    So this is me holding myself accountable, publicly, albeit anonymously, for my spending.

    To be fair I'm not so bad, sort of, ish.

    DH on the other hand has issues!!

    Why am I doing a Diary? Well it all came to a head when DH spent his entire wage (1500) within a week of being paid. Of course a portion of this went to bills etc. But equally a lot was wasted on games for his playstation.

    It's frustrating because between us we bring in over 3k a month and literally have nothing at the end of it. I'm sick of it.

    So I've took on this challenge. I will do my utmost to rein DH in and fully intend to get us out of this debt.

    My intention is to tackle the different debt one at time.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I'm going to list our current debt.... GULP
    Outstanding on Mortgage - 84451
    Credit Card 1 - 2803.37 - interest free for 2 yrs
    Credit Card 2 - 1490 - interest free for 2 yrs
    Hitachi finance (for new Boiler) 3093 (includes interest)
    Littlewoods 518 (includes interest)
    Next 444
    Newlook (DH has no idea about this eeek) 130
    Loan 1 - 10865
    Loan 2 - 5964
    My overdraft currently stands at 150
    Dh's overdraft 700
    DH got a loan out last October - not sure what is outstanding on that so I'll have to update on that later.
    I do know that it's 155.12 a month payment.
    DH also has finance on a bicycle - again I need to get the outstanding on that
    Finance for a new TV - he got this against my advice - total amount was 899 - obtained earlier this yr - need the outstanding
    AND - he's recently took up a hobby that's resulted in the purchase, finance, for some items - again need to total figure on that one.
    See - he likes to buy things
    Without knowing DH's total outstanding I've totted up known figures.
    So including the mortgage we owe at least 110,608.37
    I also have a student loan that's 150 out of my wage every month. I believe I'm due my yearly statement this month so I can see what is outstanding hopefully. With 2 lots of Mat leave in the last 5 years it's taken longer to pay off. I'm hoping that I'm nearing the end though as that would be a huge help once gone.
    I do have some good habits!
    I overpay on our Mortgage. I think it's a monthly overpayment of around 120. I'll have to double check. Been doing that for years although previously the overpayments were more I the region of 75.
    I think initially I will concentrate efforts on overpaying the Hitachi finance and the Littlewoods account. Luckily with the Littlewoods account that is a buy now pay later (expires Jan) and I'm well on course to pay that off in time.
    With the Hitachi finance I currently pay just under 72 a month. I was the shittiest deal ever. However, it was Dec 2012. Our ancient boiler died. I was on mat leave. We needed a new boiler and in desperation took up the worst ever deal from British Gas. Ugh - shameful. I then just let it run it's course. I don't have figures at hand but I believe it was an 8 year deal and a disgusting interest rate.
    I logged into the account yesterday and found that it ends in Dec 2020. If I make just 18 a month overpayment it could end in Jan 2020!! I'm unbelievable peeved at myself for not concentrating on getting rid of this sooner. So that is my main goal!
    I aim to update at least once a week.
    End of the Month!!
    Happy halloween
    Well it's another month down.
    Some positives
    DH started his new job and it's going so well for him.
    I've been making headway with 3bay and sold loads and decluttered in the process...still a long way to go with decluttering though.
    The M&S Loan is actually one payment lower than I thought.
    Some negatives
    My old car is on the blink
    Debt has gone up because of the above.
    Relented and put the heating on!
    To cover some of the above points. DHs Loan statement came through and the outstanding is less than I've got calculated! Bonus
    However, debt total has gone up as DH has done a money transfer for a second hand motorbike, tax and insurance. A direct debit has been set up of 150 a month so that the balance is cleared before the deal runs out.
    I managed to earn another 50p in Qme3 and did an accounts tidy up which has meant another 3 off the BC.
    I've also opened up a savings account for DH that he can't gain access to. He really is the worst at money management but even worse at savings if they're in reach of him.
    Been reading up on premium bonds recently. Think I'll contribute to one for each of the kids once off maternity leave. It'll be an amount each on their birthdays.
    Hi wishing,
    that figure was when it was at its highest.
    I had contemplated adding the debt onto that figure. Then I talked myself out of it because I didn't want to see that creep up. However, when we had to get a new car and washing machine earlier in the year, therefore, increasing debt, it just ended up looking like we'd not paid much off since the LBM.
    You know what you're right. I really should add it on, even if it's closer to a 50k total
    That's a job for later, after my strong morning coffee.
    November - new month new targets
    First of the month which means new targets.
