3-6 Month Emergency Fund Challenge!! 20th Oct 15 at 8:30 AM
    Morning Everyone....

I have been wondering for MONTHS now about what would happen if there was some kind of Emergency....I am self-employed and also starting a new Business which will also be on a self-employed basis....so I will never get holiday pay or sick pay....although I AM hoping to maybe get an employed Job but that would only be for a couple of days a Week so it won't cover me completely if something were to happen....

My health is not wonderful at the moment, and hasn't been for a while, but I'm going to start trying to lose Weight once I've moved Flats (which I'm doing this Weekend!!).

So the point of this Challenge is to save up at least 3 month's worth of wages....that can be a different amount for each person....and some people might want to save up to 6 months if they are feeling ambitious!!

Me personally, I want to save 3 months worth of wages which for me will be 6000.

Now, there is ABSOLUTELY NO TIME LIMIT on this Challenge...in fact I suspect it could take me Years to get to the point of having 3 months wages as Savings....For now I can only afford 5 per week but as my new Business builds up (hopefully!!) then I should be able to afford more.

This Thread is mainly for us all to encourage each other to keep on Saving and to celebrate when we reach milestones, however large or small they may be.....Like for me, when I get to having 500 I will be ecstatic!!

I also wanted to say that if at any time an emergency crops up and you need to use your Fund and then start again then please don't worry about doing that.....It's what the Emergency Fund is there for after all....

I don't like having Savings in the Bank as I get too tempted to spend them so I'm going to invest in a Terramundi to put my Savings into at least at first......but other's may choose to use their Bank Accounts or a Tin from Poundworld...or stuff it under your Mattress!!

Sooooo.....Here we go.....I'll add the names below as people Join....xXx

Well, I've been really naughty and need to remove some money out of mums fund.

I was passing a pet shop while walking into the Barbican with bf & pup on saturday. There was a sign in the window. Full tortoise set up & tortoise for 320. I've never owned a tortoise but always wanted one. I popped in to look at them on the way back, big mistake as I then of course had to put a deposit down.
Luckily mum doesn't know my plans to pay her off early!
Bf isn't too keen on having a tortoise, but is happy it's keeping me happy he said he will have nothing to do with it, but I have already tasked him with building a raised wildflower bed in the yard for it to run around in

Please reduce my total to 282.05/3000

Aw, this is too cute raphael.

When will the tortoise be joining you at home?
And have you considered a name yet?

Although you've been a little bit naughty with the funds, I can understand why.....you cannot always wonder what if, so if it's something you wanted for a long time then I think it's quite acceptable.

    #2 Update.

Another 130 added today taking my new total to 4502.13 aka 50.02%.

I know this is stating the obvious but I'm back up to half way

Keep on keeping on.....it really is worth it when you see it reach the milestones no matter how small they are

If its was a boy, he was of course going to be named Raphael. But she turned out to be a girl. I was tempted to call her Kebab, as that's what I had to buy bf to sweeten the deal.
Friend suggested Donna (as in Doner kebab), which also fits the Ninja Turtle theme (Dona-tello)
    So shes been dubbed Donna

She hasn't eaten the last few days (they get a little stressed and stubborn when their homes are rearranged) but she tucked into some leaves today, so she's settling in well.

Sorry if the pic is too big, I've never worked out how to re-size

I love a 5 friday month. My budgetting covers my bills over 4 weeks wages, so it's basically an extra wage packet.
Shoved the entire thing into Mums fund.
    Total now 871.63/3000.
I'm aiming to round it up to 1000 by the end of the month, should be doable if I don't buy Donna a friend she's doing well by the way, eating like a queen and piling on the grams

    Hi

Hope everyone is keeping warm and healthy, the lighter days are coming and it makes such a difference to how we all feel i think

Please add 50 for this week

Well ive had my council tax bill drop through the letter box this week so with the increase in that, the water and gas thats nearly 40 a month extra - think this savings lark gets harder all the time!

Never mind we just keep plodding along eh helen

    Have a good week everyone
