DVLA Medical Terrible Service Very Slow

  • Was told it is currently 8 weeks before it is even assessed, then medical info is sought if needed. It is a good idea to have already seen your GP etc and then give the DVLA a fax number and contact at your GP's for them to send their forms to. This will hopefully speed it up a bit.
  • Sorry but I also posted this in the Motoring section. I didn't realise this area existed and this may be more relevant here:

I was a driver until some health problems and then when I notified the DVLA my licence was revoked. I decided to reapply for my licence. It seems to be taking an exceptionally long time given that the revoking was a very quick process in which I was ordered by the DVLA to act immediately under the threats of a £1,000 fine!

The DVLA have had medical notes back from my medical people but sent a letter saying it will now take up to 12 weeks which seems a long time.

I am interested to know if anyone else is in this situation or if I am some kind of "special case" that is taking a long time. It seems a very lengthy process for what really seems to be quite a simple box ticking and form filling exercise.

Yes I am in the same situation. I sent form to DVLA applying for licence to reinstated in mid August. My GP finally received form in mid October and completed and sent it back straightaway. I have still heard nothing. When I contacted them last week (beginning December) they said it was with medical people and in a queue that was always dealt with in date order. They could not tell me how long it will take. It feels like discrimination. Of course you have to pay the fee up front and they cash it. They don't need us but we need them. So we are captive clients.

I can't believe it was nearly a year (22nd) that i got the letter saying i had to stop driving...wow!!!

They do take time mine was from 22 Dec 2013 to mid March 2014.
  • I voluntarily surrendered my licence due to epilepsy because i was told by consultant to stop driving until i had been fit free for a year...i reapplied for my licence 3 months before this deadline...on the day my year was up i rang the dvla and they said as long as i had surrendered my licence voluntarily and i was fit free than i could drive as there was a section in law that permits it...even though i was legally alowed to drive i didnt get my documents back for yet another 4 months...

  • what happens if you never intend on driving again, do you still have to surrender your licence to the DVLA
  • The DVLA is one of the worst government departments to deal with, each and every time I ring I am told something different from the last conversation. In the last 5 year they have made 25 million pounds from selling private number plates past along with the sale of other information.
The current CEO should be ashamed of himself for the way the DVLA is run he is stealing a living

I have a question, I had a unexplained "event" in May 2014, nothing since, reported to my GP who referred me to neurology who eventually saw me in Oct 2014, this doctor said in his opinion I had epilepsy. I have since seen my Specialist (Neurology - as I had previously had a brain injury), he wants to do an MRI to ensure that nothing else is going on and he thinks it is just my brain recovering. I am not driving since I was informed of the suspicion of epilepsy in October, my specialist suggested I just wait for further tests and not to drive but wait till the outcome before informing DVLA that I had a funny episode in May 2014.

I know when I had my head injury in May 2013, I informed them in July 2013 and in March 2014 they wrote to say I could keep my licence they never asked for it back at all.

can you be fined for having the licence even if you are not driving?

    thanks

did they write to you to tell you to surrender it after you had informed them of your being told of your illness? or did you just send it off to them?

if you surrender it (vol or enforced), do you have to pay to have it reissued when the time is right?

    thanks