    This will be the first month I'll get just SMP so we'll have to be extra careful with spending. The only area we really need to get under control is the groceries. This should be OK as the main thing I've been failing at is midweek shop visits where I've been buying snacks. Seeing as one of my new targets is to actually lose weight I have the motivation to stop.
    On the weight front I'm 20lbs over pre pregnancy weight and a further 14lbs over my ideal weight. So I really would like to lose at least 30 lbs. I'm squeezing into my clothes and I just refuse to spend money on more. It wasn't until I saw a photo of myself at a recent Halloween party that I truly saw me looking a little plump. I'm not going on any specific diet, just making healthier choices. No eating entire packets of biscuits in one go, no getting donuts (all my mid week bad shopping habits). I walk a huge amount each day now, always over 10k steps now. Just working my way up to going for a run again.....admittedly getting time for the running is an issue at the moment.
    Following on from the comment Wishing made re the debt total. I'd toyed with increasing the figure back in April after coming back to diary following a sabbatical. I chose not to as I thought it would seem too depressing seeing that figure go up. However, as this debt busting roller coaster is so up and down it has meant that the section showing what we've paid off has fluctuated so much. It's meant that it appears we've not paid a great deal off since our LBM. And for those following my journey you jnkw this is not the case.
    I've therefore spent some time this morning going back over our accounts from January onwards. It's meant the 37k figure has gone up to a 46k figure
    BUT it does also mean that since June 2017 we've paid off a whopping 16600.19 (not Including any of today's payments)
    But get this
    16600.19 is 35.74 % of 46444.23
    You're right Wishing that figure really is a psychological boost
    OK now onto current figures
    Totals as of 1st November
    Lloyds CC 5063
    MBNA CC 3823
    Barclaycard CC 16 210 paid off well just look at that 16 to pay off by the 22nd November.
    Tesco Loan 7030.32
    Santander Loan 4352.55
    Just itching to get rid of the BC! I have to be sensible though and not just clear it using my Mat leave savings. I don't want to leave myself short as I wouldn't then replace it . However, I've just paid off another 6 , 1 from Qme3 earnings and 5 from 3bay sales. That leaves me 50p a day to find to clear in the time frame I've given myself....totally achievable. Possibly from Qme3 alone if I concentrate efforts. Part way through October (the 8th I believe) I decided to re concentrate on Qme3 and managed to earn 12.03 and in the 2 days we've had of November I've earned 1.34 therefore totally on track for a 50p a day goal. Obviously aiming for more.
    In other news the twins are now 19 weeks old. Going through a definite growth spurt. One is more demanding than the other. This has meant the less demanding one has actually resorted to sucking her thumb. Neither accept a dummy. I just hope I can prevent the thumb sucking from being a long term issue.
    Tornado toddler is sill being defiant when it comes to potty training. She recognises the need to wee and poop but chooses to wet herself or poop in her knickers. She often goes into another room or the corner of the living room to do her business, that's how I know she knows when she needs to go. We actually have more success when she's not wearing any knickers. Maybe she still thinks her knickers are like a nappy. Although she will always tell me they're not nappies! I have a feeling we'll be tackling this again at Christmas. I was always under the impression girls were easier than boys to potty train...but I've experienced the opposite so far. Dread it when it's the twins turn!
    I genuinely find potty training the most stressful thing about parenting in the early years.
    Another 2 off the BC thanks to more Qme3 earnings
    I hope I keep the momentum going with Qme3 when I'll be putting the earnings to bigger balance's.
    I also wonder whether I can clear the BC by this time next week
    Today is mainly a baking day...so much for the healthy choices diet
    Currently got a banana loaf in the oven to use up some ripened banana.
    Will also be making an apple tray bake later to use up the extortionate amount of apples we have. I can't seem to get the balance right with apple purchases. They're DSs favourite fruit and he can sometimes eat 3 a day! If I buy to cover what he eats it'll be the week he scales back. If I don't buy enough he gets rather grumpy about it
    Oh and he's finally got his first wobbly tooth at the grand old age of 6yrs and 8 months. He's hoping he loses it in a apple of all things I suspect that's because I told him that's how I lost my first tooth. Mmmm how much is the tooth fairy paying for teeth these days
    A bit of news on the 3bay front. Just sold the weirdest thing for 99p. .... 8 random kinder egg toys people will buy anything. After all fees etc I think it's only like 27p profit though But still...27p off a debt/towards a purchase /into savings.
