arrived, item shipped, 31.78 in 'profit' split between the mop pot & step 4.

Non of today's spend will drop into YNAB until tomorrow though as I post dated them in order to close April's 'accounts' so tomorrow I get to have fun with the tilly tidies.

Work tomorrow - local visit so not much travelling. So I may be able to come home before Pickle
Needs picking up. We shall see.

Still awaiting any bonuses on accounts to be paid (I'm sure I set everything up at the end of March, but we'll see)

There is already 150 towards the 13 step target as that comes from money budgeted rather than extras. I need to add 23.30 a day (on average) to the pot to hit the target. Tomorrow's is sorted thanks to the Sling sale. Which means 23 a day for the rest of the month. Best get selling and surveying then.

I hope you all enjoy your end of the month/beginning of the month money shuffled over the next day or so.

Thank you Pinky, I have had a good day, I really felt useful and appreciated and they have asked for more of my time which is great.

    A nsd today woohoo
3 days of the 1p challenge done.
First of the month direct debits gone out and Tilly tidies made
Mortgage interest applied - now at 2.19 a day.

With today's mortgage payment I can colour in another brick of the count down house. (20/100 now complete) also, my offset pot was the equivalent of 8 bricks on the house but, only 20 short of the next brick so I've wammed money from the everyday pots to make the pot up to 3200 and can now mark off another brick.
So mortgage paid plus offset pot =29% of the challenge complete. If I achieve my targets this month I should be able to tick off another brick. Woooooo hooooo
(I'm aware this is complicated if you are not me, but it makes sense to me)

With the mortgage interest being added I can now break my targets down.

Being/Morning/night all. I've been up trying to get ahead on some work things. I thought the days of evening work were over, but it seems not. At least I'll be appreciated for doing this.
A nsd woop woop. A few more direct debits gone out so some tilly tidies made. No 1p challenge done as the sheet for that is on the iPad and I'm currently not.

Messaged a cashback site who said my 30 cashback would be paid around the middle of April and it hasn't been. The agent released the funds immediately and then I requested a transfer.

Accepted a supply day for next week so that will be more money for the pot.

Now can I make it 3 nsds in a row?

Thank you Jimmy, my planning is quite detailed, I'm sure no one apart from me understands it. I've got multiple goals going on at the same time in order to give me small steps of success and to give me things to do all of the time.

In my not very mse news, the iPad has been filed somewhere... which is an issue, I know it's in the house, but I think the Pickle has 'tidied' it. This means I can't do my 1p a day challenge at the moment as my record is on there. So... no direct debits, no spends and no 1p challenge means no tilly tidies, so very little news on the mse front - sorry all!

So, what else can I bore you with?
Pickle is very tired, he always is on a Thursday, this is the first week he's done the full 3 Childminder days for a few weeks due to illness. He has swallowed a dictionary this week and we are getting 3 and 4 Word sentences. Also (please excuse me for being proud) his manners are lovely, please, thank you, you're welcome and 'scuse me' all used correctly and without being prompted.

Work wise, crazy as ever. I have been booked for a day's supply next week which not only swells the coffers, but also gives me some time when I can't be contacted by people connected to my other job. I'm not sure how much I've told you all about my main job (the one I started in November) And if I said too much I would be identifiable as it is a unique role but, I'm trying to bring 23 groups of people together who have worked independently for years and have now been told they are all part of 1 chain. It's not easy, and I'm having to start some things from the ground up and change practices and cultures. It's not easy, I love the challenge, but I just wish other people would do their jobs properly. Because that just causes more work for me.
Right, rant over! My friend is coming round for a gin evening, see you all on the other side.

    Hello again...
    It's amazing what can happen over 3 g&t s...
I thought about where the iPad could be, it was - 3 days of the 1p challenge done

The phone company has published my bill - under budget so a decent tilly tidy to be made both to step 13 (commercial cleaning) and the mop pot.

It's a shame my cashback hasn't appeared in my account as yet - oh well it will give me some financial juggling another day.

Evening, it looks like everyone else is out having fun this evening, not many diary updates at all.
I've been running around like a crazy one trying to get sorted to go away for the weekend tomorrow. Everything is sorted, apart from packing my clothes. Typical!!

