LullaBelle's long road to being debt free! 26th Feb 15 at 4:39 PM
    Hi everyone,

I have taken the brave step to write my own debt free diary. I have spent a few years reading everyone else's and promising myself that I will take advice from them. So finally here I am. I am 30 years old and in too much debt. It is all down to stupidity and buying things I cannot afford. My husband is not great either but I am doing this diary just for me and my debts. I will spend time later working out my SOA.

    For now by debts are:

    Barclaycard: 5411.41
    Car Loan: 8332.84
    Overdraft: 450
    Total: 14194.25

Seeing it all wrote down is scary!! So my plan is to have as many no spend days as possible and sell what I can on ebay, gumtree etc.

So here goes.... my first step towards becoming debt free...
    Virgin 4892.50/ 4680
    Loan 16587.87/15722.31
    Sofa 1100 / 817.44 DH Virgin 6550 /5973.20
    Barclaycard 5411.41/0
    DH Halifax 413.77 /0 Overdraft 450/0
    Total 35405.55/ 27192.95

    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday was my 1st NSD in a while. I need to do a food shop today. I hurt my back last night so not able to move much today. So I have wrote a list and sending DH to do the shopping tonight. I just have to make sure that he sticks to the list and doesn't spend any more than necessary!

I had plans to get up into the attic today to find some stuff to sell but I'll have to put that off until my back is better. I'm trying to make any extra I can to pay more off the loan this month. According to the snowball calculator we could be debt free by October 2022 if I pay 40 a month extra off the loan. I want to try and pay more than that so we could possibly be debt free by December 2021. Here goes...

    Hi,

So yesterday I turned 34. The day was a total write off money wise. We went out for dinner and drinks and spent too much money for my liking! I got some vouchers for my birthday so they will save me a good bit of money over the next few months. We are off to the cinema now to see Mamma Mia. We booked online so we could use a discount code. We are bringing our own snacks too... 3.40 for a bag of sweets is crazy!

    Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend !!!55357;!!!56832;

    hello,

I got a letter from Santander about the loan last week. Last month I paid an additional 40 off it. The loan was due to finish on 17/04/2023. By paying 40 off it, it has now changed to 03/04/2023. So that is 2 weeks earlier. I am going to carry on paying as much as I can off it every month. I am aiming for a DFD of December 2022 for now. Anything earlier than that would be even better!

Not much else happening with me. I am aiming to spend as little as possible this week and hope to have a very quiet weekend. I am hoping DH finally gets round to selling our 2nd car this week too. We are either going to pay it off the loan or get new internal doors for the house. Our house is all open planned downstairs and it is a nightmare to heat in the winter. We spent a fortune on oil last year. if we get doors we will be able to just heat the room we are using so would save us a fortune on oil. I just need to get some prices as I have no idea how much this would cost. If it is more than we get for the car then we won't be able to afford it. We will see ;-)

    Happy Saturday everyone,

I just got my husband to check his credit card. He pays by direct debit every month and doesn't use the card so doesn't check his statement. He logged on and realised his balance is lower than we thought! It's 126.80 less. Nice wee surprise for a Saturday.

This will be a no spend weekend. I had to buy a loaf of bread this morning but that's it. I have dinner planned for tonight. We are out for dinner with family tomorrow so won't be spending any money tomorrow either.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend x

    hi everyone,

Not much happening with me in the way of debt busting this month. I am patiently waiting on pay day again. Only 2 more weeks to go. I am so sick of being broke the last 2 weeks of the month. Last month was my birthday and we went out for dinner and drinks. It has made me realise that we simply cannot afford to do this. It means we struggle the rest of the month.

I have 40 left in my current account to last 2 weeks. Out of this I should only need food shopping. I am not going to food shop this week and only use what I have in the freezer/cupboards. I still have 140 in my savings account but I am really hoping I won't have to use it.

I listed a perfume set on facebook over a month ago and heard nothing from anyone. I had someone message me to ask if it is still available and could they collect it on Friday. So if that goes through then I will have another 20 coming my way. I am going to have to get up into the attic and look for other things to sell. I really don't think I have anything of much value though.

I know it's only August but I am going to try and get organised for Christmas early this year. I am trying to save up my rewards points to use against presents. So far I have:

    B00ts: 10.05
    Sains: 1.50
    Tesco: 25
    Superdrug 1.20

So by Christmas I'll have a bit there that could possibly get me some presents. I bought some stuff in the January sales and have put them away for Christmas too. So I am well ahead of the game this year!

    Hi everyone,

Still not much to report in the way of debt busting. I am patiently waiting on payday. Just 9 more days to go. I'm hoping to have the debts below 27k then. The girl didn't turn up on Friday for my perfume set I was selling. She is supposed to come this Friday so fingers crossed. There is something on in our local community on Saturday so that 18 could go towards spending money there.

I really need to start clearing out the house to find some more stuff to sell. I am starting to worry about the lack of savings we have for Christmas. if I could make even 100 before then by selling anything I can then that would at least get the presents for my daughter sorted. I just need a free day to myself to gut the house. That could be the plan for this weekend.

    Morning,

I started looking for eBay stuff last night. I only got round to listing 1 thing which already has a bid on it so I'll hopefully have that money by the weekend. I'll get more time tonight to search for more stuff. I feel the selling bug is back!

