Private landlord hell 17th Jun 17 at 9:54 AM
Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I am a private tenant in Scotland and having major landlord issues! Our boiler stopped working Jan 17 and after having problems with our landlords plumber (his friend) we organised our own plumber-he pointed out that the boiler was illegal and although he could do a temp repair he wasn't willing to work on it. We also have paperwork from 2014 to show he boiler was condemned and immediate issues raised-I don't know if these have been actioned. We contacted the landlord who after numerous emails has decided to evict us. We have, worryingly, found out that there has been no gas safety check for 3 years and he knew it would fail but didn't want to act as 'it would ruin the look of the flat moving the boiler' there is also no electrical safety, smoke and heat alarms and our deposit is not protected in a deposit scheme. I think my only course of action is to move out but we are struggling to find another property (we have pets) and I know he is just going to re rent it when we leave. Should I report him to the HSE, council etc and do I need legal advice?

Since you are in Scotland your first point of contact should be Shelter Scotland.

They will be able to advise you as to the action you can take against the landlord for not fulfilling their responsibilities, will be able to go through the eviction process with you and give advice about renting another place.
