3rd Time Lucky?!- Attempting to clear 6645.93 of debt in 105days (3months+13days)!! 13th Nov 16 at 9:21 PM
Ok so have kinda messed up turns out Haliwax (cc2) have started charging interest 2 this month...seriously confused thought it had a much longer 0% interest term. So have stupidly opted for a 3 month 0% Interest balance when I should've got a longer term...only a 4 interest on a 3.5k balance but damn Im so annoyed with myself for this!! So basically both cards need to be paid off ASAP. so far daily payments made have been 2.11 pathetic I know but something at least. I think this shows me how much I need to sort this out. Im ready! So my plan is to pay 3 monthly instalments of 1048.64 to cc1 and 3 instalments of 59.01 to cc2 (1107.65 total to be paid on the 1st each payday) I have to try to live on the rest 1237.39- maybe a little tricky but needs to be done. After the remaining balance of 3322.96 will be paid with February's pay (assuming I receive a bonus this year) New goal DFD 26 Feb 2016...105 days from now so google tells me (3months & 13days from today)...New Challenge..new diary...here goes!! *crosses fingers*....3rd Time lucky?!

    Evening Diaryland,

Sorry for the lack of updates, Im still here debt busting...but I took a time out to celebrate the Christmas season with my family...It was brilliant... ok Money updates: So payday came and went and I paid 1102.74 of the intended 1275 debt payment taking my last CC down to 3999.26...I've still got 172.76 to make up! I will pay the rest later (if i can) but I went a little OTT on the Christmas spends- A new hair dryer (mine died ) and some Tresemme products to tame my hair (am shunning hairdressers after all- so I figured It was justified) ...

I also had another couple of splurges which have gone into the things I didnt budget for in YNAB- 1 new cordless phone and a Christmas tree It sounds mad but I was given my mums It looks great but its very very old and a quite worn, it did for this year. So I saw one in clearance like was 80 now 17 which will save me buying one next year. OH agreed it will save on me buying one next year....Speaking of OH hes complaining his hungry so I best get something on (yup I started cooking now too Im getting better! ill be right back x

    Day 1 of 365
    Happy New Year everyone

I hope you all had a wonderful NYE's...We had a quiet small gathering at home and Ive spent the whole morning recovering

Today begins a new chapter for me...Ive been routing though the debt free wannabe challenges and have signed up for a few. This year will be the year Im finally debt free, I also want to get better control of my finances to ensure I dont get into debt again and can finally start moving on with my life in the right direction.

    My Goals for 2018:
    • Clear my remaining debt 3999.26 by the 31st March 2018
    • Save an emergency fund of 5000 by 31st December 2018
    • Begin saving a deposit for a home of 15,000 by the 31st December 2018
    • Be consistantly Positive and Grateful thoughout 2018
    • Improve my money management skills
    • Lose 2 stone and get back into shape
    • Read at least 12 self development books in 2018
    • save 2 per day in 2018 for Xmas
    • January'18- Dry January

That's as much as I have come up with...but will edit some more as they spring to mind.

My smaller Targets for January are:
    • Read 2 books: 1 finance & 1 self development
    • bring your lunch to work challenge- 23days
    • No Spend challenge- 18SFD
    • Earn 10 per day through January- 310
    • Eat Healthy- no junk for January
    • Dry January- No alchohol
    • keep regular checking with diary to stay on track
    • Be more organised and punctual
    • spend more time with family and friends- be more present with those I love
    • Keep on track with YNAB
Read 2 books- one finance book and one self development book

I think that's enough to get my teeth into Am really looking forward to the year ahead ... I hope everyone has a fantastic 2018!!

