    Unaffordable Housing - Fabels & Myths 6th Jul 06 at 12:19 AM
I thought I would post this excellent report on here from Policy Exchange. It looks at the planning system in this country, the type of housing we have and need, and how this has affected house prices and the economy:

It's a long report (42 pages), if you don't want to read it all, just read the Executive Summary (3 pages long) starting on page 9.

"Planners have created a system that has led not only to higher house prices but also a highly volatile housing market"

"only around 8 per cent of land in Britain is urban, half the figure in the Netherlands and lower than Belgium, (West) Germany and Denmark."

"We are living in crowded and dense cities, not a crowded and urbanised country"

"we now live in some of the oldest, pokiest and most expensive housing in the developed world."

"Our rigid and nationalised planning system is also delivering the wrong kind of housing."

    Some Myths debunked...
