LBM in 2003.. What have I been doing since??! 5th Jan 12 at 3:32 PM
    Hello

I have decided to start a diary. Have lurked on here since early 2009, subscribed to loads of threads, loved all the camaraderie and found it very useful for getting shot of debt, starting savings and all that kind of good stuff but then have slipped and skidded into more debt, especially as I left a FT job this spring and yet seem to be still living as if I was FT and not PT...loving feeling more human though and seeing more of the kids but financially it's not great. I need to welcome and appreciate living a much more frugal life.

HOWEVER..even writing that seems bonkers as for a household we are well off with an embarrassingly high income of about 90k gross. But clearly as the newly updated signature shows there is no hiding that we (OH, me and 2 DDs) are living beyond our means, failing to prioritise the right things and generally need to rectify all this otherwise, well no otherwise, it simply can't continue. All the savings and OP pot will go and I won't be able to rob Peter to pay Paul anymore which is what I think I have been doing.. Not sure ( which is also embarrassing ) but must have been plus then started to use the 0% credit cards again which can be a slippery slope if not used properly.

I am going away now to do some more on why I have got myself into this mess, ensure I am clear there is no going back and also what my goals are. Hoping this will help me focus and as you guys ( hope you're reading are such a supportive bunch on here I am hoping you will also help me! But even if no one reads, I think I need the discipline of sticking to a programme..I can't afford to slip again. This needs to be a new permanent way of life. Currently we try and do all the things that make us feel good about ourselves, the world, the environment, our family..but perhaps we can't do it all and need to make choices? I guess everyone must but we have just not had to as yet.

So a few things to do. Sorry for rambling first post but I needed to take the first step!! Which also reminds me must check out the 'what DFW things have you done today' thread..that used to be magic. Used to love doing that 'stock take' every day

    Onwards and upwards

    Cheers

    Brizzle

Thanks SSG, Lou, PF and Lucielle x

Yes time to wind our necks in. Stop spending as much. Went out last night for a concert, one drink each when we were there. Walked there and back so 10 total as the tickets were a birthday present.

Meals planned for the week with minimal to buy just green veg and potatoes. No protein needed. Exercise classes booked for this week too. Long days at work required again but will give me something to look forward to. Brought lunch in for first time in ages and am eating my porridge on the train with my flask of tea...so no spends there.

Need to keep this up. Onwards and upwards. Posting on here very day should help too...

Have a good week folks xx

Youre right being SE does make it harder to have a consistent budget...but I need to get better at forecasting.

To that end I need to send out my CV to someone who has asked for it, and have had to cancel a meeting to do with my voluntary work because I need to prioritise a training course. Cant do everything and need more sleep. Getting out of bed this morning was hard..

Thanks everyone. Blimey is it only Tuesday? Feels like Friday for sure..

Day 2 of Operation Spend No Money. I was disappointed that we had to put fuel in one of the vehicles in order to get it to the garage for servicing. But had to be done. Otherwise not a penny left my or OHs wallets.

Porridge and coffee again on the train. Milk in the work fridge for cups of tea. Lunch thrown together. HM bread from the bread maker for my lunch sandwich. Charging phones at work and on the train.. Have binned exercise this evening in favour of making sure DD2 does her homework.. not sure it;ll be done if I go out you see.. :/

Doing TTs most days. Worried YNAB is not synching well. We still cling on to the classic version from years ago and I wonder if its no longer supported.

Have a good day folks x

Chilly but bright. Love this. Is Spring on its way??!

Our race at the weekend was cancelled so getting 90 back - that will go straight against the cards. A NSD yesterday. Whoop! Everything packed again today except no lunch as being provided.

Homework went well and a plan for this evening. She is on board (at the moment) - lets see how it goes. DD1s Mock went OK too.

Money shuffle happening Friday. Looking forward to that.

Have a great Wednesday all - only 2 days of the traditional working week left!! Yay!!

Hail??! This weather is bonkers. Tonnes of rain on Monday evening..did you get it too jwil?

OK day. Thought I would initially collapse with exhaustion but actually I managed it fine and now on way home. Easy tea from freezer and larder of chips and salad and burger. Definite crowd pleaser!!

Will do some shuffling tomorrow and a TT. Trying to use cash as much as possible. LSD today with just a small grocery spend of items for the weekend as I went through the station. Coffee in flask and train then bus. It makes for a seriously long commute but its cheaper so thats the way it has to be at the moment so thats fine. Got the CV across too.

Planning a treat from the Treats pot this weekend...dinner out if I can find a voucher and cinema, using a MOV we have. Want to see Black Panther..finally! Will be a nice Saturday treat I hope. Also out with friends tomorrow eve, but no cost as its at their house. Win win

Savings in the S&S ISA too. Up at over 10k, want to get it to 20k before September 2019. Best crack on then And EF and Repair fund will be topped up next week....cant wait

And last but definitely not least.. YNAB seems more stable

Thanks all. Yes the ISA is a shining light in what is otherwise a grim Brizzle picture!!!

The kids dream meal too SA and have to say a deep fat fryer (10 from B&Q about 10years (more?) ago is fabulooos for chunky chips...yum )

Been cruising social media and YNAB...I know how to live!! But its free

I have spent some money today though...now getting our milk in glass bottles (BP has a lot to answer for..but as live in city where it was created and delivered had to be done ) and paid the milkman upfront. Very exciting!

Have a good Friday folks x

I have just worked out we own 72% of our house...now that is truly a great feeling. May push me onto trying to make some mortgage OPs....but we shall see as ISAs and EFs and all the other pots have their role to play too.
