I didn’t get seen until around 9 weeks, doc said to ring after week 6 I think it was but it can be up to 10 so I wouldn’t worry. It’s quite thorough the appointment is. There’s a link further up I put on but google what is needed at first midwife app. I got booked for 12 week scan then too. She booked me in for the 16 week appointment and at the 12 week scan they booked me in for the 20 week scan.

I got told to take folic acid and vitamin d tablets as apparently we don’t get enough sun so the tablets help. That was pretty much it for what I needed to do. Then just attend the appointments. Seeing the specialist due to my thyroid/ weight day before my birthday too so will be 18 weeks then.

With my nausea I had to eat little and often. I had a box of chicken goujons in the fridge at work that I could go and nibble on mid morning/afternoon and then a box of breadsticks in my desk drawer which saved me. I was worried about how much I was eating in comparison to normal (and I didn't feel hungry so it felt unnecessary to eat) but I've had minimal weight gain. This meant I could eat a relatively normal lunch.

My nausea is horrendous, I haven't been physically sick yet but it does last all day. I have resorted to keeping ginger biscuits by the bed and having one as soon as I wake up. I can only really stomach bread rolls at the moment and I keep having them with butter, cheese or unhealthy sandwich fillers for breakfast and lunch. I suppose it is better than eating nothing. Cooking tea has become a nightmare as the smell is awful. If someone serves me something up I will eat it but I am not enjoying cooking at the moment! Living on slow cooker and one pot easy meals!

I chased up my GP today as I had nothing back from the self referral. They said I can now book in with the community midwife, but she is not free until 20th November, I will be like 11 weeks then, surely that is too late to be seen. She only works one day a week. They said they will speak to her and get back to me if she can do any other dates a bit closer. I will never get a scan date at this rate!

Well after 18 phone calls this morning finally got through to someone at the midwife office and am all booked in for my first appointment and scan.

The delay was because it had to go to the mental health midwife first because I have a history of anxiety and deperssion but she's happy for me to be seen by a normal midwife for now as I'm not on medication and am in control of my condition but they will monitor me and if I show any symptoms i'll be transfered to her which I am more than happy with

First midwife appointment is 12th Nov which is just after our 10 year anniversry of when me and OH met and scan is the 17th Dec which is the day my mum and dad met (both no longer with us)

Arr I’m reading between the two posts and writing them both together. They do the scans all the time so hopefully you get in before 13 weeks bb as you need that for the 3 tests if your having them

    Morning ladies!

I’m moving over from the TTC thread. I got two BFPs on cheap tests yesterday and it’s finally starting to sink in after seeing the words on a digital test this morning.

It’s our first pregnancy and I’m not sure how everything works so I’ll be ringing the GP today. One of the receptionists is a family friend so I’m hoping she doesn’t answer! I know she can’t say anything but it wouldn’t feel right her knowing before our family.

Before ringing you GP have a look on your local health care trusts website and see if they offer the self refferal service to the midwife team that way you bypass the GP and it's meant to be quicker

Thanks Faith, I did that but it says to contact your GP first.

I’ve tried ringing a few times but the lines are busy as usual.

I’ve spoken to them now, they said I need to go in to get the details of the midwife. Not sure why they can’t give me them over the phone but they always seem to make everything more difficult than it needs to be!

Sorry I haven’t been on lately I’m just so sick and still living on bread rolls and pasta. I’m 9+2 now I think.

My appointment is now at 10+4. She said I’ll then get me scan date through which will be within 2 weeks so I’m ok for timings. Booked a private scan on 20th too. So I am looking forward to that.

Hope everyone is ok. Great to see you over here ginger

Thanks BusyBargainz, hope you start to feel better soon.

So I still havenít managed to book Iím with the midwives. Theyíre in the office for one hour a day and I was told to call during this time, which I did several times on Thursday and Friday but no answer. The voicemail says if you leave a message theyíll get back to you the same day but they havenít. I know itís only early but Iím a control freak and want to get it sorted. Iím also desperate to find out when my scan will be. Iíll be 12 weeks on 27th December and really wanted to share the news when my family is together on Christmas Day but I donít think Iíll have had the scan by then.

I have a couple of questions for you ladies. Firstly, has anyone told family yet? I think Iíll need to tell my parents this week when Iíll only be 6 weeks. Iíve made a lot of plans with my mum this month including a weekend away and thereís no way Iíll be able to keep it from her! Plus if anything did go wrong I would want her support as OH is away working a lot.

Secondly, for those of you who may not get a scan before Christmas, how do you plan to hide that youíre not drinking?

My husbandís work party shouldnít be too difficult as itís a sit-down dinner where wine is topped up constantly. I should be able to sit with a glass in front of me and Iím sure OH will be happy to help me out with having the occasional drink from my glass.

Mine will be more of a problem. Itís more of a night out, we have a venue booked and then no doubt the party will continue afterwards. I have 3 options and I honestly canít see how Iíll get away with any of them!

    A. Go and pretend to drink
    B. Go and donít drink
    C. Make an excuse and donít go

I donít think A will work as itís a small venue with a busy bar, it will be easy for someone to notice Iím not ordering an alcoholic drink. I go out with some of my colleagues a lot and they know I usually drink wine so itís not easily replaced by a soft drink. We usually drink in rounds and someone will undoubtedly produce shots at some point during the night.

I canít decide which of B and C would arouse least suspicion. Iím rubbish at lying and weíre at work during the day so I canít really fake being ill. No-one in our office ever believes the antibiotics excuse. I donít need to go on a diet. Driving isnít an excuse as itís close to home and I never drive on a night out.

Sorry for the long post, I realise Iím massively over thinking this!

    Hi Ginger,

I'm over here too now from the TTC thread

I think we are going to try and hold off telling family until 8 weeks but think that is going to prove difficult. I tend to drink only tea and wine when I'm with my family and both are out really (made the switch to decaf tea at home). Will be easier to hide it from OH's family. Think i will be 12 weeks on New Year's Eve, Christmas is going to be difficult!

I've had the same dilemma about Xmas parties. I think with mine I'm just going to drive so that will be my excuse, I do have the option the stay over but will just say that I need to be up early the next day. Could you say you had a heavy night the night before? Not ideal but can't think of anything else! I'd like to hope that even if anyone suspects, they will be sensitive enough not to say anything. Bay may be that is wishful thinking!

I also have drinks out with 2 other groups of friends, one will be easier than the other as one of the other girls is also pregnant. The other is with ex work colleagues who all know I like the wine! May have to use the driving excuse then too.

Just want to be able to tell people, think it will be so obvious over Christmas and kind of wanted it to be a surprise for everyone!
