A London council!!!8217;s fight against unfit rented housing has resulted in a single landlord being forced to submit 140 applications to prove his apartments are lawful accommodation.

The extent of the continuing four-year battle between Islington council and Andrew Panayi, a multimillionaire landlord who owns 200 flats around Caledonian Road in north London, has been revealed by officials who told the Guardian that in one year they discovered 90 of his flats did not have adequate planning permission.

Islington estimates investigations and official challenges to Panayi!!!8217;s practices have cost council tax payers at least 170,000, with some cases taking up to two years to resolve. For a period of time one council planning officer was assigned no other work apart from investigating the landlord, it said.""" _to_islington_council_1_4824557

    Illegal Eviction:
Two Sheffield landlords were handed out suspended prison sentences for illegally evicting their tenant, after a judge tells them -- landlords are not above the law ---,

Mark Cashin and Rory Taylor were told by the judge that some ---landlords think they're above the law, but not --, before he sentenced the two men for the harassment and illegal eviction of their Sheffield tenants.
Mark Cashin was sentence to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, while Rory Taylor was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, for several property related offences..........

I see Harpal Singh has been up to his old tricks again. The potential threat of 50k fine isn't enough.

artful, Pixie, Cakeguts, may I just say all tenants should have LLs like you guys... And G_M, of course.
What is this life if, sweet wordsmith, we have no time to take the pith?
Every stew starts with the first onion.
I took it upon myself to investigate a trifle; it had custard, jelly, soggy sponge things...

If only landlords stuck to those British traditions of decency & fair-play: The complying with more than 100 laws & regulations may be harder, I'm sure I've slipped up somewhere some-time.

If only agents, tenants, MPs etc etc stuck to those British traditions of decency & fair-play also.

Best wishes to all decent members.
