    Hi everyone

    Just wondering if anyone has a nice recipe for garlic mushrooms - we have a restaurant near us that does gorgeous garlic mushrooms in lovely sauce and i have tried to make it but without any success.

    What always goes down well in our house is fry finely cut onions and mushrooms.....once they are soft add a few splashes of red wine, garlic(how much depnds on how garlicy you want them!) and some parsley/mixed herbs.then add cream. give it a minute then taste - add more cream/wine/garlic to taste.

    I make them by crushing the cloves of garlic and mashing them into some butter (amount depending on how many mushrooms you want to do). I then spread the garlic butter onto the top of the mushrooms (with stalks off) and bake them in the oven on a tray at about gas mark 5 for around 20 mins. It's not a sauce really but it is a nice simple recipe.

    I make them in a similar way to code-a-holic, but I cook them whole and don't use onions. Fry the mushrooms in butter add crushed garlic, black pepper and mixed herbs. A splash of white wine and double cream. It takes minutes to cook. Serve with salad and crusty bread, or if you're feeling very decadent they are lovely on toast for a special breakfast.

    Another couple of favourites:

    Mushrooms with garlic mayonaise. Add fresh garlic to mayoniase and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour. Cook the mushrooms in butter serve on a plate with a large dollop of the mayonaise and side salad.

    Cheesey garlic mushrooms. Cook whole mushrooms in a little butter and add crushed garlic. Arrange the mushrooms in an oven proof dish (I use small individual ones) cover with grated cheese and cook in the oven or flash under a hot grill until the cheese has melted.

    This is the way I love my muchrooms.

    1 box of mushrooms (Tecos's)
    Butter
    Garlic
    Ginger
    Chilli
    Salt
    cracked peppers
    Butter
    Virgin Olive oil

    I grate the garlic, 3 pieces. Then grate the ginger only a little bit and grind the a whole green chilli (small).

    Add some Virgin Olive oil with some butter in a hot pan then add garlic, ginger and, chilli. Stir for about a minute so they are browning slightly. Do not over do them or you will loose the taste.

    Add the muchrooms (sliced), salt and add quiet a bit on cracked peper in it. Give it a good stir. Keep stiring every minute until you see water being released.

    Job done!!!!!

    I love cooking mushrooms and onions with crushed garlic and balsamic vinegar in a tiny bit of olive oil!
    It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

    I do a version from one of RC old diet books. It is very simple mushrooms, vegtable stock cube, water and garlic granuales and a few mix herbs. Simply chop up and put in saucepan and simmer until cooked and you have a lovely garlicy sauce and it is also low fat.

    Ive started frying my mushrooms in butter and garlic granules......gives a much stronger garlic flavour and aroma than using fresh crushed garlic for some reason....
    I have also fried those big flat mushrooms whole in butter and garlic granules, then topping them with cheese and grilling!

    I'm not a fan of mushrooms myself, the only time I have them is in bolognese and chicken cobbler, but these recipes are great. I do garlic mushrooms for my hubby and daughter, but before it was just a case of frying them in garlic butter, not any more, thank you all for the delicious sounding recipes, (well without the mushrooms they sound delicious ) will get my daughter to take a look and choose one for tomorrow night to go with our lasagne that we've got in the freezer.

    hi, asda sell garlic granules in amongst all their other herbs and spices - cost about 80 p i think....... i tend to cook the mushrooms slowly on a low heat, so there isnt much 'runny' stuff left. if you fry them slowly, the water in them slowly leaks out but is dried up from the frying process. make sure you keep turning them so they dont overcook or burn.
