Apple muncher's number crunching 19th Nov 13 at 5:07 PM
Time for me to start a diary .

I work 2 days a week, dd is at school and dh was made redundant in the summer. We are living carefully, although the redundancy money is being nibbled away at of course. We are fortunate to have no debts other than the mortgage, so I would like to get rid of it! We'd also like to have a savings buffer - about 6 months' worth seems to be the rule of thumb.

    So, to the numbers:
    Mortgage 77, 051.99
Offset savings 13,768.73 (10,000 belongs to my mum and will be used to extend her lease in about 12 months' time)
    Interest therefore charged on 63,283.26
Interest pcm about 78 (shame on me, not knowing the %!)

At the moment we are only paying 100 to the mortgage, and any leftovers at then end of the month are going into the savings.

I joined the 52 week money saving thread where you put away 1 on week 1, 2 in week 2, etc. But I started the other end with 52 first and have been paying it off the capital, so that's having tiny nibbles taken out of it.

Where would I like to be in 12 months' time? Oooh, tricky! Realistically, I reckon we could maybe, hopefully, possible save 4000. I'd like to get our part of the savings up to 6000, so save 2,232. And I'd also like to knock some off the capital, so 1,768. Hmm, not v much then! Hey ho, every little helps...!

There is a vague possibility that I may have 4 days work for 2 terms. This won't double my income, as I've used up all my tax benefits already, but it's not to be sneezed at! And if dh is able to find a job, than all the better! And I'll definitely have to revise my goal! But I'll not be complaining at that!

However, if dh cannot find employment and I don't get extra work, then we will have to seriously batten down the hatches, as the mortgage has 9 years and 9 months to run.

I've joined the NOvember challenge with Ninjasavingkat, which is super helpful, useful, motivating and challenging. Love it!

Oh no to the cancelled appointment. Your review of feb was very reflective. I've decided to do 30 mins on the things I'm putting off as soon as I get up in the morning, it's worked for a week or so!

    I have a snow day.

    Stooopidly pleased about it!

Will now be able to do the first zcut cardio workout. And get to aldee as I want to buy a gazillion pain au choc and niceish biscuits for our open morn at the weekend. Not going to overbuy just in case it gets cancelled - though that is extremely doubtful for many reasons....

My sch is ooen, but I don't work on a fri, so effectively have another day off.

Yesterday's workout has wrecked my knee again. Sigh. It was a zcut cardio one, so I looked at some zcut kettlebell ones - they are static and hopefully worth a try...

I'm struggling with my back and exercising. I also want to lose a bit more weight. Im going to try to do more stretching throughout the day, like a mini yoga routine really. Hoping it'll make me more flexible for when I do my cardio and toning. Fingers crossed your knee recovers quickly and well x

I have my morning stretches that take 5-10 mins and I do them whilst the coffee is brewing. Some days, dh makes the coffee and I forget to stretch - by midday I'm wondering why I feel all scrunched up!

Off to work tomorrow - we have an open morning (until 1pm, bah!) that has to happen. Currently, I reckon I'll need to leave the house at 7.15, to aim to get there by 8.30 and run round like a blue bottomed fly to get sorted for 9. And be in a fit state to converse professionally with parents! My level of manicness depends on who else makes it in but am working on the worst-case-scenario where I have to do everything myself. So, up at 6.30. Bleurgh.

I watched a recording of 100 best walks today whilst sewing up minions and sticking eyes on them. It was a beautiful programme - not a hint of foul weather, fog, rain or wind! It was interesting to go, 'I've been there' for quite a few of them, and inspiring to try for a few more. Can't believe Snowdon only came 2nd!

Have had to log in to faceache again. Sigh. After 18 happy months out of the loop. Sigh. But both the brownies group and dance group are communicating via it, so I have to be on it. Sigh.

Eek.... can you do work on your core / leg muscles? Might help to take some of the pressure off your knee? Swimming is wonderful for knees.

Good luck with the open day!

The open morning was a lightweight one - not too many families ventured out in the grotty weather, but those that did were all lovely.

Then I met up with dd and dh and we ate in p1zza xprss. We had 40 of tosco vouchers to use up, so it was pretty cheap.

I woke in the night feeling super thirsty and my tum was not happy. I've woken up still very thirsty and my sinuses are aching. Not had that for years! I reckon that far too much doughy food yesterday is the cause - and hardly any veg at all.

Dh has gone to ch to do PA; dd has opted for a staying home day. I shall do zcut kettlebell workout #3 and eat a ton of vegtables...

RIP Sir Roger Bannister. Such an inspiration both in sport and in his professional life.

Have had the planned quiet day. Got a wash done so dd and I have clean clothes for the week. Always useful.