    Day 2 of 365
    Evening guys,

Today was a fairly good day, I managed to get into work fairly ontime, also got a seat on both trains (its the little things)

No nsd today, spend was 5 to charity, 6.90 food top up (veg, flour, eggs and lemons. income- quidco 2.90 and a salary increase of 2%- gives me an extra 48 take home per month. unsubscribed to prime saving 7.99 this month- will be reallocated to my debt repayment. Managed to take lunch in and take the Christmas decs down..that's about it.

nothing much else to report I'm afraid...just ticking over until payday comes- 3 weeks and counting...

    Happy Tuesday everyone!

    Day 3 of 365
    Hey guys,

Today was another fail at a sfd- Tomorrow I will do it tomorrow. Needed cake for a colleague and a birthday present so much for being organised...I also weighed myself today 14.1 I have definitely oversplurged at Christmas
So not only am I on for shredding debt by 31 March but I also I want to lose weight...I know were 3 days in but ill start from tomorrow nothing but salads & water until I can fit comfortably in my clothes.

Work was good- trying to focus and keep up momentum!!

    ok positives for the day:

had a laugh with the girls from work
    Got a good lot done
Began reading 1st book- 7effective habits of the highly successful..4.04 in interest earned today a small win!!
brought in lunch, prepared lunch for tomorrow too...
I need to make some bigger wins throughout the year...nothing more to report...sorry its not more riverting..im working on it

Just waiting for the weekend now.., I have a babyshower (don't hate me but I hate babyshower's) Is it awful if I don't go? its on the other side of London as well I thin k ill give it a miss, present already brought will give over when the baby is born and I visit him...All I want is a lie in and chilled weekend

    Evening all Happy Sunday!!

I hope you've all had a fab weekend...I made 26 this weekend on a tv stand Very happy with this, the text book hasnt sold yet but fingers crossed!!

This weekend was ace, I saw my friend Friday which was lovely had a good catch up at her house...Went briefly to a work leaving do had 2 soft drinks (yep im doing this) and get this the drinks cost 20p?! 20p? I looked at the barmen like he'd lost his mine...all this time ive been buying 20 bottles of red and I was actually having a grand old time sipping lime and soda for practically nothing!! hopefully this dry Jan will make me lose some weight too!

OH & I took my sis to see Pitch Perfect 3 as she stayed the weekend, I didnt get to the baby shower so will pop over with the pressy to meet the little prince when he arrives...wow cinema is expensive I usually go to cheap 5 job so I was well shocked! OH gave me some towards it so it took off the sting...Sis seemed to have a good time (always hard to read teenagers) OH definitely enjoyed it also took her to Primark to get a few bits (make up brushes mostly)....I really enjoyed this weekend.

In other news I got another salary increase for excellent performance and completing my qualification...which was another 1000 ontop of my 2% which I am very happy and grateful for.. I'll confess I had been expecting more, so I spoke with my manager to discuss what would be expected of me to increase my salary more...I feel like I had to be honest and know what I should be aiming for, to know what the targets are exactly... I feel better for it.

breakfast and lunch made and prepped for tomorrow, how is it Monday already tomorrow?! I think I may add PAD to my challenges which will hopefully will pay off the CC (4K) quicker...death by a thousand cuts and all that...I just want to be debt free darn it...so I can start focusing on my future...this year will hopefully be about moving forward and positive change!!

FPL played today, packaged dropped off and 26 received will pay over to cc tomorrow...

Going to be a busy one at work this week...deadlines so thatll keep me from spending- I havent managed any SFD. Tomorrow seems like a great time to start...Feeling optimistic (new year momentum still going strong)- 78 left till payday....

    Thats all I have tonight...Night all! X

    Monday Ramblings...
    Evening all,

Had a lovely no spend weekend, painting the living room wood work the decorators left...another SFD today (excluding the mini shop in Ald1 17 (budgeted for )

Work was ok, planning a cinema trip tomorrow with a mate, were going to see Jumanji, have already grabbed some cereal bars and fruit to smuggle in, will take a bottle of juice/water too...make it a dirt cheap night out!-6 all in/hopefully help with the weight loss too.

