Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two 21st Oct 13 at 9:17 AM
As the previous thread here had got very long, this is a new one for a continuation of the discussion.

From the original first post of the previous thread:

OK my freezer and stock cupboards are crammed full. I realise have spent a lot of money in the food in there. I want to save money by using these and only buy:
    . Milk
    . Fruit/Veg
    . Bread
    . Yoghurt
. Breakfast cereal (only have 2 unopened packets)
. Sandwich fillings (have one pack of ham in the freezer)

as these things I eat virtually every day

Until one of the following happens
. I ran out of food
. I have only fish fingers and cornflakes left.

It will be a challenge as I'm on weight watchers so I have to be extra creative to keep my points down.

    Hi whmf00001,

Thanks very much for your comments; much appreciated.

Hope you enjoy your chicken meals. I've not heard of combining chicken with figs. I also combine all sorts of ingredients in/with recipes and they usually work.

    end March 2018 update :-

Current freezer drawers = 1.5 from 4 empty.
(end February 2018 = 2 drawers and one third of a drawer from 4 empty).

Food store cupboard and fridge moderately stocked.

Food grocery spends risen in March 2018 but on average, in budget all year so far.

Was very impressed with the Chicken & figs, unexpected. The fig rolls are good, made a sort of fig and oats type thing but bit dry so will have with custard - over about 3 days. Took another Gusto meal from freezer today, was a meal for 2, cooked all the meaty part together & froze in 2 portions, just got to add the fresh ingredients now.

A few things in and out over Easter. (In: Lamb leg, ice, ham stock, Out: salmon side, gammon joint, chicken thighs, tinned toms, lentils, hot cross buns)
Today's challenge is to tidy out the fridge/bread bin and see what needs used up and what needs frozen. I'm hoping the space I created can be kept going, though the large bag of ice purchased for G&Ts is taking up a load of room. I suppose it's progress that there was room to add it!

Hello all, i'd like to join it too if you don't mind. I couldn't get another thing in my freezer if I tried. Weekly home delivery was Monday.

I live alone and have to be careful what I eat. I have an autoimmune condition which food can badly effect. I tend to eat 'clean' so my freezer is jam packed with fruit and veg and some meat. My fridge is also packed with veg and meat and also dairy which I can have. My food cupboards could probably feed a small country for a month, they're absolutely packed.

I have set myself a goal of 50 a week for food shopping and that includes dog food, household stuff and toiletries. I will not be buying any cans of anything until there is a huge reduction in what I have and I will only be buying fresh what I really need.

    Yesterday 3rd March

    In - nothing
Out - lamb steak, the following a single portion of: cauli, broccoli, green beans, sprouts, sweet stem broccoli, savoy cabbage, Greek yogurt, flaxseed, chia.
Used up - raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, milk
    Thrown out - nothing
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, wisdom to know the difference.

Hi, this month, I will keep it more flexible and aim to use up freezer drawer contents. By the end of the month, to achieve 2 empty drawers from 4. (1/4/18 was 1.5 drawers empty).

Food packages went in and out of the freezer yesterday. Don't feel at this stage that 2 drawers can be emptied by the end of the month. However, still some time left to persevere.

Freezer drawers 1st - 7th April 2018 = Now slightly more than the starting space already created which was 1.5 drawers.

Nothing went in today whereas four bags were taken out. Had three of these already - noodles and mini "cheesecakes". The other partially started - Brussels sprouts from the local store New Year "clearance" of them!

I'm still using up my pre-op pre cooked meals which I made for DH whilst I was recovering - I think I made too many

If I move everything around I reckon I've a couple of empty drawers in the upright freezer. I need to make more space before June when all the fruit and veg I grow will start maturing.

Did inventory of 3 freezers yesterday (I record as I go through and then type onto spreadsheet) so now I can use up better. Had joint of beef done in SC yesterday with onion + carrots/potatoes/parsnips from freezer. Some of beefy gravy from beef joint with frozen chickpeas and kale plus some lentils and 1 small chopped potato. Should make 3 soups. Its a start.

No food purchased this weekend. Didn't want what was reduced whether it be the type of food and/or price. Not interested in food shopping until my online delivery which is over a week off.