Did zcut #2. I have cracked the whole 'rack' the kettlebell thing . It had seemed so hard to do, so I'd avoided it. But actually it's quite simple. A whole world has opened up to me...

2 minions are finished. Slow going, I know. And some hell0 kitties still need hands, according to dd...

Got 4 veg down me at lunchtime and have a further 3 planned for tea, which should help.

No more snow days ahead now. But only 3+ weeks until the end of term!!

Had a good chat with big sis who still has drifts along the high road that have been supplemented by the snow plough to a height of 3'. Yikes! She'd best walk carefully along there tomorrow morning... We also discussed who will visit mum when, so that mum gets maximum visits from us . Though it is rather nice when we coincide and get time together too.

Today's visit to the dietitian went well. Phew. We are working on dd's tolerance to milk products, to find her personal level of tolerance.

Zcut kettlebell workout #3 felt easyish to do, and took under 10 mins. Yet now, just a few hours later, I can feel it!

7 minions and 3 hell0 kitties all finished. Have found another 3 hks to sew up. Oops. And need to do another 3 or 4 minions as I have 2 of the 3 characters but none of the 3rd. Ah well.

I have been invited to work for the exam board again this summer. Yippee . I have accepted their kind offer . The dates for different deadlines are totally different from the previous so I have put them into the Online calendar. In different colours .

ZCUT kettlebell workout #4 has left me with jelly arms and legs. Not had that in a long while. I may not be able to move much tomorrow... And it only lasted 15 mins with an 8K kettlebell.

Found some more super chunky wool in a ch shop. Plus a scarf that was knitted with really fat wool too. They only cost 1 each - bargain, esp the scarf. However, I failed to find really fat needles to knit the fat wool on - reckon I need 12 or 15mm. So I may head elsewhere tomorrow and have another look and if I still draw a blank, it'll have to be amzn...

Step are up around 16K again. Go me!

Best keep moving so I don't seize up

Hope you are not too jelly like today!

Do you have any craft market stalls near you? I find them good for picking up needles. Although most of mine came from my grandmother's old stash.

My limbs are fully functioning today, but I'm having a day off exercising.

Dh and I dropped a bag off at the Sally Army and did a trawl around the ch shops before trying out the c0sta with our re-usable mugs. Saved us 50p but the wifi was non-existant so we'll try starbux next time.

Ch shop-wise, we had a good haul. The Sally Army had 1/2 price on shoes and clothing and I used some credit, so for 49p we got some pink nike trainers for dd (she'd previously said she didn't love them enough to spend 6 on them - gotta love her!), a black dress that we can adapt for Marie Curie for dd's science dress-up day, a pair of drumsticks for me (for my fat wool knitting! No ch shop had bigger than 10mm) and some leather gloves for dh. Certainly worth every penny!

Elsewhere we got 7 books (2 are great hardbacks for presents for specific people), a cd (dh), a brand new sew-your-own doll (present), a ls pretty teeshirt for dd and a brand new clangers keyring making kit that I plan to customise. All for under 15. Bargainaceous.

A lovely mser sent me some wool and a huge bundle of bamboo needles the other year, which I love! They are much lighter to work with, which is better for my hands when they are having an off day.

Right. Off to knit with my drumsticks whilst watching Quincy. I am rockin the mse lifestyle .

Swung some pennies over to the mortgage today. Happy times. I think I'm just aiming to get into the 19s by the end of the year. It won't be paid off by my original aim(aimed for when we were both working and had an income approx 4x the current one) unless mum's house sells, so I'm not bothering to count on that.

ZCUT kettlebell #5 done this morning. Am now pooped!

It was a funny night's sleep. Woke myself (and dh) up with a dream then took ages to get back to sleep (dh was snoring within minutes!) as I was so hot and sweaty (menopause??) as well as having given myself a huge adrenaline rush with the dream. Then when I got up I felt all nauseous and dizzy. Pesky ears - I must be fighting something off.

Went out and about with dd before dance and am now watching the rugby and making glove cars. Very glad to have done the workout first thing. Best to get it over with before my brain can wake up and protest...

Wow - just had a downpour. Very glad to be inside.

Have had a lovely day. On her way home form school in the week, dd had spotted a bunch of roses that someone had thrown in the bushes (why???) and picked them up to give me. My wonderful mse daughter! She also made a little decorated box for me at brownies and found a bagful of various ribbons for me in a ch shop. I also got some leather bracelets that I chose for myself yesterday. Dh did what I told him not to, and bought me some flowers. But they are roses and pinks which I love, so he is forgiven!

The afternoon was spent on the sofa with the hunky rugby players entertaining me. Dd had asked me to make her a glove elephant, which I managed - and it even looked like an elephant. Result. I also made another glove car.

Food for tomorrow is prepped. Dd's homework is mostly done.
