Time to step up to the plate.. 12th Feb 15 at 11:24 PM
    Hi all

This is my first post with this username.. I have RL friends who use MSE and I'm embarrassed for them to know how much debt we have. I've been following several DFDs for a while and have found them so inspiring that I thought having one of my own would keep me to the straight and narrow. Not counting the mortgage, I owe a shade over 26000 but I had my LBM just before Christmas and that's already an improvement. I've done a first draft of an SOA and I'll post that in a bit. I'm lucky that I earn a good wage, and have a business too, which generates a variable amount every month, so I tend not to rely on that income.

Today's money saving has included switching my gas and electricity for both our properties, (our house and an annex) which should save 1000 a year!! I've also applied for (& been accepted!) for a 0% card. I'm going to wait until I see what the credit limit is before I decide which card to pay off. I'd like to pay the most expensive one off, which is the sensible choice, but it might be enough to clear my lowest card altogether so we'll see.

I'd appreciate some company.. But for now I'm off to bed. More tomorrow! (And it's payday! )

Sig updated. In the right direction! Small incremental improvements.

The snow has meant some rare paid overtime for me, but also has a knock on impact in that it makes work even busier. Hoping for Spring to hurry up now

I've got a date for my knee op. 18th April. Not long to wait! Cannot wait, as I've really missed exercise. This afternoon I've got a hair appointment (no more grey!) and then we're out for dinner as it's our wedding anniversary this week - 20 years!! Not sure whether to smile or cry!! Dad and DD are coming too so that'll be good.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Saturday x

Thanks both it was a lovely dinner. Our best local Italian and it's consistently good. Up early this morning but my knee is aching so not sure I'll accomplish much. Dad goes back to Portugal today, DH will take him to the airport, while I'll take DD to a party. And then a couple of hours on my own.. bliss! So the plan is to do a pile of ironing while watching Outlander win win!!

Sam!! I promise I'm trying to be good :P

I say trying... I was supposed to be ordering the church lilies, and did, but there was a mix up, and somebody else ordered them too. So now I've got an awful lot of lilies, which means the church is going to look amazing.. but I'm out of pocket. Hey ho. An expensive mistake. On the plus side I think April will be a low spend month, thank goodness.
We're off to Portugal on Wednesday for a week to see parents, already paid for, so it should be a cheap visit. Then I'm at work for a few days and then I have my op, so will be housebound for a bit. Hopefully I will catch up on boxset viewing then!

In the meantime I am not doing very much today apart from chores, same tomorrow. And then on Monday we're helping a friend move a few bits of furniture into her new place, including a wardrobe and chest of drawers from us - which in turn means a little less clutter here

    Happy Easter everyone x

A frugal week in Portugal sounds like a great plan.

Hope the Op goes ok, although I hope you will post between now and then.

Catch up time! Just back from a week in Portugal, which was lovely even though the weather was rubbish (all budgeted for). I came down with a dreadful cold while I was out there and it's taking a while to shift. I'm making a huge batch of Bol sauce this morning using the beef & pork mince from A1di to put in the freezer for next week while I'm lying on the sofa not doing much after the op.
I've got plans to catch up on crappy TV while I'm off work; so far I've got Outlander and Arrow on my watch list. Any other suggestions?! Lots of books on the kindle (free of course).
Money wise I've been paid some very rare overtime.. do I pay it off a CC, or put it towards decorating the sitting room? It's got so I don't see the bare plaster anymore think I've just answered my own question!!

Thank you Abba.. I will. Now to decide on wallpaper/paint. Can't afford new furniture so it'll have to go with the sofas we have. Might be able to stretch to new curtains though. Where to look for inspiration?! Pinterest?

So, I've had my knee op. And today is the first day I've felt up to doing financials. Sig has been duly updated. I'm pondering closing my C@p1 and MBN@ accounts as I don't have anything on them, but do have large available amounts, so are probably contributing to my improved credit score (I know it's just a number..). They also haven't given me any balance transfer offers for a while. I might ring them if I feel up to it later in the week.
Drug free so far today, and I can definitely tell. I have the medication here (only parrots and ibuprofen) but thought I'd see how bad it was No extra points for being brave though so I think I shall start them up again.

I've been reading a lot (A. LOT. Even for me) and thank goodness for free kindle books. My concentration span has been rubbish though, so haven't started watching any TV yet. Maybe tomorrow

Maybe close one and keep the other one depending on who gives you decent transfer offers xx

And just when I thought we were making progress.. DH has confessed his debt is not getting smaller. I've had to give him money to tide him over til his payday and he says that he's putting petrol on his cards as he doesn't have the money. FFS, I had thought we were both making progress. And breathe... we're going to go through his finances tomorrow and see exactly what the shortfall is, and then I'll have to work out my budget to suit. My provisional plan is to take over one of his card payments, which hopefully should mean he has enough cash to cover his monthly fuel etc, but we'll have to see what tomorrow brings. Obviously that's going to have knock on effects on my payments and EF.. sigh.

In other news, my knee is slowly getting better. I'm not taking any pain relief now and am doing the exercises the physio gave me. Strengthening my leg so that I can kick him in the proverbial...
