    Get a grip ! 5th Feb 17 at 11:27 AM
    .....25/11/2018 ......
I have decided to update as its been ages since I started this thread and so much has changed including my priorities.....

We gained a puppy after starting this thread and although she is a handful she has given me something to focus on and to get up for each day.

DS split from one long-term gf and is now several months into a new relationship and started a new job and seems very happy.

Sadly DM passed away suddenly this year and I miss her every day. Then DF was seriously ill in hospital with sepsis and almost died but thankfully he found the strength to pull through and is making a full recovery physically. We are supporting one another emotionally as a family.

I started this thread with the focus on saving some money. That hasn't happened and I have ended up with some debt on a 0% credit card but it is being paid off as planned and I am still managing to pay all bills and still have some money to spend with friends. I am planning to start saving for an emergency fund in the new year 2019.

Thank goodness its the weekend ! The first week back at work after Christmas holidays has felt like a lifetime.

Yesterday I collected my parcel of clothes from George bought with my Christmas money and I now have a dilemma. They sent me 2 of the same handbags but I only ordered one and they have only charged me for one !

I didn't get chance to try the clothes yesterday so I will do that today. I have arranged to go with a friend to the local pub for a cheap lunch 2 for 8.99 so I am looking forward to that later. DS is home for the weekend so he will be walking the dog.

I provided my meter reading to my gas & elec supplier and my direct debit has gone up slightly, but not by as much as they wanted last month ! They were asking for 69 a month but I set it at 60 for December and they have now recommended 64 so I've changed to that from 1 Feb as I don't want a big bill. I must admit I do like EON for this reason as you can set your own direct debit, especially after recent reports of a certain foxy provider ripping people off. I tend to go for the cheapest of the larger providers but have been to co-op energy and M&S energy and sainsburys energy in the past when they were offering cheap deals. I must admit I'm the same with car insurance and house insurance I never go for the cheap providers who I have never heard of I go for the cheapest of the well known providers, maybe I'm missing a good deal but it somehow makes me feel more secure

Week 2 of the declutter and I bought a cream plastic wicker effect wash basket for the kitchen for wet dog towels which is ideal. I was looking at a similar small slim basket in h&m last week which was 23, but this curver one was in asda for 12 and is just the right size to fit where I had in mind without taking up too much space. This means the wet dog towels are off the floor/worktop and the dog can't keep pinching them and running off with them

I also bought a clear plastic small 4 drawer stack of shelves in asda also 12 which fit on the end of the worktop and I have decluttered the entire worktop. Anything I have kept has gone into the drawers, including one drawer for carrier bags and one for recycling cans/cardboard etc waiting to go outside to the main recycling bin. It looks so much tidier which is a relief as stuff was starting to pile up and kept falling off. My peg basket fits on the top too, so the dog can't keep pinching my wooden pegs and chewing them !

Hello it does feel like a looooong week. I was just too busy to post but I did read sometimes.

I hope you keep the extra handbag - A&da can afford it. If you feel guilty put a bit of money in a charity tin. Hurrah for all your shopping - it's so nice that you are able to treat yourself for a change.

Glad you are feeling better and hope you have a good time with your friend.

Thanks SW. Not sure what I will do about the handbags. I have a really bad guilt complex so if it's going to cause anxiety I will probably send it back. Too honest for my own good

I had a lovely afternoon chatting with my friend. We went to the local pub so only a short walk. It was packed but we got a table and didn't mind waiting. 2 meals for 9.99 plus 2 drinks and my friend had a voucher for 33% off so total cost 6.03 each. . However they got the order wrong and brought out 2 of the same meals so took one back, then my friend started eating hers and the chicken was cold so she sent that back too. The landlord gave us free drinks and 20 minutes later 2 lovely hot tasty meals. So a bit of a wait but as we were not in a rush it was worth it.

Lots of washing to do today hopefully it will be mild and windy as forecast and I can get some dry on the line. Will hoover & clean dog room when DS takes the dog out. More decluttering too.

Thank goodness its the weekend again I now have 2 weeks off work and dad is coming to stay. It will be a year since dearest mum passed away but we will hopefully be able to celebrate her life while he is here.

