Slate Hearth Homemade Oil

Hello
Our black slate hearth as expected gets lots of small scratches in it from day to day use.
The guys that made our hearth make their own slate oil and it was great stuff as they gave me some when I had the hearth made. I recently bought some online as theirs had run out and it turned out to be pretty poor.
Its very insipid and doesn’t really polish out/over the scratches – it just seems too dilute
Has anyone ever made their own as I think it is just a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and white spirit
Many thanks
