Debt Demolisher 28th Jan 17 at 4:51 PM
    Hi MSE ers

Have plucked up the courage to admit that I cannot cope financially.

Long story short. We are £82,590 in Credit card and Loan debt basically spent on nothing but shopping, holidays, clothes and household things.

We are not in arrears or any CCJs at present but fear this will not last.

I completed the step change debt remedy tool thing today and it advised me to ring them on Monday Petrified at the thought of phone calls, bailiffs at my door and threatening letters etc. I don't even know what to expect about the process etc.

What do I have to show for it all NOTHING

So angry with myself but I do feel a little easier as it seems I have woken up and am willing to face it all, pay it all off and remove a lot of the stress I have every month.

Myself and My OH both work and are both willing to pull together to sort this sorry mess out. I am hoping that keeping a diary and soaking up some excellent tips and advice will see us through to the end.

I have seen some excellent advice and encouragement given on here and have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the advice and diaries.

One day I will be advising others (I hope)

    Please be gentle with me
    M

I just wanted to say Hi I've been reading your diary the last few days and it's been really inspiring and informative, thank you so much for sharing your story and being so open and honest about the DMP process, I'm just starting out and it seems so massive and scary right now

Reading back at the beginning of my diary I was in a right state. Sleepless nights, arguments with DH, tears the lot. You name it we went through it. BUT I can honestly say it's one of the best decisions we've ever made.

You will feel scared and think there is no way out but take it from me our creditors have been brilliant with us. Non judgemental, supportive and even asking us if our payments are low enough for us

Please don't panic about the DMP journey and don't be afraid to tell your creditors what you can realistically afford to repay them. Don't leave yourself short and we even upped our budget on quite a few things to give ourselves a little breathing space. Yes it will take us a long time to repay but repaying it we are as well as being able to live.

No nasty letters or phone calls so far and I'm not scared to speak to our creditors either now. . A far cry from what I was like at the start.

Good luck and post lots on this site, ask questions on the DMP thread and I promise you, you will be fine

Another payday for me and another lot of payments gone to our debt. Will update signature in a moment and see the total come down a little again. At least it's coming down and not up.

Overall things are still ticking along nicely and even had a phone all from one of our DCAs for a review. The nice lady even questioned that I have been paying 74p too much on one of our debts.

I rounded the figure up to a nice round number and she wanted to know where the 74p is coming from and checking that we are not leaving ourselves short. She even asked if we wanted to lower the payments.

So creditors can be supportive and accommodating

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the beautiful weather we are having.

Just off to Lidl's to do a shop and need to stick within budget. I have a holiday from work now so I won't need to worry about buying too much, I will be here to ensure I cook from scratch and use up what in the deepest darkest depths of the freezer.

Heaven knows what I'll find in there

Sun is till shining and a bit cooler today.

Weigh in today and now up to 19lb lost . 8lb to go to my own personal target. Not the one that the charts say I should be Ridiculous weight guides. According to that I should be another 1 and a half stones lighter. No way I would look I'll.

Finding my healthy eating plan a lot easier now along with swimming which I love. Our DMP has settled down and is running smoothly. Please God it continues to do so. I'm not stressing over money as much now and take each day as it comes. A far cry from 18 months ago.

After Christmas I plan to start looking at F & F offers to the two smaller debts and see what happens. What's the worst that can happen, we will still be plodding along

Glad things are going smoothly on the money front M, and I agree with you about 'correct' weights - some of us would look as though we were dying. Mind you I wish I was a couple of stone nearer to mine!

    Morning diary world

I'm still here and haven't melted in this heat How hot is it

Anyway not much happening here on the debt front, I had 2 letters from the PRA Group offering F & F settlements. That's great I hear you say. Errrr no lol. They offered me a £50 discount on both debts. But they said I could pay them off monthly at £700 each per month Helllooooo. I'm on a DMP in case you hadn't noticed. Swiftly tore them up and binned them. Quite an insult I thought. But I will carry on as I am and they will get their money just not as soon as they hoped.

Weight loss going well I'm up to 21lb down I want to lose about another 7lb to make it 2 stone I was going to say then I'll be happy, But I'm a woman and according to men we are never happy
I must admit it's been easier in this heat as I don't feel like stuffing my face.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weather. I must admit I'm wanting it to rain. I will sit in the garden if it does lol

    Morning diary world

I've been playing around with numbers this morning and feel I need to set myself some more smallish goals. Our debt journey is plodding along but I'm getting a little bored with it if I'm honest. Only because we pay everything we need to every month and I'm feeling a little

I suppose I want things to move a little quicker and I need something to work towards during the month. Sorry it makes sense in my head

I plan to try and save £1000 by Xmas. (But your in massive debt i hear you shout) I know I know but I also need to ensure we have a life too. There's things we need for the house and I want to be able to save for a cheap holiday next year. We both work hard and I feel we deserve a short break away (nothing extravagant) This may seem selfish and irresponsible considering the hole were in but I need something to look forward to and aim for. I enjoy watching the different little pots of money grow however slowly. We have been wasting a bit of money recently on nothing in particular it just dwindles and I need to reign it in now before we get back into bad habits.

Our short term goal will be finished in around 3 weeks time and we could've paid this off but again I like to see the figures changing regularly and updating my signature Sad ain't I . It's given me a boost to see we've nearly cleared a small debt and I don't want to upset our original payment plans, so have let it continue as it is.

A very random post today but just getting my thoughts down in writing. Feel free to ignore my ramblings

Anyway my plan starts today and let's see how it pans out.
