    Hello,
I been reading debt free diaries and mortgage free diaries since the summer and I have been hugely inspired and reassured my dreams are achievable.

My husband was significantly in debt until 2 1/2 years ago through a failing business during the recession. Due to having equity in our home I was able (had to) to re-mortgage and pay off the debts. that's the simple version anyway.

During the time when my husbands income was negligible we had a lodger. Unfortunately those basement rooms require about 5K worth of work and are currently unlettable. I hope either to save this money by the spring, or maybe withdraw some capital from my husbands small pensions. He gets about £200 pcm plus £800 wage. He has his own debt to pay until June next year, then I gain £120 to go towards the mortgage.

I have a fairly good job and have always worked extra hours. My husband is working in a job on minimum wage. After many money related traumas and battles our relationship is fantastic.

My aim is to retire at 55 if I can. I am going to go hell for leather to make this happen. We trimmed our expenses years ago. We have the occasional slip up and overspend in fact this year has been an overspend on some big items whist shopping at lld1.

We have recently registered with airbnb to increase our income and may soon break even from initial outlay.

    Sold house March 2018

    Savings
    Rainy day £2000

    Short term goals
Buy new home, pay down mortgage to < £100k by end of fixed deal June 2019 (looking less likely as spent 10 weeks in temporary accommodation)
    NEW HOME page 32

    KEY DATES
Can access work pension 2025 (55 years)
Have very small £2k private pension to close 2025
DH state pension 2025, plus current pension of £200 pcm
DH shares can be accessed from June 2020 and 2021but aim to cash them 2025
    my state pension 2037
    Official mortgage end 2030

    Mortgage OP
    June 2018 OP £278. 68
    June 30th OP £200.00 = £478.68
    July 2nd OP £34.14 = ££512.82

Long term savings shares/ISA (without interest/growth)
    Me
    July 2018 £100 & £143
    August 2018 £100 =£343
    September 2018 +£100 = £443

    OH
    June 2018 £1200 + £200 = £140
    July 2018 +£200 = £1600
    August +£200 = £1800
    September +£200 =£2000

yes exciting times, I feel free

missing Mrs has signed documents so we are all processing forwards

Because I'm porting the mortgage I will only have to pay £1k not £5k ERC, this however has been kept behind until the process is complete. Well I hope so anyway as I received £1k in my bank yesterday as a mortgage refund I really hope its as well as, and not a replacement of the £4k i was expecting.

The tiny apartment is not too bad when we have work to keep us out of it but not so great when we babysit

OHs birthday this week end, i've another long day to do tomorrow before I'm off again.

trying not to spend too much money has been quite difficult due to being my husbands birthday yesterday... 10 pin bowling for 5... a meal for 5 (in hungry horse) .... alcohol in pub... luckily we came back to our "quarters" around 8pm so watched some Netflix on DD2s account.. giving us has password is her contribution to our household

He wants me to pay his club membership fees for his birthday, so that''ll be another £60 x2 as he wants me to join in too... (crown green bowls) It's not something I've done much of but it will be a thing together and fresh air and exercise.

I'll leave it until mid week before contacting solicitors to update on house news. I can't wait to get cracking on the mortgage.

Yes newgirly, a whirlwind. We've been here 2 1/2 weeks now. this is the first time to relax. I will phone solicitor this week to nudge things forward but we are not doing to bad.

I would comment on daily spends but it would be terrible. , Sunday Lunch £10 for 3 plus dessert from Icelad (Lamb shanks microcwave) and today , sausage and frozen mash £3.50 for 3... so saving is normal for us. Erm Sunday to Tuesday add wine and beer

I've arranged catch up with a couple of friends that I've not seen for ages this week...

been to play crown green bowls today with other half. yay. He let me start all of the throws but I wasn't completely annihilated.

    Tired of waiting
The novelty of being homeless is wearing thin. I'm planning to phone estate agents shortly then solicitors to broach the subject of a date.

Payday today and not much to shuffle. The snooze cc needs paying with my OH wages tmrw. Then paid in full with erc refund.
The other side of that is not much to spend either

Does redirected mail all arrive at once? We haven't had any mail for a week
I have a growing to do list, with top of the list completing on the house . Hmmmm that is sort of out of my control.

I've been planning for a while to restart my s&s ISA, my neglected account has grown from £90 to £130 in the last 4 years or so doing nothing. Imagine if I actually increased the balance

Ate my dinner from the store/fridge yesterday. Frozen cauli and broccoli Bombay potatoes will have extra portions today. OH went the chippy but at least he paid for his own

Definitely not as planned busy mee, but thank heaven we got out and allowed our buyers to get in,, phew

4 night at work tonight. at least I've had NSDs
Will sleep tomorrow morning than back to day shift Tuesday... not impressed as I have been rostered onto alternate 14 hr days...

Wednesday can't come soon enough.. solicitors, S&S ISA , hopefully a check from SP to pay in from an energy complaint.

