Finally got it to verify my email, then got this message:

"We’re currently working our way through long lists to get Supercards out to as many people as possible. Unfortunately this means that we aren’t able to get a card to you right now, but we will keep in touch about Supercard and to let you know when cards come available."

Painful, painful, painful. Every stage of registration has a problem. Still not finished.

Reading the T&C, it's full of things that make me want to run away fast:

3.6 You remain responsible for any fees, transactions, use or misuse of the Supercard requested by You.
    by Supercard.io
So I'm responsible for fraud? Or just misuse caused by me?

5.2 We will be entitled to assume that a payment transaction has been initiated and authorised by You where either:

    5.2.1 the magnetic strip on the Supercard was swiped by the retailer or the Supercard was inserted into a chip & PIN device;
5.2.2 the Supercard PIN was entered or a sales slip was signed; or
5.2.3 relevant information was supplied to the retailer that allows them to process the transaction, for example providing the retailer with the 3-digit security code on the back of Your Supercard in the case of an internet or other non-face-to-face transaction.
So someone steals my magstripe info and signs a slip Mr M. Mouse and I'm liable?

12.1 If You lose Your Supercard or it is stolen or damaged please notify Us immediately by calling Us on UK: 02035030945 or International (+44) 08435065244 in accordance with Condition 15 of this Agreement. You will be asked to provide Your 9 Digit Account number and other information to verify that You are the authorised cardholder. Following satisfactory completion of the verification process, We will then immediately block any lost or stolen Supercard to prevent unauthorised use and cancel any damaged Supercard to prevent further use.
12.3 If We believe You have acted fraudulently, or if We believe You have intentionally or with gross negligence failed to keep Your Supercard or its details safe at all times, We will hold You liable for all transactions and any associated fees.
12.4 Other than in the exceptions stated in Condition 12.3, We will limit Your liability to £50 for any unauthorised transactions, where You have notified Us in accordance with Condition 12.1.
So I get mugged while abroad, and I'm liable for all transactions until such time as I wake up in hospital and manage to call a UK number (that I won't remember) and quote my 9 digit account number (that I won't remember)? Or will this backdate, so £50 in total?

15.4 If, having exhausted Our complaints procedure and You remain unhappy, You may escalate your complaint to the Financial Services Commission, PO Box 940, Suite 3, Ground Floor, Atlantic Suites, Europort Avenue, Gibraltar. Tel +350 200 40283, Fax +350 200 40282, e-mail: psdcomplaints@fsc.gi, web: www.fsc.gi.
So if I have a problem I have no recourse to the UK FOS, I have to rely on the regulator in Gibraltar?

Essentially by having this card you no longer have Section 75 (etc) protection because your card company is just paying a debit to Supercard, and then you're relying on the flimsier protection of Supercard. It's a licence for Supercard to take out money from your credit card with much less protection than you'd normally get when travelling abroad.

    12.3 suggests not.

It supports the case for sticking with a specific UK card.

I have a Clarity card. Think I'll pass on this pilot scheme until its well tested. Couldnt jeopardise the annual holiday this summer for a few pounds saving. Hope it works and if it does I'll use it next year.

It says there is a £2 fee for uk ATM withdrawals. However if its linked to my credit card which is 0% purchase.. Can I not just use it as a low cost stoozing method...or are there other fees i havent factored in?

I have applied but the saving vs Clarity isn't huge right now so for my situation I'd rather stick with the credit card terms.

I would absolutely change if this gets a good rep - well I say change but rather I'd just add it to my overseas wallet - yes I have one and yes I'm proud to admit it haha.

UPDATE: 13 May 2015, 9.40am: Travelex is struggling to cope with demand from traffic due to our weekly email. If the site doesn't respond, try again in a while. We will update you with any more news here as soon as we get it.

    scratch that.. just noticed this:

    6.7
"Your Supercard can be used in the UK for point-of-sale transactions or ATM transactions only if You have a UK debit card as Your Registered Card. If your Registered Card is a credit card, Your Supercard will not work in the UK. Using Your Supercard in the UK will attract additional fees (please see the Fees and Charges above at Condition 4 for further details)."

MSE staff tweets are almost boasting that MSE fans have swamped this website.

Meanwhile, someone who registered there two months ago for further info never received an email about the imminent launch.

For prepaid debit cards it's a mystery why MSE staff have never mentioned a certain other one without loading in any currency, but preferred two others which do charge a margin.

I had assumed that Travelex were preparing a soft launch for the card, gathering contact info and launching gradually. If I were preparing a soft launch, I certainly wouldn't launch it on MSE without ensuring sufficient resources for processing.

Anyway, I persisted and finally got the message that my card is on its way.