Books Legacy finished, along with the book of tomorrow (Celia Ahern-my fave), now working my way through The secret to attracting money- Jo Vitale & how the make friends & influence people-Dale Carnegie reading challenge seems to be going well at least.

Haven't made much progress on my extra money making- need to work on this. I've paid over the 49.99 extra money earned to the credit card taking my payments up to 1533.56 and the balance down to 3949.27. I'm getting there bit by bit, only few more months to go...then onto savings I guess emergency fund 3-6 months and a deposit (I'm well behind everything- Been too long digging myself into debt) plus side my outgoings can be kept relatively low so Im hoping I can make up some time here even if its a little bit... Perhaps keeping my outgoings to 1000 per month and pocket the rest anyway thats a little to far in the future, I just debt free by the end of March.

Goal 1500 to credit card with January's salary (used for Feb expenses) and live on the rest- occassions upcoming for the month: 1 birthday, 1 valentines day gift (cheap & thoughtful)...2 friends babies due, 1 work night out -just remembered that one damn, budgets gonna need a little tweak now :rotf:

Dry January going well not a drop for 15 days - I cant work out which one I want more now payday to come or January to end! Well enough of my ramblings- (keeps me on the straight(ish) and narrow

First thing I'm going to do when I manage to pay off my debt is a pamper day...Night All X

    Evening All,

Its been a great non-spendy few days, today payday hit, though I hadn't realised it was moved forward, to cushion the long wait from Christmas...bless our thoughtful HR team.

Have paid 1316.33 to the CC, plan to pay another 2 equal amounts in the next 2 months..and will pay anything I can extra towards it to speed it up. I am hoping to get a bonus this year but am working on worst case scenario's for now.

Today I paid over tithe, rent, credit card payment, put aside some for electric and gas bill money (due March), ordered contact lenses (3months) as I had a 10%off voucher (so thought better to bulk buy)..amazing what you can find when you scan old emails, thats taken out my beauty budget for the month. Groceries brought for the week 25.61.

So whats left to do...remaining budget for Jan- Feb18:
    • car tax- 12
    • council tax- 92
    • mobile phone (mum)-12.50
    • mobile phone -14.99
    • groceries- 150.56
    • work drinks- 20
    • gifts- 24.77
    • fun money- 66.40
    • valentines day -30.00

nothing much else to report, just another month of battening down the hatches and trying not to spend too much...I can almost see the finish line of baby step2.

    Afternoon all,

Just checking in to keep focused on this lovely wet Wednesday, enjoying being at work rather than outside in it..hopefully itll slow down by the time the masses leave to go home. Not a nsd today, but was budgeted spend- vday present bought, using part amazon vouchers so physical cash paid 6.25/30 also payment made to CC 1.33, will attempt to do a payment a day to keep up momentum even if its just a pound. Lunch brought in...nothing more to report, guess I should get back to work...have a fab day guys.

    Evening all...

so I've had 3 NSD and had some great news I received my bonus letter from work, I've been awarded the full 15% 6430 so I'm really happy and extremely grateful!!

I will get it in 80% in February's paycheck & 20% in March though ill be taxed 40% &11% NI on it as I've gone over the 40k earnings bracket... reducing my pension deductions earlier this year means I have no buffer from the 40% tax. Speaking with my other half he says that I should put it in my pension to save the tax building up my pension and continue with my current debt plan of paying 1300 in Feb and 1300 in March to clear it.

My suggestion was to keep following Dave Ramsey's baby step plans and take it now even with the tax deducted to clear my debt asap. Then put the remaining 20% (March money) into my pension (tax saving) and boosting my pension contribution to 15% (as Dave suggests) as I'll be debt free then concentrating on my 6 month emergency fund (5k) and house deposit. Id rather pay off the debt asap but I do understand where hes coming from...Any advice here would be greatly appreciated please guys as I'm torn.

