Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two 21st Oct 13 at 9:17 AM
As the previous thread here had got very long, this is a new one for a continuation of the discussion.

From the original first post of the previous thread:

OK my freezer and stock cupboards are crammed full. I realise have spent a lot of money in the food in there. I want to save money by using these and only buy:
    . Milk
    . Fruit/Veg
    . Bread
    . Yoghurt
. Breakfast cereal (only have 2 unopened packets)
. Sandwich fillings (have one pack of ham in the freezer)

as these things I eat virtually every day

Until one of the following happens
. I ran out of food
. I have only fish fingers and cornflakes left.

It will be a challenge as I'm on weight watchers so I have to be extra creative to keep my points down.

Last weekends shopping didn't add anymore food to what I already have. Yesterday, purchased locally one store cupboard item which was cheaper (Cash and Carry store) than what I had considered online.

Using up freezer stored raw/cleaned "carrot glut" - Juiced the whole lot. Reserved the (clean) leftover pulp for future uses; the latter now back in the freezer.

Using up miscellaneous food items - Pasta dishes have been versatile for this.

Did not do an online food grocery order again this week so still using up what I have. Defrosted the fridge freezer yesterday and the drawers are definitely more spacious/lighter.

Another store cupboard ingredient purchased due to the current "Ramadan offers."

    Since last Thursday:-

    - The freezer stored "carrot glut" has decreased a lot. Been using up the leftover (clean) carrot pulp from juicing. Found some fresh chives locally which I dehydrated and had.

    - No "yellow-sticker" purchases recently and a growing dislike of being in shops.

Freezer space - might aim for 3 out of 4 drawers empty by end May 2018.

Plenty of "yellow-sticker" possibilities last Saturday and Sunday. Avocados just purchased on one of these days (8 for 2.20/should have been 8.76). Will be having these alongside present food ingredients that need using up. 3 out of 4 empty freezer drawers currently looks possible by the end of the month (but anything could happen by end 31st May!).

Hello! Joining in, if I may. This week we're (wife and I, no kids) completely strapped til payday.
Last night we had roast pork from the freezer, frozen spinach, and a pack of puy lentils from the back of the cupboard.

For lunches this week we're on sweetcorn and tuna sandwiches using cupboard items and marked down bread we stashed in the freezer, salads of lettuce, pepper, and cucumber from the marked-down section, and fruit/nut bars that have been languishing in the cupboard as we don't like the flavours.

Dinners for the rest of the week are more of the pork, some spaghetti using turkey mince and cupboard items, and we'll just have to buy in some broccoli and mushrooms. Hoping to spend less than 10 between now and payday on Friday. Spent 5.15 of the 10 this morning on muesli, apples, oranges, and bananas for breakfasts and snacks at work.

Grocery order today (didn't bother previous two times). However, only ordered a few fridge and store cupboard ingredients. These will combine well with what I already have in stock.

My next grocery order might be on the 31st of this month. Not sure if I will be buying anymore food (locally) until then. Presently, "still on course" to have 3 out of 4 freezer drawers empty.

In: 5.50 at Lidl, bringing my spend for this workweek to 10.65, however 49p went on shampoo and 59p on toothpaste.

Managed to stretch the turkey mince and leftover tomato sauce to cover three portions of dinner and one lunch portion, using tinned toms, peas, and black bean pasta from the cupboards/freezer.

Wife lucked out with a steak we've had in the freezer with chips for tea last night!

I just nabbed two packs of Monster Munch going free in the work kitchen - I don't normally eat them but, since they're free, and I've still not been paid...! Will surprise the wife with a bag tonight, her choice between flaming hot and pickled onion, the lucky thing...!

I seem to be all mealed out at the moment. Usually I like cooking, and thinking of ways to use stuff up, but I've lost my mojo. Reading the above is making me feel guilty and useless!!

Mind, the other day I made three portions of broccoli and cauli soup from some left over florets. I used carrot, onion and celery as a base, and added a potato for thickening purposes. It was nice.

    Must pull self together.

No food purchases since last Wednesday. Used up all of the "carrot and turnip glut" apart from that in recipes. Keeping busy decluttering indoors but today might venture out so might lead to any food "bargains".

    Hi, first time poster
I've just done first big freezer inventory for months so no big shop this week, I'm in the easy-pickings phase, and only needed to buy 5 things altogether

Out: used 3 pots of left-over for dinners (Green Thai chicken, sweet potato and spinach curry, paprika chicken (meat for OH, veggie for me ), bagels, bread and pitta breads for lunch, a bit of my huge frozen cauliflower stash and some frozen about-to-go-out-of-date milk for cauliflower cheese

In: 5 whole YL kippers, 1 YL tortilla cut into small wedges

Bought YL cheese, lettuce and potatoes, otherwise it was all from stock so total meal spend 4.85