Dearest dog has destroyed two of her toys this week, naughty puppy. I bought a replacement in B&M robust rubber and only 2. I've started recall training her again after watching a new tv series this week- Dogs behaving very badly This involves tinned hot dog sausages and she is doing very well so far !! I bought a couple of cheap tins in aldi.

I decided I didn't like either handbag from asda and the pair of shoes don't fit so they are going back next week.

I have paid my xmas credit card bill and later today I will pay another 50 off my 0% credit card. DF is bringing me a couple of 15kg bags of dog food from the cheap northern manufacturer we used last time, so we will be saving a fortune. This will be paid for from dog food savings account.

    Week 3 of 52 week declutter -
I have cleared my dressing table and am quite ashamed how much junk there was on there My bedroom feels much calmer and more organised now. Just one pile of stuff to sort through. My friend gave me a dozen Nora Roberts books which I have removed from the carrier bag they have been sat in for weeks and put on my shelves. I just need to get round to reading them now Once read they will go to the library or the charity shop.

Today I have put an oven cleaner on my double oven. It needs to be left for 4 hours and then I will have a sparking clean oven ... once I've cleaned all the gunk off. The Christmas decorations need to go in the loft. Then I will hoover.

I have made a list of things that need doing this year, some will be done over next 2 weeks

    clean oven
clean u bend under kitchen sink
    clean washing machine filter
clean back kitchen door & kitchen windows
    fix blinds back door
replace torn piece of wallpaper spare room- have a spare roll & wallpaper paste leftover
    replace porch roof
tidy forecourt replace broken tiles and concrete
paint utility room - I already have paint for this bought last year
finish painting skirtings in my bedroom - did 1 side of room last year hopefully the paint is still useable
paint loft hatch - hopefully with leftover paint from skirtings
    replace my bedroom carpet

Some of these will cost more than others and all will be paid for from household savings account.

Some small savings this week. Returned some Xmas presents to george 22 refund. Bought a lovely chenille scarf 7 and found a pair of matching gloves reduced from 3.50 to 1.25.

Bought Mr muscle oven cleaner on offer

Meal out with DF -two meals and2 drinks total 17 so within 10 each budget.

Ordered DF 2 pairs of new shoes online delivered free to Store locally while he's here and got 5 off code for registering for their newsletter.

Parked free near town and walked in. Bought new tumblers 50p each x4 in wilko today didn't get charged for the carrier bag every penny counts !

Renewed car breakdown saved 10.10 on renewal price.

Had my hospital appointment today specialist said my neck / shoulders muscles and scar tissue so solid they have pushed my larynx out of position which is why I have so much pain
Lots of therapy / painful physio to come but hopefully worth it !

Found 2 coin while walking dog this morning. Now if I found that every time I had to scoop poop after her I'd be rich.

Decluttering week 4 - old car mats donated to DF, old chewed dog bed and old rusty dustbin (we now have wheelie bins) to tip. Pile of packaging from my bedroom to recycling. Glass bottles from kitchen to bottle bank.

It was very mild yesterday so we had a trip to the seafront and a lovely walk about 2 miles. I cooked bacon sarnies for breakfast after walking the dog then i cooked liver and onions for dinner after walking the dog again. So we saved money by not eating out and I hopefully walked off a few pounds

Plans for today - more decluttering. DF is going to help me replace a piece of wallpaper in spare room. It came off when we had a leak under the window but that was fixed over 12 months ago I have a roll leftover but had to buy some paste 2.98 but 2 of that was the 2 Coin I found in the field when walking the dog

Food today will be from freezer / stores.

Bless you I have been crazy busy at work! I just read about the scar tissue - this is a common problem after operations it seems from chats to my friends. At least they now know why you are in pain and hopefully they can do something constructive to help finally.

    Have a good weekend.

The wallpapering is done now I need to take an old piece to BnQ and get a paint match. The paper is white and covered old plaster then was painted a sunny warm yellow. A small tin shouldn't be too expensive.

