    There is no alternative, I'm afraid. That number is a call centre number for general enquiries regarding social fund, you cannot call the budgeting loans team directly unless you have the desk telephone number of the person dealing with your claim, and those numbers aren't within the public domain as they are for internal use. The budgeting loans team can however call you back if you wish to discuss your claim in depth.

    Can you use a phone box to save on the cost of the call?
