    Get a grip ! 5th Feb 17 at 11:27 AM
Message to self ... get a grip ! Stop moaning about your job and do something about it. Reduce your outgoings so you can leave your job ! Save money so you can leave your job ! Downsize the house so you can leave your job !

Ok so I am mid-40's divorced with DS 21 still at home. He pays half of the bills and his own food (high protein diet).

I hate my job (in case you hadn't guessed lol) and would like to leave but at the moment it gives me financial security and lots of adaptations for my disabilities which put me off / makes me worry about getting a new job. I am not sure what the future will bring (at some point DS will leave home ...hopefully !) but I really need to get some savings in place.

    So here goes........

Am glad its Friday too SW. Have ordered indian for delivery may have to raid the xmas fund but I am so tired I cant be bothered to cook.

I got an email confirming my 15 amazon voucher today may use it to start looking for xmas stocking fillers at the end of September for DS.

Its turned very cold in the evenings & mornings. Haven't had my heating on yet though.

I put petrol in the car today, I was just going to put 10 in but put in 10 for next week as well to save going again all from budget now 30 / 40.

DS gets paid tomorrow so once he has paid me for food and bills I will pay my credit card and work out my budget for the rest of the month.

Yesterday was a NSD. Apart from 2 puppy walks I managed to wash down the walls and skirtings in the puppy room which were looking a bit grubby, hoovered upstairs and tidied & dusted my bedroom. One load of work clothes washed and dried outside. I also did some batch cooking with mince, a big pan of chilli and meatballs in tomato sauce for some freezer meals for DS. I had the offer of going to a party last night but turned it down, I didn't feel up to it, especially as the group of people are big drinkers and very loud, think I'm past all that now.. too old !

I got an email from toby for 50% off mains so I am going to invite a friend to come with me for a cheap meal. A bit more sedate now I'm getting on a bit

DS and his gf stayed over last night. They are both on night shift tonight so I will probably cook us all a dinner later before they go. I think I will walk down the coop later and get a chicken and do a roast. I have potatoes and veg.

Yum to the roast. I am noticing the cold too. I will not turn heating on till November as I spent too much on last year's winter.

Its been a lovely sunny day here and I managed to get towels washed this afternoon after work and dried on the line.

DS has paid his rent so I have paid my credit cards. The non-0% card bill has been paid in full (the vet bill will be on next months bill and hopefully the insurance will have paid out by then.) and 50 to the 0% card. I will update my signature once the payment has cleared.

DS had some good news he has got his dream job that he has wanted to do since leaving school after many disappointments and a lot of hard work However he will be taking a 4k paycut so I have been helping him with budgeting and using this site he has moved his credit card balance to a longer 0% credit card. He will have less money for socialising which will be hard for him at 23 but we all have to make sacrifices.

I made a pasta bake this afternoon and have had some for my dinner, DS will take the rest to work on night shift. I did however spend 3.45 in the shop on a tuna sandwich, crisps and cup of tea as I forgot my coffee mate Spending on food at work / takeaways is getting out of hand so I need to curb my spending as it means less savings. Must be more organised !

Fabulous news on DS's dream job. Im glad he is doing what he likes and i hope he has an increase in salary v soon. If he learns to cut back (and I can't think of a better teacher) he will do v well in life!!!!

Well done on home cooking. I realise I have been cutting back on this and relying on takeaways so I will start this too. It's getting dark early now. Time to think about Christmas. yikes..... Have a good day tomorrow.

Warm day today. Was glad when work was over. Took puppy for a run around the park in the sun... she was the one doing the running

Had fish and chips from freezer for lunch from 5 meal deal bought the other week from co-op. Had a snooze this afternoon as I didn't sleep well last night. I think it was the wind howling outside and I feel like I'm coming down with a lurgy. Took a couple of paracetamol then felt better and walked dog a second time over on the common this evening. The council have been and cut down a lot of the long grass and brambles so lots of new paths are opened up so puppy enjoyed sniffing around

I have checked online banking and current savings
    Emergency fund 100 / 500
    Bills account 40
    Christmas/birthdays 250

Not where I wanted to be, but life happens and due to current circumstances I have not saved what I had hoped. Lots of house maintenance this year and other unforeseen expenses but I am not going to worry about it. As long as we have a roof over our heads and we are not struggling to pay bills or buy food I will be grateful.

Feeling under the weather today got a bug I think. Taking paracetamol and going to have a fish pie from freezer in a minute as not feeling up to cooking. DF is also unwell and is going to phone his Dr in the morning. Difficult not to worry about him but will try and get some sleep tonight. Credit card payment has come off the balance so I have updated my signature. 1 load of washing dried in the blustery wind this afternoon.

Oh dear, lurgy is going round where I live too. I'm just trying not to breathe the same air as other people, but it's a bit difficult on buses and in an office :/

Well done on the credit card!
I work in Pensions and I'm currently saving for my first house deposit

Had another take away last night as was feeling so unwell. I've taken 50 out of the holiday fund to cover the extra ones I have bought and hadn't budgeted for.

