How to go about splitting student bills 24th Aug 13 at 1:54 PM
I'm moving into a new house (2nd year of uni) and initially we wanted to sign up for Glide, but it's about 44 a month for bills so we decided against it. Although my worry is one person not paying their bills, or arguments like "I wasn't here all month why should I pay" which wouldn't happen with Glide. Is there any way to have utilities billed individually to each tenant? There's 10 of us so I imagine not, but if we could get each person's name down as a billpayer on at least ONE of the bills that could work..

If one of the students wasn't there for the weekend would he tell the Landlord he isn't paying!?

That's not an excuse to be used.

Split it up between each person. 1 gas, 1 electric, 1 water, 1 internet and 1 tv if you have it.

I would do that but there's 10 of us in the house and about 4-5 different potential bills

You can choose to do it in pairs, but personally I wouldn't.

Just say whoever wants to do it can do and they can paid an extra 10 for doing so?

DD and I have a joint account and each housemate pays an agreed amount - 10 - per week into it. DDM's are set up on the account for each utility and the bills are in either one person's name or all.

Seems to work. I monitor the account and if somebody doesn't pay DD asks once for the money then Lets the other housemates know. Deposit refunds also go in there and there is a shareout at the end of term.