    I've also successfully sold a few old playstation games that DH didn't want anymore. I was going to send them to CEX but begrudged paying postage. There isn't a store near by. So I opted to sell on 3bay and made slightly more than CEX were offering me. All proceeds from games sales will go towards DSs Christmas present of a new Switch game..probably Mario Kart.
    Afternoon Diary,
    Today I'm not feeling too good. Very achey and fatigued. Have so much to do and no motivation. Pushing through it though and trying to achieve a few things on my ever growing to do list.
    It's not helped by the fact that DSs school text me just I got to the gates to state they were closed for the day due to heating faillure it's not even that cold
    I'm desperate to declutter my home. We have so much stuff. Stuff without homes so they just get shoved on bookshelves, end of dining table ...just around. I really need to take a step back and decide if we really NEED these things and if the answer is yes then I need to create a neat and tidy home for it. The next job will be to teach the WHOLE family about where things live and that it takes the same effort to put things back as it did taking it out.
    Onto more MSE news. Posted a few 3bay items this morning. Refunded postage difference to a few customers. Promptly received messages off 2 of them. One seemed quite aggressive in tone asking why I had sent a refund as he won the auction fairly. I explained that it was postage refund...as explained in the PayPal message section I'd sent. He then apologised and said I needn't have bothered.....but who's betting he would've marked me down on postage costs!!
    Another 1 earned on Qme3 eek getting closer to the BC being cleared.
    I've set up our notice board in the kitchen to now show our debt at the beginning of each month. I'm aware that I generally take care of most of the debt repayments and DH doesn't see the figures like I do. He's terrible with numbers and with everything money related, often wildly under estimating costs etc. So I want it staring him in the face every day as a reminder of not only how much it's outstanding but how it's being reduced.
    Busy few days here. Gave my head a wobble and worked through my fatigue to get quite a bit of cleaning done yesterday. Still not feeling 100%.
    Tidied up the current account yesterday and cleared 1.50 off the BC and today I completed more Qme3 surveys to clear a further 1 off the BC.
    In other MSE news I read through the MSE email this morning and noticed there was a balance transfer deal with the HSBC offering 25 cashback on BT over 300 . 0% over 32 months and a transfer fee of 1.4%. I qualified for it....so guess what. I transferred the Lloyds balance. I know it's earlier than the Jan deadline but I just wanted to get cracking with it. I transferred 5060 and once cleared I'll pay off the small remaining amount on the LLOYDS. With fees the outstanding on the new HSBC will be 5130.84 (fees totalling 70.84). I'm not going to increase the big total of all debt....because I can't be bothered
    Therefore, next step once the BC is cleared AND closed will be to tackle the MBNA as that 0% deal expires in June 2020. The new HSBC deal will expire in 2021. I'd like to clear the MBNA by this time next year.
    I have a sense of relief now knowing that I don't have anything accruing interest and I believe all balance's can be cleared within the time limits. Now to just pay pay pay.
    I won't update the credit cards below until the BT is complete.
    Totals as of 7th November
    Lloyds CC 5063
    MBNA CC 3823
    GReat news about the balance transfer.
    What a relief. I don't think you need to increase the 'big' debt total by the 70 as it's effectively interest rather than capital, which the bike purchase was.
    That's bc is hitting the dust big time! A few more days and it's gone!
    Great that BC is almost gone and the cards are now on decent length deals. Clearing that MBNA in around 20 months sounds doable.
    Still not feeling great. I think my body is finally realising that looking after 4 children is hard work. In a permanent state of fatigue.
    Be that as it may I'm still managing to stay focused. The BC balance is now cleared! Woohoo. I'd opened that card just over 3 years ago and the balance has been up and down due to a few a BTs over the years. It's amazing to see it all cleared. Super happy
    BT still not gone through yet but it's pending. I called up to register for online banking and confirmed it. But. ..ugh....the HSBC app is pretty pants tbh.
    Working through some figures in my head at the moment. Once I know what the minimum payment for the HSBC will be I'll set up a DD for a rounded up figure to keep chipping away at it. The MBNA, from December, will have a minimum of 260 coming off it a month plus any extra over payments from Qme3 and tidying up the current account.
    Can't wait to see huge chunks coming off there.
    Wooooohoooooo what a great feeling to have it gone forever.
    So, the MBNA would be clear in just over 14 months if you paid 260 a month, any chance you could do it in 12?
    Keep going.
    That would be fantastic to clear the MBNA in 12 months. Even if it takes longer at least it will be cleared before the deal expires as will your DHs MBNA card he took out for the bike.