Yesterday was breezy and sunny so 2 loads of washing dried outside. DF fixed some loose panels on my shed. I treated DF to Sunday lunch at a local pub. It was a short walk so no petrol used. Dinner was 6.79 each and with drinks and puds minus a 5 off voucher came to 19 so still under my 10 each budget and no washing up

Today I have taken DS to train station and fed dog. Later I am going to pick up discount shoes for DF which should be delivered free to local store and get some shopping at aldi.

    Payday

DF went home today will miss him. We got lots of jobs done while he was here. My friend took me out for lunch today as a (very) belated birthday gift. She has just got a 20 hour contract at a new employment after looking for work for many months. We got 2 for 10.49 and 2 drinks came to a total of 16.99 and bless her she insisted on paying. I drove so picked her up and dropped her off on the way home.

I called at the card shop on way home and got 10 cards for my birthday stash and 6 first class stamps total 10.01 which will come out of the xmas / birthdays fund currently standing at 50 from January.

I've worked out my budget for February and as it's a council tax free month I will start off my emergency fund at 140. Dog food fund 10 money from DS. He pays for dog insurance & monthly plan for flea / worming out of his account. We now have 5 x 15kg bags of food so enough to build up the dog food fund again. Xmas / birthday fund now 90.

We have a ladies pamper day booked at a friends house this month so massage & facial will be 20 from entertainment budget.

No snow left here. Hoping to get some washing out on the line today. I hoovered and mopped kitchen floor yesterday. Today I plan to wash kitchen windows & patio doors and put oven shelves into bag with cłeaner to soak overnight. I'm making a lamb and butternut squash curry in the slow cooker for tea.

Must not use the credit card in February !! My 0% card is reducing nicely but I still occasionally use my old card which is not 0% but I pay it off in full the following month. It's mostly takeaways so it must stop !!!

I fell asleep on the sofa last night so I didn't put the oven shelves into the cleaning bag overnight. I did clean the kitchen window/door/glass yesterday. Over the last 2 weeks also managed to do the following jobs, so feel like I have used the time off work productively

clean u bend under kitchen sink
    clean washing machine filter
clean back kitchen door & kitchen windows
    fix blinds back door
replace torn piece of wallpaper spare room- have a spare roll & wallpaper paste leftover
Originally posted by Skint yet Again

Week 5 of 52 week declutter - emptied kitchen "junk" drawer, cleaned it and sorted through "junk". About half of the stuff was binned and the remainder put back in the drawer using old cotton bud plastic tubs to put things together like screws, nails, glue, fuses, bits of wire/string etc, so its much tidier now and I can see what is in there. Also now that the spare room damaged wallpaper has been replaced I put away the wallpaper paste bucket / brushes etc which has been lurking in my bedroom . Starting to feel a bit more organised - aiming for tidy room, tidy mind

It was a NSD yesterday and should be again today. DS and his gf are walking the dog later. Back to work tomorrow so hoping for a relaxing day, just some more washing and a bit of ironing to do. I rarely iron and I try to buy things that don't need ironing but I will need to give my work trousers a quick iron.

End of January update on my new years resolutions
    1. look after my health better.
After losing DM so suddenly I have let thinks slip so I need to get back on track. I am overdue for a diabetes check, another ladies health check is due, and I haven't been to the dentist for over a year.

    ENT appointment - done
speech therapy first appointment assessment - done
    ladies health check - done
ENT follow up appointment - next week
    mammogram appointment - mid February

I have had a letter about my diabetes health check so will ring dr tomorrow to make appointment

    still to do:
    dentist
    opticians

    2. continue to meet up / eat out with friends within budget.
I will try and stick to my drink & meal for under 10 or use vouchers
Have managed to stick to budget per meal even while DF was here

    3. to do the 52 weeks declutter.
I will aim to declutter at least 1 thing every week. on track with this and starting to notice a difference in general tidiness of the house and feeling "lighter"

    4. continue to budget for all my bills, pay off my 0% credit card and build up my emergency fund.
Budgeting still going well. Aiming for "no credit card spend February" and council tax paid over 10 months so 140 this month paid into emergency fund

*sigh* I long for a council tax free month, but as we moved to our love nest mid-year, we don't get one.
