So far all my usual transactions that I thought might flag as cash withdrawals haven't.

At least I only see the exact amount of my online banking, I suppose that might change come statement time.

If your underlying card supports SMS alerts (e.g. Barclaycard). Try this:

    * attempt a transaction just over your cash limit. e.g. if your cash limit is £300. Do transaction for £301 (I think even £300 is considered over your limit by barclaycard).

If its classed as a cash transaction you will receive an sms saying Barclaycard blocked the transaction as its above your cash limit.
  • This is really interesting, and quite handy. Although I wonder how the credit card companies feel about this?
  • Has anyone been charged a cash advance fee?

Anyone using a Tesco CC through Curve.

According to headforpoints.com only Tesco are charging for cash advances through Curve at present.

I have been charged a cash advance fee on a retail transaction using a credit card underlying since the changes.

So now the feature to debit a credit card is being charged as a cash advance, I won’t be using the card.

NatWest, according to one of the other threads.

I remember reading about a similar issue (to do with Natwest card used with Curve) on an MSE forum, a while ago (can't seem to find the exact post now).

Anyway, here's it is talked about elsewhere (four months ago):

Could be a small hiccup at Curve (similar to the MCC code changes hiccup reported on the reddit forum. Or could it be the same issue as has happened now? - can't be, if Curve is passing more info than a code, right?). If it's anything to do with the changes, it seems Curve has passed incorrect transaction details to the card issuer. Best placed to give Curve a holler and ask whats going on.

Just to chime in with my experiences, I've paid off my Amex card a few times via curve using an Amazon cashback card.

However not done it since September. Just tried and it declined immediately.

So looks like that particular loophole is plugged at least.
