I would love to take part in this challenge for 2018! 12K is a bit of a stretch for me, so please put me down for 6K. We are planning on buying a house, so have a decent deposit saved already, but I want to start another pot for other things in the year. I'd like to start a family, and being the larger wage earner, I'd like to have a bit of money in a pot before we do so, so that I can have some comfortable maternity leave!

I'll also not be counting my pension pot, as I like to forget about it as it's not something I can put towards anything (apart from retirement of course!).

    Time for a frugal 2018!!

  • Having had the best part of ten years where I've been a master at geography with money, trying to deal with all sorts of issues, I think that 2018 may actually be the year where I end it without being in my overdraft! I'm hoping to actually start paying myself a wage from January, six months after starting my own business. I think that combining this along with a rental income we get (barring no house emergencies) should see me reach my target. I've never considered saving to a target like this but Im really motivated to give it a go. Thanks for setting up the challenge.

hi all, gearing up for 2018, really looking forward to getting my teeth into the savings challenge again but I'm going to have an expensive January, think I will have to replace the boiler this coming month plus a couple of other household items have gone on the blink and I have nursed them over to 2018 so I could meet my savings target for 2017. So already I think it will be a big fat nil for January but that's life. :)

Related side note; one person has mentioned it, but what do you all think of saving at the start of the month vs saving at the end of it? Does saving on payday help? Or do you find yourselves withdrawing from your savings? Opinions?

Just interest from savings accounts or can p2p interest count?

I assume investment returns/losses don't count? but what about the govt bonus for LISA subscriptions?

Thought I'd check before signing up as it will dramatically affect my target and I'd need to adjust how I track my 'savings'.
It's up to you what you count :) I personally don't count investment returns/losses or dividend income, but it's up to you.

Can you put your challenge number in your sig? That would be very helpful :)