DF is still unwell and going to stay with my DSis for a week so I am glad she can keep an eye on him. Always a worry that sepsis can return but hopefully not and just a bug.

I've got a lump swollen tonight on the side of my face and it is really painful. I think it is a auricular lymph node next to my ear due to this viral thingy. I will go see the pharmacist tomorrow and see what they suggest. May need a visit to the doc next week.

2 short dog walks today and one load of washing dried in the gusty wind this afternoon.

It's raining here today. I have a stew in my slow cooker for later. looking forward to that.

The pharmacist has told me to continue with paracetamol and see dr if not better next week. I got a letter from the hospital today and the appointment I booked last week has been cancelled so now I have to wait for them to send me a new date.

I am going to batch cook some pasta bake and Cajun chicken for DS work meals and I may bake some muffins. The heat from the oven will warm the kitchen. No heating on yet. Puppy has been walked earlier and is snoring on the sofa

    NSD today

Walked the dog for an hour in the rain this afternoon but had my waterproofs on. Stew was lovely and a couple of portions for fridge and freezer. DS popped in and got some food for work tomorrow then went off to his gf for the night. Early night for me I think. This lurgy is really lingering.

I am having pizza from freezer for lunch and some leftover chicken pasta bake for dinner. Hopefully a NSD.

I am so sorry you have the lurgy! People have it at work too and I am hoping to avoid it. It catches up with me usually. I am hoping I will be eating healthily to fight it off.

I hope your father is getting better. Payday on Friday, hurrah.Sending hugs, swxxxx

Payday on Friday and I have lost track of my account I know I have my car service plan to come off 28.08 and I called at morresons yesterday for a few bits and pieces of food for the rest of the week 7.55. There is also a takeaway 10.68 still to come off. If I don't spend anything else that should leave 52.71 in my account. I've got a few meals left in the freezer so hopefully no need for any more spending before Friday.

I took a tuna sandwich and banana into work today so no spending in the canteen ! I went to the doc and have been given antibiotics for the swelling on my face which they have said is a gland. Hopefully the pain will ease once they start working. Thankfully I get free prescriptions.

I wanted some mints as I went from work and didn't have a toothbrush and as I knew the doc would want to look in my mouth I didn't want to knock her out with tuna sandwich breath. The cash point only had 20 notes so I bought sugar free mints 68p. I will use 13 of the change to pay for my xmas work meal. My team are going to a local pub for a 3 course meal 12.99 bargain

I have 6.32 cash left in my purse so I am putting 5 away towards xmas drinks/meals. That should leave 32.71 in my account.

We had a breakfast meeting at work today. I brought orange and apple juice and some cups 3.58. I also paid for my xmas meal 13.

Walked the dog when I got home and hung out a load of washing. Have been feeling unwell this afternoon, not sure if its the antibiotics. Anyway I walked the dog again around 5pm but didn't stay out long and had a lie down when I got home.

DS is working nights tonight, his last shift in his old job. I have transferred 5 to his account so he can buy food. I was going to cook tonight but don't feel up to it. If I feel hungry I will have a aldi fish pie from freezer only 69p cheap but tasty.

    Payday tomorrow.

Hope your sneezing has stopped and it hasn't turned into anything SW x

Payday yesterday and I went shopping on the way home from work. I have calculated I spent 101.25 last month on takeaways etc This has to stop !!!!!!!!!!

50 was from my entertainment budget but that's a big overspend. I am trying for a take-away free month in October. Instead I have bought some ready meal curry's, nan breads and popadoms (indian), some ready-to-wok noodles and stir fry and spicy wings (Chinese) and pizza, wedges and garlic bread. These are for when we fancy a takeaway this week.

I spent 67 but this is within budget and included 16 pack toilet rolls & dishwasher tablets. When DS starts his new job on Monday they will provide lunch so it will save me from doing so much batch cooking and I can start and put away money for dog food out of the money DS gives me.

I will work out my budget for the month later. The weather is meant to be good today so I am going to wash bedding and work clothes.

Hello I am just as guilty. I did 3 clothes washes and dried them outside. Then today I met up with a friend and we had a meal (20), then I bought a lovely clock (charity shop), food, housethings (21). Total cost 50!!!!!! I am supposed to be making money not blowing half my spending budget for the month in one day!

There is one gorgeous shirt that I want (cheap price of 15) and after that noooooo more. I have sooo many clothes.

Let's focus on doing housework, work and if we are bored exercise rather than eating out and takeaways for the rest of the month.

I am not going to eat any meals at work either even though they are gorgeous. I must money save.

Are you with me? We've got to help each other stay on track. I am spending like when I worked full time and earned serious money and I don't. I am the best dressed person I know but I would rather retire with a decent amount of savings rather than retire with a nice clothes collection and live on Weetabix.
