Employment and Support Allowance

Hello, I made a joint claim for ESA in January 2017. In April 2017 the rate of ESA and the 2 groups were changed. I'm not sure what exactly has changed but I believe it's the rates from April 2017.

I have been receiving the assessment phrase rate since January 2017. This month (July) after waiting since January 2017 I was finally awarded support group ESA.

What I need to know is will my whole claim from January 2017 up until July 2018 be calculated using the rates before April 2017 because I made the claim in January 2017? And if anybody knows what these rates are? I'm confused because I made the claim in January 2017, changes were made to rates I April 2017 and now in July 2018 I have been awarded support group.

Hope I made sense !!!128556;

    The change affected the rate of payment for those in the WRAG, for claims made after the change date. You are in the Support Group so aren't affected by those changes.

    You will be awarded back pay from the 14th week of your claim.

    The amount of ESA for a couple was unchanged for April 2017 and 2018 and is £114.85.

    The amount for the Support group component was changed from £36.55 in April 2017 to £37.65 in April 2018,

    So, they work out the amount of back pay according to the amounts during the different years. Hope that makes sense.

    You will also receive the enhanced disability premium for being in the support group - will need to look this up to see if it changed - will be back!

    Enhanced disability premium for a couple was £22.85 for 2017 and £23.55 for 2018. (single rate £15.90 for 2017 and £16.40 for 2018)

    Can someone confirm that it is a couple rate that they will receive as it is a couple's claim?

    It will be the couples rate for the enhanced disability premium.
