You seem to be happy with Avro's service since joining them in Feb 17, so I thought I would run my problem on switching past you for your thoughts.

I only looked at Club Energy's website after I had agreed a 12 m fix with SOE, my current supplier, because their Standing Charge is enormous. (Avro's SC is a lot cheaper and so are their unit charges for gas and elec.) I fixed with SOE on 30 November 17 so I am still within the 14 days cooling-off.

What I would like to ask is whether I should send my details by email to Avro or phone them to ask whether they can switch me in time, which is limited as my contract with SOE ends on 4 Jan 2018.

I would phone rather than email, as they took a couple of days for first reply to my email query but were quicker on my follow up question.

Thanks very much for your response badger09, helping me to decide the approach to take. I read all the notes on their website where they say it takes 21 days - of course the holiday period will certainly affect my application. I did however send them an email today, giving them my position with SOE and asking whether:

    1. they can make the switch given the limited time available - by 5 January 18; and
    2. I should make the switch first and they will take care of the rest.

Perhaps with the rush of people all switching, they might miss my email so perhaps you're right. I'll talk to them.

Many thanks for your advice. I guess it's too late today ....

I have been with Avro for around 16 months now.. Always found them very good and very helpful. I like the way they offered me a great deal to stay when my contract was coming to an end. Pay by DD (more than double what I need to due to my choice) get cash back from them within days of asking; get cashback from the bank account the DD goes from. Nice Xmas boost will arrive in the next 3 days, just like a savings club...Happy Days..well done Avro; Five Stars from me!....

This is the 1-star review I just submitted to Trustpilot's site:
I think I've just had something of a lucky escape with Avro; I chose them from Money Saving Expert's Cheap Energy Club because of a slew of "positive" feedback and was told the switch would be completed mid-November.
I'm currently with Sainsbury's Energy and, since their customer service has been excellent, I may well sign up for another year with them, even if I pay an extra £5 or so a month...

    AVRO Energy
Been with them 12 months happily paying my monthly fee thinking that i was covered...NOOOOO just checked my account and they have estimated my usage way above what i had actually used (despite meter readings) they had assumed that my 3 bed house was a family and not just me, they have just informed me that i now owe them £900 for electricity that i had not used!! On phoning them they admitted something had gone wrong and recalculated that i now owe £373.. There mistake i had put my yearly usage in from my previous company's bill and nothing has changed over the year but according to Avro I should have been paying more than they first quoted me !! sucked me in with a low monthly payment and now have to pay the extra!! they also inform me that I cannot change supplier until debt is payed now paying twice the amount first quoted a year ago to pay off debt. I will be moving from them as quick as possible... I should have stayed with my previous company would have payed more a month but at least they knew what they were doing and i would not now be in debt!!!! My advice stay clear!!!

I have no problems after 18 months but then I would not wait a year until checking my account. Things can go wrong with any company as this forum shows. The onus is very much on the consumer to check that they are paying enough each month and when switching if the amount of the DD is lower than you were paying before then you need to check that the correct usage has been estimated. In Avro's case this can be found on the monthly bills.

    Coastalwatch switch to Avro.
I signed up with Avro on Sunday 19th November for their 12 month fixed tariff, Simple and Super. Received a welcome pack that day and asking that I check/confirm both gas and electricity meter point numbers, which I did on the 21st. Received an acknowledgement and thanks two days later on the 23rd. Received an email from the existing supplier on 24th Nov saying they were sorry to see us go etc. Avro have given us notice that they will commence supplying our energy on 20th December understanding that our first DD will be on 10th. So all proceeding as expected to date. Will update again once switch is complete.

For me things are not going so smoothly.

At the time of switch they didn't ask for meter readings. I submitted them anyway. They got ignored, and not passed on to previous supplier.

Time of first bill just passed and no bill produced.

I'll give it a few days - I want to see the first bill before I contact them.

    Avro? More like Agro!
So, as my previous energy supplier is coming to an end, I go for a tariff comparison and Avro come out on top.
Sign up and receive a switch over date for the end of October.
Today, however, I discover only my Electricity has been transferred and my gas is still with my previous supplier!!
On contacting Avro (after a 15 minute wait to speak to a human then a further 7 minute wait when I advise said human of my problem), Iím told they want to check the MPN number on my gas meter. I ask where this is (on hold again) and told itís on my statement/ bill from previous supplier.
    Everyone does paperless now, right?
So after unsuccessfully locating MPN Iím advised the switch has now been carried out manually and Avro will take over on 3rd January 2018 DESPITE them taking payments for supplying Gas they donít even supply!
Asked to go through to complaints department to which I get informed complaints have to be made in writing to ďthe complaints departmentĒ
So, email sent, previous supplier contacted and asked if I can go back with a cracking deal. Just waiting to see if they are going to throw charges at me now for cancelling a non compliant contract!
As a previous forum thread read, reel you in with good prices but can not supply the goods/ service!
Fingers crossed I can get back to a long standing well known faithful supplier!

