I think you need to sit down, reevaluate your original post and fill it in accurately. TV License 15? Is this right? No insurance? No travel costs? 200 for entertainment? If you are struggling to meet your debt repayments, this needs to go. Even if you weren't struggling it's still high.

Internet/Broadband, be mindful of food shopping and use what's already in your cupboards. And maybe keep a spending diary to see how much you're actually spending on things like food and entertainment. It soon adds up.

I am puzzled as to how as an individual earning over 23K a year you are able to claim benefits which cover your housing costs. When did you claim these, what is your eligibility?

Also how do you get to work or do you work from home? There are no travel costs. You spend on entertainment but apparent don't travel there is your local next door or close by.

Agree that your food shop is high, it can be worth paying for a delivery plan as you can then take advantage of offers when they will save you money. Carrying bags from a supermarket limits your choice and can make you spend more.

in which case you have have to ignore my comment about splitting the C Tax over 12 months as not sure where you stand with that up there.

Contents insurance will be under 310 a month - sort that NOW - and I mean right now, seriously, this is a total false economy.

A spending diary will help you find that surplus that you don't currently (I'm guessing) have. That's nearly 4k a year that you're currently "losing"

A trick for you on the credit cards - if you're currently paying minimums every month then set the Direct debit to the amount that you're paying right now. So if the current minimum is 50 a month change the DD from "minimum payment" to 50 - this means that you gradually pay off a little more each month. This ONLY works if you're not using the cards though so cut them up to be safe! (Cut them up anyway - you have a surplus and debts, you don;t need to be using credit).

    Thanks for the responses.

    Some background info;

39 year old single guy living in London.

I'm disabled hence the high benefit amount I receive.
I'm also retired from my job and because the company that I'm employed by has a benefit for employees suffering from long term disability. I will continue to receive 80% of my salary until retirement age.
I have a freedom pass hence minimal travel costs.
I live alone so receive 25% off my yearly council tax.

My debts occured due to my stupidity/boredom by online gambling - mainly roulette.

I skimmed through MSE's debt advice section. I am now paying about 1000 a month towards my debts leaving me approx 500 a month.

    My ISP is virgin media.
I shop for groceries online from Ocado.

Switch your grocery shopping to Tesco if you need the delivery option which it sounds as though you do. using Ocado will unquestionably be pushing your spend up.

Comments about incorrect amounts on TV license, lack of insurance and no budget for clothes among other things still stand.

I still say you need to go back through that SOA line by line and check the detail.

If you're bored at home, have you thought about doing some self improvement study with EdX ? These are free online courses given by universities all over the world. Range from beginner to more advanced and can do them at your own pace. I enjoy them and learning at the same time! Just a thought if you're struggling to fill time.

There is some free stuff with the Open University too I think. Great idea!

Of course there are also surveys which can fill some time AND make you a few 's here and there...

Your unsecured debt has gone up by 11k, your secured debt has gone down by 6.5k so you are roughly 4k better off than this time last year.

With your secured lending at 3% and other CCs now on 18 - 20% it looks like attacking things in a different order may have been more beneficial long term.

If you actually have the surplus each month where is it as it's not recorded as cash. If you've got it, throw it at the BC debt - it will make huge inroads. If you don't then you need to keep a spending diary.