I've booked my self a personal trainer.. not cheap but it may stop me complaining I'm too fat. I'm 5'2" so 20-30 lbs extra is a lot once a week sessions coupled with home exercise plan and nutritional plan. Now I know I won't achieve this before my holiday in May but it might just get me motivated to continue. The trainer is a young person ( under 30 ) who I work with and she has retrained to earn from her hobby which is bodybuilding... she has an amazing figure , I'm well past that but I need to change my body back to what it used to be.

    April goals
Move into new house (???date )
    Have new mortgage
pay off stooze cc with ERC refund
    S&S ISA recommence payments
all the jiggery pokery with utilities and BB
    Exercise like a demon

woke up in a grump... i say woke up , but reality is poor sleep switching from nights to days, coupled with my husband has a cold sniffing and coughing interspersed with snoring... to top the night off, his clock radio he has bought to listen to talk sport went off at 7am (oh for a lie in) ... that's the 3rd time it happened twice previously at midnight. GRRR . he doesn't switch it off at the mains so he doesn't have to re-programme it...

Still waiting on the SPower cheque. redirected mail has only arrived twice. A batch the first week and 1 letter since... I don't get huge amounts through the post but a lot less than normal , even missing junk mail

Personal trainer day.. woo hoo, I've worked with one of the girls she has trained this weekend who was walking very oddly. I'm sure tomorrow I will be aching a bit ..

No house news. I will phone solicitors later .. keeping fingers crossed

Solicitors have told me the delay now is there is now no energy performance certificate with the property and they cannot progress further without one. I told the estate agents what I thought about their poor performance in arranging this house for sale. The house has been on the market since October and our offer was accepted 9 days after we put it in in early February .
She was saying it was the owners fault, and of course it is, however surely it should actually be legally able to be sold before they put the thing on the market and arrange viewing and offers?...

Anyhow my rant seems to have worked , they have phoned my OH to tell him they have managed to get hold of the seller and the EPC will be done today.

We are due to check out of these rooms next Friday , I think I had better book a few more weeks

That's crazy - I thought they had to have one which was within a certain period. (We had to have one to put our BTL property to rent with all the lettings agents I spoke to) Only good thing is that they turn them around quite quickly, in my experience

Hopefully you can get some real progress soon x

    thanks Greent and Brizzle,
My rant did work and we now have and potential exchange of contracts date for 16th April with completion hopefully 23rd April :

This being a Monday I finish work at 4am, So hotel (hopefully ) to sleep until mid morning then OH can fill the car with all of our smaller things. I will leave it until nearer the time However rough ideas would be to move the big stuff on the Tuesday, but I may be too impatient

My work friend has heard me talk regularly about sensible financing. A few weeks ago when I was wittering abouts rates, OPing and time scales, she asked me about her mortgage. she had never remortgaged. Over the last 2 years she has paid down CC debt after my "horror" at her spending she has been able to secure a new deal at less than half her interest rate for 5 years and now plans a mortgage free date in 8 years , 4 years earlier , every little helps

On the countdown for completion 20th April and aiming to move in 23rd April. a week on Monday

Just waiting now for quote from removal company. They can fit us in time wise but they need to figure cost... I never realised it would be so difficult. one company out of area was 1 bedroom house £100, 2 bedroom house £200 3 bedroom house £300.. you get the picture but I thought someone more local would help the local workforce..

Money seems to be dripping out of my hands.. OH was a bit unhappy yesterday when his bank card was rejected... although he'd checked his balance in the morning the previous days purchases had not been added.... I was with him so able to pay, however I had promised him a lump sum, bye bye £500. Looking after little GD in our rooms is tedious, went to the shops and £4.50 for a children's magazine.. What a rip off (although for an hours peace worth it). coupled with DD1 wanting me to pick up a party gift for her friends little one for £15 and I spent £20... The good spends were on house deposit and solicitors fees ( boo stamp duty)

Managed to catch up with my sister who is home from the middle east... extended family issues have been very worrisome however may also have gone off boil as quickly as they arose... did have a couple of lovely meals out.

I have had one personal training session but we can't get a time together this week. luckily DD2 wants to lose a few lbs and has been coming with me to a local pay weekly place. I have bought a Groupon deal for £19 for village hotels, I will activate that when we return from holiday in May.

ooo nearly there , well keeping fingers crossed still for a smooth week ahead.

I've had a lazy morning, well restful so far .... OH seems a little sulky, I'm not looking forward to spending the afternoon with him with sour chops... He says he alright but I can feel my impatience rising ... his phone data has run out "how can it?" "erm you use it and you asked me that last month"

However as everything is in my name it would be me who phones to increase his contract data. I've told him to log onto our portable Wifi for now,

Quick visit from southern sister Friday, She went home yesterday.

I can't wait until we can be frugal again, bulk buy, batch cook... today dinner is (Mr M) 4 lamb steaks £4.60 , large frozen Yorkshire to split 3 ways 40p, broccoli 50p tinned peas 23p , 35p stuffing, potatoes to saute in our one pot cooker. lemon drizzle muffins 4 for £1.... where we are is busy of a weekend to drive to lidl or @ldi we would have lost our parking space and spent on fuel. Buying a fabulous roast dinner where we are staying would cost a lot more.

Won £10 on sweep yesterday, and found a £20 note... treated colleagues to a costa also bought strawberries 50p per punnet... very lovely
