    Doorkins Magnificat

She was once just a street cat, scavenging for scraps in Borough
    Market.

But after being adopted by vergers at nearby Southwark Cathedral
10 years ago, Doorkins Magnificat has become a local celebrity —
and is set to be honoured with her own stone statue.

Since being rescued, she has gained an international following on
Twitter, and has even met the Queen.

The beloved pet sleeps on a silk cushion, placed on a regal seat
meant for the Chancellor of the Diocese during court hearings, and
there is a book about her on sale in the cathedral shop.

To ensure she is remembered for years to come, she has been
immortalised in a stone corbel. The bracket, similar to a gargoyle,
will be placed on a wall on the north side of the cathedral, in the
    next few weeks.

The Dean of Southwark, the Very Rev Andrew Nunn, said: “She’s a
great ambassador for us. She goes to church more than most
other people in this place — and we go a lot.

    Magnificat!

    Brilliant pun!

I have a repro of a mediaeval cat carving that sits above the gateway into the Close at .....eek! I've forgotten which cathedral! I've been to so many!

Let me find out....... (can't find it at the moment).

Cathedral carvings are fascinating..... I particularly like the carvings of animals, both mythical and real.
One cathedral has a carving of man with toothache!

Their looks belie their wild natures!

I've heard even the kittens are extremely feisty and will go for your throat!
