Carboot sales is another option but buyers tend to want to pay very little.

For more specialist books Amazon may be a better option. Carbootcrazy sells books on Amazon so maybe she would be willing to give some tips :)

I hate it when posts 'disappear' especially after a long time working on them:mad:. Sending hugs, shariann, and admiration that you're doing them all over again:A

I used to sell on Amazon a lot, I don't do it at all now. I found what with the fees (exorbitant in my opinion:() and the fact that they seemed to be making it more complicated to just sell like I used to I took down my inventory several weeks ago. I might try them again later in the year but there is too much competition now from sellers who are listing books for pennies. Competition is a good thing but when fees, cost of packaging materials etc are accounted for I can't see how these people do anything but make a considerable loss on each sale. I'm definitely not playing that game. The charity shops have done pretty well from me recently.

Amazon is really good for niche/specialist/out of print books and I might hang onto some of mine for later. Anything that was published recently in volume is a non-starter. The Amazon website has all the details for how to go about setting up an account and selling on their platform. I was always a personal seller, never had any experience of FBA.

Agree about car boot sales, people expect things for nothing:(. OK for decluttering and clearing a lot of popular fiction for a few pennies each though.

Got my act together in recent weeks and days to do the following:

Request water meter (to save maybe £200 a year)
Sort single person discount on council tax (saving tbc)
Change phone contract (saving £30 a month)
Cancel ridiculous newspaper subscription not cancelled since !!!8216;free!!!8217; trial (saving £26 a month)
Query payment on utility bill and request refund (maybe £7.50 a month.)

That!!!8217;s a lot over the year. Very proud of myself!

Thank you CBC. I have another £7 bank reward to add so total now £174.80

I have been helping my Mum sort through some of my brothers things this afternoon. It was mainly unopened bills :rotfl: and war gaming figures but also literally hundreds of cds and dvds. Think we may be making use of the selling sites I just posted about!

    Hi everyone!

Thanks for the information posts Sharann. I think I'll be spending some time rereading those. :)

No more money made here as yet, but realised that I've not done anything about swagbucks so far this month and I was going to try to get the extra couple pf hundred points needed for a reward so I'll be on that tonight.

I find myself sucked into the tv after I've eaten my dinner, even if it's something I'm barely watching so I need to just get to my desk and crack on...or I may (as others have said) bring my netbook downstairs and do some bits in front of the tv.

Thanks for all your input. Though I've been a slow burner, I couldn't have made the extra money without you!

There are quite a few sites now which allow you to type in the isbn number of your book or the barcode number of CDs, DVDs etc and then offer you a fixed price for the item. The amounts offered can range from a few pence to a few pounds and vary wildly from site to site so it can be worth trying all of them. However most of them have a minimum amount you can send. They usually offer free collection for large/heavy packages or carriage with parcel services like collect+ or myhermes.

All of the sites below have a smartphone app where you can scan the barcodes to save time. Some of them offer cashback through TopCashback or Quidco and some have a referral scheme. If anyone knows of any others I have missed please let me know!

NB When I refer to video games these are console games (Xbox,PlayStation etc rather than PC games

Ziffit accepts books,CDs, DVDs and games. Minimum £10 or 10 items. Cashback offered via TCB and Quidco. No referrals. Collect+. Payment by bank transfer, PayPal, cheque or voucher. Offers bonus codes regularly (extra 10% etc)

Fatbrain Accepts books only. Good for university textbooks. Minimum £15. No cashback. No referrals. Collect+ Payment by PayPal or cheque.

Zapper Accepts Books, cds DVDs and games. Minimum £10. No cashback. No referrals. Collect+ Payment by cheque

MomoxAccepts Books, cds, dvds blu-rays and games. No cashback. DHL or Hermes. Payment by bank transfer. £5 bonus for newsletter sign up.

Music Magpie Accepts CDs, DVDs books and games plus some phones, laptops, tablets etc and more recently Lego! Minimum £5. Cashback via TCB and Quidco. No referrals. Myhermes. Payment by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque or donation to charity.

DiscFlipper Cds dvds Blu-rays games. No cashback. No referrals. Minimum 25 items. Free collect or drop off(not sure which courier) Payment by cheque (can be made out to charity

webuybooks Books (obviously!) cds dvds games. £5 minimum. No cashback £5 per referral. Myhermes. Payment by bank transfer, PayPal or cheque. Offers regular bonus codes.

    and finally ....

CEX This is the only one of these sites that also has physical shops. They do buy stuff online too and uniquely they do buy some PC games. No books but they do buy CDs games DVDs old consoles, tablets, phones etc. No minimum if you sell in store and no minimum is quoted on the website that I can see. Payment in store by cash or voucher. The website webuy.com payment is by bank transfer PayPal CEX voucher or cheque. You can donate to Muscular dystrophy uk or help for heroes. Royal Mail or collect+

Phew... think that is it :j
    Thanks Shariann :)

Just to add that this time Zapper paid me by bank transfer, it was cheque only last time so this is something new :)

I also didn't know you could go via topcashback/quidco. Does that mean you have to do the whole thing in one go? I tend to save the list and build it up over a few days, but would change my method for extra cash :D

Thank you Hopeless case, I will update the post.

With regard to the cashback, the answer is I’m not sure :rotfl: Worth a try though!

Wow, some great amounts being made - well done everyone :T

Sending love and hugs to Shariann, it was lovely to read your news but oh how bittersweet for all of you.

We are away on holiday at the moment but managed to win a £1 Amazon voucher today on the "Ribena" comp (this makes a change from the bottle of Ribena vouchers that I have been passing on) - it's a daily comp here

Good Luck everyone and keep up the great money-making.
