    Most efficient is not necessarily 56mph at all it is just a benchmark that manufacturers have used for demonstrating MPG.

    Best MPG i could get was at 40mph in 4th gear. 72mpg according to the trip, but that was short a short test of a few miles on an empty dual carriageway. That was a 1.5ton 2L estate. replaced similar car with a 2.2L engine and a 300+mile trip at 70mph was showing just short of 70mpg, the traffic in the last few miles pushed it down to 67.8mpg.

    Thats impressive to someone that used to run V8 Rovers and RangeRovers where double figures was a bonus.
