If you haven't paid enough NICs can you still be placed in the Support Group of CB ESA?

    No.

There are two types of ESA - contribution based and income based.

When you apply for ESA you will receive either contribution based ESA (based on NI contributions) or income based ESA or contribution based ESA with an income based top up.

If you haven't paid enough NICs then you cannot claim contribution based ESA.

It is only after this first stage that you are assessed and put into the WRAG or Support Group.