    Hi everyone,

I have set myself a challenge to make 100 by the end of August. I have just had a big clear out upstairs. I have found lots of stuff suitable for eBay or a boot sale. I just have to get listing now! I have 1 thing on eBay at the minute. Current bid is 13.50 and it ends tonight. I'm hoping the girl comes for my perfume set tomorrow. That will be another 18. So, so far I have made 31.50/100. I'm not going to use the 100 for debt repayments. I'm going to use the money for Christmas. I always used my credit card for Christmas but I don't have that option this year. No more credit for me! So that means I need to save as much as I can.

I have had a really productive day so far. I have stew in the slow cooker which I am going to divide into portions and freeze. I've also got Bolognese on too. I'm on a roll today!

Since you have mentioned Sainsburys I assume you mean saving nectar points. Did you know that you can do surveys for nectar points. They run e-rewards and you get paid in points that you redeem as nectar points. It says by invitation only but as a Nectar card holder you are 'invited'.

    https://www.nectar.com/brands/e-rewards

Most surveys are 200-ish and you need 1000 to redeem. I rarely make less than the equivalent of 5-10 per week and I only do them as and when. Don't wait for them to email you though - keep an email from them and go via the link on there and it will take you to an available survey. If the site then says there are no more, try the link from the email again as it often provides more that way.
    Hope it helps.

Thanks joeyjimbles for the tip. I'll definitely have a look at that. It will all go towards my Christmas spending money.

I made 13.50 On eBay yesterday. It is currently in my PayPal account still but I'm thinking I will transfer it to my bank and withdraw it and put it into my sealed tin. I think I will have about 60 in the tin so far.

Our electric bill arrived today... 101. I think it's quite expensive seeing as we have been using minimal electric over the summer. I must be doing something wrong! I really need to get that reduced. I'm in Northern Ireland so don't have many options to change provider.

The girl is calling for the perfume set soon so that will be another 18 into the sealed tin. Won't be long before I have 100 in there. So I have made 31.50 so far this month. I'm going to list a few more things on eBay today to try and make the other 69.50. Fingers crossed!

    Hi everyone,

Happy weekend. I have nothing planned for this weekend at all. Great for money saving. I posted my eBay package today and the postage was less than I though so added another 75p to the sealed tin for Christmas. So far this weekend I have added 30.75 to it. Delighted with that!

I'm waiting on a delivery coming from Amazon. I got a voucher for my birthday so used it to buy new taps for the kitchen sink. I still have some money left over on the voucher but I'm going to keep that for Christmas too.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Hi Everyone,

Happy Monday... on a positive note, payday is on Wednesday! Woohoo! Can't wait to pay off more debt. This is month 4 of not getting into anymore debt done! Delighted.

I listed 3 more items on ebay last night. Only 1 selling so far with a bid of 1.20. Not a lot but it will all go towards the Christmas fund. So I am up to 32.70 / 100 so far this month. Getting there slowly but surely.

I am off work the rest of the week so I need to make sure I'm not spending too much money. Plenty of trips to the park to keep my daughter entertained!

Disaster... I have just been told that I won't be paid tomorrow. Some error in the accounts department apparently. I am gutted. They have said I will be paid on Thursday so fingers crossed. Our rates bill is due out tomorrow. I had 60 in my savings as a start of an emergency fund. But that wasn't enough. I needed 112. So I had to open my sealed tin. I have lodged the money in the bank now so I won't be overdrawn tomorrow. I really am devastated. I'm so annoyed with my work for not paying on time and I'm so annoyed at myself for being in this position.

I'll be honest, I am really struggling to see a way out of all this debt. We are really living month to month. Every time I think I'm getting somewhere something knocks me back. I am feeling so stressed out and don't know what to do.

After having a total meltdown yesterday, I have put my big girl pants on and I'm back on track today. I didn't get paid today as normal but hopefully my wages are in tomorrow. My DD for virgin comes out tomorrow and I can't have that bounce after all the hassle with virgin last month! I had a good cry to my DH last night and we talked through everything. Our plan of action is to get an emergency fund built up asap incase anything like this happens again. I am going to set up a standing order to go to my ISA account every month. That way it is hard for me to withdraw the money. I already have 300 in it. The plan is to put 50 to 100 in every month (I have to work through the budget to see what we can afford). My dad has my passbook for the ISA so that makes it difficult for me to withdraw the money.

Fingers crossed my wages are in tomorrow so I can pay off more debts. I'll update tomorrow.

Praise be... I have been paid! Payments to debts have been made:

    New balances:
    Virgin:4680
Loan: 15722.31 (paid an extra 20 to this too)
    DH virgin: 5973.20
    Sofa: 817.44
    Total: 27192.95

50 has gone to my savings and I also put the 60 back in that I had to transfer to cover the rates bill yesterday. I have 120 in savings now. I also need to withdraw 60 to put back in my Christmas fund. 20 has also gone to the oil account. This now has 100 in it. Back on track now for the rest of the month.

    Good morning,

DH payday today. He got a bit extra for working over time last month so that is going towards Christmas. We now have 200 saved for Christmas. Good start. Update on my make 100 in August challenge... I have now made: 34.90/100. I still have 1 item ending tonight on eBay. Quite a bit to go before I reach 100 So I will need to get selling!

Last night's food shop came in at 60.55. I got lots of bargains so I am well stocked up for the next 10 days or so. I got 10p off per litre of fuel by spending over 60. When I was paying, someone had left their receipt so I ended up with 2 vouchers. Happy days!
I also bought another savings stamp so I now have 26/50 towards my Christmas shop.
    Happy Friday everyone!