Was a customer with Avro and left them in early September. Am still waiting for the outstanding credit to be refunded from Avro, as it is now well over their 8 week timeframe for repayments- which seems long anyway. Customer service is very slow to respond. Will not be going back to them

    Update from me

Switched both Gas & Electricity from EDF on 30th November. Avro & EDF have taken DDs as expected 20th October & 20th November.

Final bill received from EDF 15th December and refund credited yesterday.

Final bill for gas agrees my reading; bill for electricity is estimated because I entered an extra digit in my reading Entirely my fault, and estimate is within a couple of units of the correct figure.

Next hurdle will be to submit correct readings for 1st bill and make sure Avro start with same figures as EDF ended with.

This I did and was subsequently emailed three days later asking to provide updated readings which I also did. So all progressed on schedule. So far, so good. Thanks Avro.

    So far so good
Switched to AVRO after horrendous experience with British Gas. BG contrived to completely destroy my account keeping and used some accounting procedures and arithmetic that are not from this planet and were certainly not based on our usual base10.
Had a few small issues with AVRO's response but I believe they got swamped by very large numbers of users switching from the likes of BG; one of the downsides of collective switching. Since then have received excellent service from AVRO. They respond to emails, resolve issues quickly and their statements are to be admired. The statements are clear, concise and well presented. Let us hope this continues. Almost forgot, that they are good value for money on my current tarriff!

Please AVOID. Keep to a company you know and one that is trusted.

This is by far the WORST company in the world. A lot of fake reviews on here sadly trying to hide the negative ones. Their team is working hard to create fake profiles to increase their positive score. Please do not use.

My experience. I moved into my property. Previous occupants did not pay any bills. The bill were in her name. Avro energy blocked my move to British Gas and on enquiring I was told there was debt at the property. I have proved that we moved in on a date in November. I have a bill from then which I have paid yet told I am also liable for previous persons bill which I have not seen. Told by the rudest customer service person with no training or legal qualification that as debt is at property I have to pay as they are now seeking disconnection. Totally illegal to force someone else to pay another's bill. Legal advice being sought and next step is suing for extortion since I have no debt at Avro and am being held to ransom. Disgusting to threaten a family with disconnection at Christmas. PLEASE AVOID and sign up to a company with training for staff and one which knows the law and abides by common practices.

Sadly it is nearly 2 weeks and no contact from the cowards at Avro Energy so if you have a complaint they do not respond and will not help. NO customer service here.

I have taken legal advise and will be suing AVRO Energy for abuse, threats and extortion. I will be using the press as well to highlight our story.

I've been an MSE forum user for over 5 years, longer than Avro Energy has been in business.

During that time I've made over 5500 posts, most of which were considered useful, and none of which was 'fake'.

Make sure you don't name me in your "fake reviewer" list Boeingboy! I'm on no ones backhander list and speak it as I see it.

Maybe you think AVRO paid me to be scathing about BG too? I need no one to pay me for that .... they caused me headaches in nearly every month for 2 years.

Here's a classic today from BG. Two months after switching away from them, and several weeks after settling the final bills with them, a letter dropped through the letterbox today from BG. Briefly they said they have made a mistake with my payment plan and they are going to compensate me with £10 by cheque.

I was intrigued and rang them, after 20 minutes and much consulting with colleagues, they could not tell me what the mistake was they made, or why they were going to compensate me with £10. They do not think I owe any money or they owe me any money and they can't figure out what generated the letter. Absolute typical classic from BG!

Apart from a wry laugh at their expense, at least I should get £10 out of it ...... or will I? Maybe they made a mistake about making a mistake and that's the last I'll here of it

Back to AVRO .... still no complaints from me.

Following advice from the Cheap Energy Club, I switched from British Gas to Avro in October 2017 dual fuel, monthly direct debit, and I have to say that the whole operation was textbook-perfect. Avro notified me of the sequence of events that would occur, and both Avro and BG did everything they should exactly when promised. I did my bit by providing meter readings when required, Avro started collecting their payments when they said they would, and BG refunded unused parts of my last DD payment as promised. Full marks to BG, Avro and the Club!

My change over from B G went smoothly. It is so straightforward switching. Remember to send in your meter readings. I only had to call them to increase my direct debit and I waited about 13 mins to get through on the phone.
Very happy with Avro B G refunded the credit on my account very quickly.

Mine didn't go smoothly - it took me time and effort to get things sorted out. I think I am about there now.

They did not switch on the day they said
They ignored my opening meter readings
They agreed estimated readings with previous supplier
They didn't produce a bill until prompted some weeks after it was due.

Also their website is basically functional, but a little lacking.

Presumably my different experience is because they realised I was a long term member here so they thought they would treat me worse than the new posters ;-)

When I have time I will be moving away.