Another quiet weekend though welcomed this week as I'm shattered OH and pals are doing DIY all I can hear is @%$! so all going well I guess worried to see what damaged they've caused. X

Found out what the noise was all about..they put the tv on the wall and part of the wall come off...oh well they did try this flat is falling apart...TV is still in tact and will sit on the coffee table until we find something passable and have some spare money to do it...as for the wall I'm sure OH will think of something.

Rechecking Dave Ramsey's steps I had it wrong, 1) 1000 Emergency fund, 2) pay off all debts then 3)3-6 month emergency fund (5k in my case) 3b)the home deposit & then 4)15% of income into pension. so that's what ill do, its a long trek and I'm behind but better later than never.

    Plans for the week:
Food shopping- aim is to get all we need for the week 25-(planning needed).
Budget for the next few months (update YNAB) to include new goals and true expenses.
Work do- keep spend to 20 (max)
bring lunch to work (zero spend on snacks)
    Exercise 3 times
    5SFD's
Research on frugal living and saving tips.

    Sx

Evening All (assuming someone other than me reads this)

So today was a good day, work was good I spent an hour at lunch updating my Ynab to make it more realistic for my goals...Was busy and half my team were off so was a busy one and I just knuckled down and got on with things. Took advantage of an audio book for company as I concentrated and worked my way through.

Not a sfd today, forgot lunch- completely my own thought this one- 2.99 spend there then paid over 10 to CC as penance.
Did an exercise class with my work colleagues, it was challenging (as I haven't exercised in a long time) but it was also really fun...our teacher (another colleague was amazing, encouraging and motivating)- I enjoyed it, perhaps not at the time (it was tough) but after I felt fab, Am really happy she ran the class & I had the good sense to attend.

Came home to empty flat so enjoyed a long bath and a lush bath bomb...OH back now on the PS4 so im thinking an early-ish night for me...felt good to do something different. I have around 2 stone to lose but am happy I took a step towards it today. Need to exercise another 2 times this week...thinking running or fitness dvd..free & cheerful abit harder to do alone though.

Didn't manage the shopping tonight but OH brought back milk, chicken, beer, and cake...his essentials & at least he got milk, I can have a cuppa in the morning..bless him..I'll pop out tomorrow but should probably do a proper stock check first...maybe Wednesday then..Am thinking to keep up with the no drinking thing for a little longer. At least till I shift the weight and debt, I dont know... Overall it was a good day...a fun day...hope tomorrow is just as good, if not better maybe ill score a nsd.

Hope everyone else had a good one...Night x

Hey Shelbi, I'm still reading! You are doing SO well - I'm really impressed! You really seem to have changed your mentality towards spending and I am DELIGHTED that you'll be getting such a good bonus. And well done on working out your priorities for clearing debt/emergency fund/house deposit, etc.

Every time I read you seem to be having a low or no-spend day - you are going great guns. Do you feel like your budget is sustainable in the long-term? I don't want you to suddenly have a spluge after months of denying yourself things, but you sound so sorted that hopefully you won't!

Well done again and keep going!

    Hi Magpie100

Thank you for popping in...honestly it really helps to know im not talking to myself (not that thats ever stopped me )

THANK YOU! honestly any change in mindset was down to you guiding me to have more determination, It made me extra determined to see this thing through to the end and clear the debts

I realy am grateful to you and all the other kind MSE'ers who popped in and gave me such great advice and encouragement...Its really helped. This is such a lovely forum.

Was super excited about my bonus but mostly I was just trying to keep my job secured so I worked extra hard, It paid off... this year am going to try and do even better.

I dont think my budget is sustainable in the long term as Ive cut down going out and shopping massively usually opting to stay home though for the months of March onwards Im going to give myself 150 budget for socialising/fun money whilst I save so hopefully that'll help keep me on the straight and narrow.

I cant thank you enough for pointing me in the right direction and challenging me to keep the course it was exactly what I needed...Thank you!!!...To you