Money wise - low spend at Mum's coffee then Big spend on a professionally made birthday cake for hubby. After all, you are only 40 once right? And that's it. This weekend could be very cheap (if ive, by some miracle planned properly) or more likely it's going to be very spendy Never mind, birthdays hey??
3 days of the 1p challenge done
    Tilly tidies made
Still waiting on cashback to be paid (30)
Still waiting for cheque refund from train tickets (30ish)

A week into May already... only an entire month to go!

Urgh, crazy spendy day today. We are away, in one of our favourite places, with friends, for hubby's birthday. 40 in a 'top up shop' of forgotten and fresh stuff (no discount supermarket or any of the 'top 4' here.
    20 in cash for 'bits'
90 in wool for some upcoming baby blanket presents. Extortionate yes, but the wool is beautiful. I may have to divert some of this month's extra income to general spends categories, but we shall see. Night all. Very tired.

Evening all, I'm lying here in our accommodation melting. We've been coming to this particular Lakeland town for years, this is one of the best weather weekends we've ever had. Hubby climbed a mountain, me, pickle and friends walked around some water.
A nsd. No 1p challenge, so, no tilly tidies either. Tomorrow is packing up and cleaning the accommodation, brunch out and then heading home. Busy week work wise this week, then a busy birthday week. Squeak squeak everyone.

Splurge and I was expecting this weekend's and month to be expensive.
Two birthdays are not helping. Haven't sorted hubby's girts properly yet, I do have the Christmas/birthday fund, but trying not to raid it as if I can take money from revenue rather than capital I'm better off long term. The wool is my major weakness though. It is so lovely to knit with.

Back home now and still melting. A lovely weekend with amazing weather. I spent 37 on brunch this morning but my friend has already given me their family's share 20, so I've got that as cash that will be spent in dribs and drabs over the week.
I know many debt busters exclusively use cash for spending, but I find it much easier to fritter away cash than cards (I think it's becuaae I YNAB everything, but don't track cash in YNAB life is too short for that for me. )

Once we were home I played with Pickle in the paddling pool for the rest of the afternoon and I'm now going to bed because I ache all over.

3 days of the 1p challenge done. Tilly tidies made and ynab up to date. Shame I've got a washing mountain and the house is a tip. But that will all keep for tomorrow.

    Enjoy the bank holiday sunshine.

Urghhhhhh has the temperature dropped at all overnight? I'm lying here, listening to the dawn chorus and can't even find a cool side to the pillow. There is no breeze which I think is the biggest issue.
Pickle is, thankfully still asleep, but he's had quite an unsettled night. I haven't had to get up to him, but he's been very vocal and wriggly. I was a little worried he may wake up cold in the night as he's in short sleeved pjs and the thinnest gro bag we have. Looks like I made the right choice.

Anyhow! Have not wasted my awakeness. Checked the bank accounts (TSB down) and my Co cashback has landed in my account 30 to the 13 step plan. Car has it's mot today. There is 280 in the maintainence pot. Hopefully that will be sufficient, if it isn't then I'm going to have to raid the 13 step plan pot as there is no wiggle room anywhere else. I'm hoping I won't need to spend other than that. Will just have to wait and see.

Well today has not gone to plan and I don't really know where to start.

    Here goes:
7:30 am have to wake a very grumpy & clingy Pickle, he did not want to wake up.
8am take excess cardboard to the tip for recycling while hubby takes Pickle to the Childminder's.
8.20am, hubby rings me - Pickle threw up on Childminder's front step and he was bringing him home (which means no Childminder's tomorrow either)
8:30 go to drop off car for mot a time the garage - mechanic oversleeps, doesn't arrive until 8:45.
9:00 get home (walked back from Garage) Pickle having a melt down over something. Hubby and I tag team sitting in the sofa with him all day - This now means I'm going to have to make my work hours up over nap times and evenings all week.
11:30 - Garage ring. Car failed mot on several points. Will be a minimum of 591 to fix can't get it finished today, so will need to work out someway of picking the car up tomorrow with Pickle unwell, and car seat in hubby's car at the house.

I have given up on today.

    Money news:
6.07 in groceries to see us through the next few days (hopefully not much else needed this week)
Car maintainence pot currently only has 280 in it - 311 short. If I wam from the 13 step plan I'll be -71 for this month's challenge - I could cry. Think I'll have to hit the survey's and bump some sale posts to try and cover the 71 at least.
